The signboard looks like some indian restaurant or some sewing machine maker.
Tried the custard and bun toasts. I liked the custard bun, not cloyingly sweet. I find the kaya pretty normal though. Coffee is gao enough. Boyfriend enjoyed his half boiled eggs, slurping away from the saucer.
Limited seats and parking. Have to wait if you are keen. I do love the nostalgia though! The aunties serving us were friendly and kind too! |

| Blast from the past
Chin Mee Chin has been around since my dad was a kid. I grew up eating the wonderful kaya toasts there. The coffee is happening. Thick and strong, not like some other coffee shops. There is a limited range of swiss rolls and what not but I only take the kaya toast or the chocolate cupcakes which are the best in the world!
But these days it seems that I always cannot catch them in time for cupcakes. Either not ready or sold out :( For my housewarming I placed an order in advance (hehe, kiasu!!) for 30 cupcakes and everyone was surprised I got them from a little family run confectionery. Good stuff, must try!!!
Lovely kopi tiam chairs, old mosaic floors and the wonderful smell of kaya in the air. Mmmmm...
If you go on weekends, it is important to note that CMC is situated next to a church (Holy Family) which means that on Sundays, it is extremely crowded in regular spurts. Try to go on weekdays when the place is less crowded, the pace not so fast, when you can really enjoy your food and not feel stressed to gobble everything down |

| Eat in a 50s Coffee Shop
This little shop is located at a corner along East Coast Road.
I simply love the feel of this coffee shop. Set foot into this place and you will feel as if you have been transported back to the 50s. Everything here reeks of the 50s - the furniture, the utensils to the way they make the coffee and toast (over charcoal fire).
We visited on a rainy Saturday morning and are a little surprised to see non chinese patrons having kaya toast with half boiled eggs and sipping kopi.
We were lucky to find an empty table and promptly place our orders.
Orders are kaya buns with half boiled eggs and coffee (what else?).
It was a pleasure to see the way they work, toasting buns and heating coffee over charcoal fire. It is just so nostagic as if you have stepped into a time machine to go back to the good old days when live was much simpler.
Back to reality, our orders finally came
The much raved about kaya buns - the buns were crispy and slapped with generous serving of kaya and a thick slab of butter. However, I found the kaya to sweet. A little below my expectation.
Half boiled eggs were pretty good, cooked to near perfection, together with lots of dark soy sauce and pepper - great!
Kopi - aromatic and flavourful.
Overall, the setting and vibe of this coffee shop is excellent esp if you want to experience a little of the good old days when tv was still in black and white.
But the kaya toast was a little disappointing as I was expecting much better esp after reading so many positive review about it's popularity. |

| one of the oldest around, and still one of the best
I have been patronising this Chin mee Chin since young and in my personal opinion, they beat all your yakuns and killineys kaya-down hee...
Their line-up reads cream cones, butter and chocolate cupcakes, and custard buns These are all freshly baked which explains why they smell so breavenly and thus you really gota try it to know why they are always off the shelves in no time.
Of course not to mention my all-time fav kaya bun. Just imagine melted butter and their veri famous kaya spread evenly on freshly toasted crispy bun...Yum Yum lah
my only grouse is you cant really stick around long to enjoy your cuppa since there are always people queueing outside waiting for you to finish yours. Also, if you are there alone or in twos, probably you will need to share your tables with others due to the limited seating capacity. And they close shop fairly early, around 3+ on weekdays and 12pm on sundays if i'm not wrong...so remember to go early... |

| over-hyped coffee shop
i had heard much about this place having the best swiss rolls, kaya, coffee and the like.
so i decided to try it. looking at the long queue, i thought it might be worth it so i joined in, granbbed some swiss rolls, along with 2 other pastry things and some coffee and tea.
i was so very disappointed. everything was veyr very mediocre so i do not understand the attention and the hype. what more , it is not cheap! i suspect its just the long queues and the nostalgia it provides. |
