hidden find in old tiong bahru
May 7, 2009Hidden in the old tiong bahru estate along yong siak street is another hainanese curry rice eatery. Its a corner coffee shop with a sign board that states "authentic hainanese curry rice"
My plate of chicken chop (ermm... could be pork???) curry rice and a glass (plastic) of homemade lime juice cost $6.50. Personally I find it abit pricey for this small serving of curry rice.
The chicken chop is nicely deep fried, with crispy skin. In terms of crispiness, i would rate it between the texture of Loo's tender crisp pork chop at Tiong bahru (near new market) and the VERY CRISPY pork chop at Beo's crescent. Serving for the chicken chop is reasonable.
Serving of rice is too small for me and I had to order a top up for 50cents extra. The curry sauce came with half a potato that was not overly cooked. The sauce is not as flavorful as Loo's but is certainly much more spicer.
Best to visit this place with a couple of foodie friends to try out their other hainanese dishes which I did not have the chance to try.
For dessert they also have mini size vanilla puff, vanilla eclair and chocolate eclair. Pastry is ok, not soggy, infact pretty good for a coffe shop. Cream fillings texture is slightly wet and heavy , NOT the light fluffy cream type, which was ok for me. Taste is not overly sweet, but lacking vanilla taste , while the chocolate was ok.
Ermmm...i may be back to try the other hainanese dishes , but i would prefer to have my curry rice and pork chop from Loo's which offer a more flavorful sauce.Must Tries

Hainanese curry with good pork and chicken chop
Nov 13, 2008Cheng Delicacies is tucked in a "secluded" area in Tiong Bahru. When you reach the restaurant, you'll find that the place seems quite "laid back". The big sign board that says "Authentic Hainanese Curry Rice" sticks out prominently from one of the shophouse pillars.
You can order the a serving chicken chop curry rice at S$4.80.
My lunch buddies and I ordered a little spread to share. The following's what we had and I find them good.
1) The Hainanese pork chop that comes with a separate serving of curry so that you can eat it with or without curry. This is very crispy and the pork is tender inside ...........
2) The Hainanese curry chicken is a nicely cooked chicken in thick curry. This curry is a bit different from the one that comes with the pork chop ..........
3) Fried tofu with mince meat ..........
