Sinfully delish!
Jun 30, 2007Stone-san, jux nice! I have a fried mars bar review for u! Hee~
I patronize Chippy's The British Takeaway occasionally for their great cheese sausage and i always find myself intrigued by this particular item on their menu; Deep Fried Mars Bar~
Despite my curiosity, i've never tried it coz i simply cannot imagine the taste of fried chocolate. It seemed rather quaint~
I talked myself into it and...
Perhaps u would like to take a look at it first?
Doesn't it look sinfully delish?
Deep fried mars bar accompanied with vanilla ice-cream; topped with hershey's chocolate syrup~
Warm melted chocolate oozed out as I bit into that nugget of fried goodness~ Wonderfully crispy on the outside, warm and gooey on the inside!
The vanilla ice-cream complemented the fried mars bar really well! Plz dun choose chocolate ice-cream for obvious reasons!
Definitely going back for more! ^_^
Their cheese sausage's a winner as well!Must Tries

Good food tainted by lousy service...
Jan 5, 2009Honestly, I have been quite a fan of Chippy since it's Far East Plaza days. And the service was good considering I am not a picky customer. However, recent events really changed my mind about the quality of service. Or at least the quality of it at Raffles City and Lot One shopping mall.
Months back I was craving for their mashed potatoes with sausage and went all the way to the one at Raffles City from Suntec to get one. Who knows the staff that took my order happens to be the rudest I have ever met. She has short hair, wears glasses and look very young. She has a pretty bad temper, shouting at her co-worker and the way she talks to customers is so terrible!
I remembered the lady before me was asking her for another fork or something and she gave her a nasty look followed by dumping the item at her face! Gosh I couldn't believe my eyes. When it was my turn, she simply couldn't be bothered and took my orders like she didn't care for the world.
Since I was in a ok mood, I decided shrug it off and just tell myself that it's just a bad day for her. Unfortunately, I bumped into the same girl today at Lot One's branch! Couldn't believe what another of my cravings brought me into. Initially, I was pretty glad that she was working in the kitchen as she was still have that pissed off look on her. Who knows her co-worker is equally worse!
I ordered my usual sausage and he asked if I wanted to upsize my "smashed" potato. I quote: Smashed potato. I am not trying to be mean but don't we usually say mashed potato? Maybe I have not heard of many versions. I wasn't sure if I heard the right thing so I asked him to pleas repeat. And he looked pissed off! The thing is he was mumbling away and even my friend who stood next to me can't understand what he was saying. He impatiently repeated and before I can finish "I don't need to upsize", he interuppted saying "4 dollars", took my money and unhappily returned me my change. Another of my happy cravings down the drain.....
Friends out there, please tell me I am not alone... for it really feels lousy to pay for such services...Must Tries

Nasty food
Mar 5, 2009The food in this place is gross. In fact, I really object to their using the Union Jack flag and the name 'British' in their title as they're totally ruining the image of proper British Fish and Chips - their food is nothing like British fish and chips.
The 'chips' served here are not chips, they're some kind of mashed potato, tossed in flour or something and fried - more like the French croquet potatoes than chips. The fish is in small pieces, soft and mushy and they put pepper on it all.............PEPPER!!! Who ever heard of pepper being served on British fish and chips? Salt and vinegar yes, pepper no.
Until they can use a real potato, chip it and fry it and put a decent piece of cod or haddock in beer batter and fry it perfectly, I will never darken their doors (or serving counter!) again. -
Cheesy Curry Chicken
Jan 15, 2009I'm a fan of their cheesy curry chicken blahblahblah(nt sure of full name), but only with cheese.
The short hair lady I think I met her yesterday at Far East Branch, she's kind of good. When I ask for extra cheese (of coz paying additional $1), she helped me put on the cheese layer by layer, and even check with me if I think it's enough. I'm easily contented =)
Anyway, their cheesy curry chicken is very nice with cheese on, without cheese it taste alright. However, the extra spicy isn't really that spicy at all to me..
But I still love chippy food though the price has increase few months back...I also recommend this place for

CHIP and GOOD
Mar 14, 2008This is quite greasy and sinfully bad, but if u r in the mood for fried stuff and willing to go purgatory for it....WHY NOT?
It's quite cheap, around $5 or so for a paper bag of fried battered fish...but the grease is something else...the bag is soaked with the oil, and it might be helpful to have a napkin to dab up the rest of the oil...
I ordered the beer battered fish take away...cheap and good meal but oily...the pieces quite puffy, don't know if it's meant to be bulking up the take out bag?!
For the type of price it is ok...
Girls, u get free lip gloss after your meal!I also recommend this place for

Fried Calamari == no Calamari
Jun 29, 2007Chippy at Raffles Place is more of a To-Go place. Wait is around 5 to 10 minutes, for the food to be cooked for you.
I tried the fried calamari and I thought it was bad. The fritters of the fried calamari totally took over the taste and texture of the calamari rings. In the end, I thought that I was just eating the batter with some rubbery things inside.
I can't comment on the rest of the dishes, but just don't try the calamari. If I can bear to bring myself to eat there again, I will try the fried Mars bar.
