I went to Cedele last saturday with a friend . Having heard rave reviews about the quality of their bread, my friend decided to order a sandwhich while i leaned more towards the apple cinnamon pancakes. Cedele uses the finest ingredients to provide a wholesome dining experience and as expected our food was delcious! Will definitely head there again!
That was the response from the manager, Adrian Tay, on duty at Cedele (Wheelock Place) on Saturday, 14 June, in reply to us when we were looking for a way to provide feedback to Cedele with regards to our abysmal experience at the particular outlet.
Having been a Cedele fan and member, i am appaled at the service standards at this particular outlet. I have been frequenting other Cedele outlets and the service standards & food quality have always been nothing short of outstanding, but this aberration at Wheelock was really spectacularly disappointing.
We were served food with no utensils, and when we requested for tea spoons for our hot drinks, we were questioned by the staff on why we would need tea spoons (it sounds absurd even as i write it, i know). Two of my friends have ordered vanilla lattes, but there were no vanilla inside the drinks, so we had requested for the barista to add the vanilla, and we were told off by the staff that there was actually vanilla in the drinks, "just that we did not stir enough".
After waiting for an hour or so with no staff in sight to help us despite acknowledging our requests, we have began to self serve by going up to the counter to get our tea pot refilled, and get our own utensils, etc.
So given the repeated appalling lack of service, we then requested to have the service charge waived. We were told by the manager on duty, Adrian Tay, that the POS cannot separate the service charges, and there was nothing he could do about it. To be honest, it wasn't a big sum that mattered, but we did not feel that the service (or the lackthereof) was something that should be paid for.
Instead of apologizing for the lack of service, the manager on duty took a rather aggressive-defensive stance instead, choosing to argue about what a POS can do or cannot do, and how they were too shorthanded to tend to us. When we asked where we could deliver feedback to the management, he then scowled and said that we could "go ahead and write a complaint", and that "at most, i get terminated".
I have been to so many Cedele outlets, and this is the very first time that i've experienced such low service standards. Given the bad experience, we would never recommend others to visit this outlet, as your money would be better spent elsewhere in the city where there are tons of other better service and food options.
As a frequent Cedele patron who visited a few of the numerous branches across our island - i would say that the bakery chain has consistently met and exceeded my expectations in terms of serving quality food.
Service was lacklustre at the wheelock branch - but to be fair, it seemed rather inevitable given their obvious lack of manpower. I commend Cedele's staff on taking preventive measures at this branch to reduce waiting times. The past few times i visited the wheelock branch, i was advised on their waiting time - informed to leave my hp number with them so that they would be able to text me when there were available tables.
Personally, i would definitely recommend Cedele to those who are looking for outstanding desserts at a rather affordable price. Do try their blueberry or banana pancakes served with ice-cream. (Around $10) and their cakes - their eggless choc truffle is a must try!
It's way better than many of the overhyped cafes that have been sprouting up all over SG.

From its classic Carrot cake to Middle Eastern inspired Sesame Tahini Cake, Cedele's organic cakes have always impressed with their light, delicate, exceptionally moist cake layers and this is no exception for Christmas log cakes.
Blessed with a touch of zen, the Green Tea Yule Log ($8.50++) is such a wonderful and joyous thing to eat because of its unrivalled intense flavours and superbly fluffy green tea sponge. One bite simply tells it all-- a genuine matcha cake that in on par or even better than some in Japan. The bonus lies in the smooth black sesame mousse, a much better match than red beans in my opinion. Since it is now the festive season, we decided to try the all-day Christmas set menu which features a Grilled Turkey Bacon Roulade (or any other main course) + Christmas cake (or any chilled cakes) + coffee/tea
Food is good. Soups, salads, sandwiches, risotto...everything tastes good. No complaints for quantity or quality of food. Everything we had so far at Cedele (wheelock palace) was good. But, service is just average. And, i do not like their seating arrangement. Too congested. Whenever you push your chair back to get up. You may be disturbing person seating behind you. Nways.... Food is good. Above average.
Had to queue for over 20min for a table when there were plenty of empty tables inside.
Preference is given to Caucasians when I asked for a window seat first but the waitress preferred the Caucasian couple to have the seat.
Waited another 10 min for waitress to bring the menu.
Overall service is worse than terrible.
