I felt truly cheated by Cafe Panini

12 Jul 2010
I went for lunch at Cafe Panini today and had a horrible experience.

I ordered the Chilean Sea Bass Penne Pasta for 13.90, which included a drink. I was expecting to see a piece of fish on top of penne but boy was my expectations too high.

When the dish arrived, i was puzzled. Firstly, there was no fish. Secondly, I got spaggetti. I dug around the soupy sauce for anything that looked like fish meat but all i found was carrots and onions. To make things worse, the sauce looked like and tasted like bland campbells soup. So the more i ate, the more i felt like i was eating ingredient-less pasta which was not worth more than 2 dollars.

I then ask the waiter about the dish. "Where is my fish?" I asked. The waiter said " Oh, it has been blended into the sauce!"

Oh my goodness, Are you kidding me? I order a Chilean Sea Bass Penne Pasta and i get a carrot and onion spaggetti in fish blended soup? I didnt know whether to laugh or cry. I was so surprised that they dared to serve this kind of food to a raffles crowd.

He said that he would feedback to the chef. But I saw that he didnt even bother telling anyone and he certainly did not get back to me.

I then told the waiter that i was not going to pay for my food, by which point i had already stopped eating the watery mess. He finally decided to take me seriously and went to tell another staff. I did not hear back from him until I went to pay for my food.

I then feedback for the 3rd time to the cashier about my food and made sure they did not charge me for it. I asked her how they could mislead customers with the dish name and present something totally different? and she replies " but it is our most sellable dish". firstly, that is UNBELIVABLE and secondly, that is not the point! After which she still had the cheek to charge me $4.50 for my drink that was included in the set.

In conclusion, the food and service was both horrible. i'll never go back there again and i suggest everyone else does not too.

    cafe panini

The restaurant is ok for a lowish-price lunch, but I have a real problem with any restaurant that refuses to serve iced water - you need to buy their mineral water.   I make it my golden rule never to return to any place that does that.

      Sambalicious!

      10 May 2010
My friend brought me to this new cafe which was formerly known as Aromas. The menu was almost the same but had a few new items like the sambal items. I ordered the Sambal Angel hair pasta with salmon set and it was delish! :-) Absolutely loved every bit of it tho it was a little oily. They had a non spicy version which was served with shredded chicken but if u love spicy stuff then this is the dish for u. But do be warned that as the pasta is not sauteed over an open fire, it may taste a little bland to some people but the crispy sambal with the garlic bits was absolutely heavenly. :-) The set comes with an ice tea which u can change to a hot coffee or tea if u like.

My friend ordered the sambal tuna melt which was basically tuna with melted cheese and sambal. That too was very nice. It certainly does give the melt a kick. :-) This place does not serve water so u are better off ordering a drink or have non at all.

As we were there early to beat the lunch crowd, the service staff was good and we got our orders pretty quickly but as the crowd came in, we could see the service staff and kitchen staff feeling a little stressed out. Lunch break is only an hour long so I can understand if customers want their food fast but they should also see the situation. If the cafe is packed, chances are they will have to wait for their food. So moral of the story is be prepared to wait but if u can't there is always Mcdonalds

Prices are quite reasonable and they don't have GST or Service charge. Another thing is they only accept cash payment so it would help to have more cash in hand.

I also recommend this place for:

Cheap Eat/Budget, Lunch, Take Away, Business Breakfast, Business Dining, Quiet, People Watching, Breakfast
