Have you heard of chilli mee? Neither have I. Well, chilli mee is actually just 'dry' prawn mee mixed with their specially made chilli paste.

They sell chilli mee ($3), pork ribs mee and laksa but since chilli mee is their specialty, I intended to try just that. There's prawns, fish cakes, half a hard boiled egg, some tau pork and even pork ribs. And it comes with a bowl of the prawn soup.

The chilli itself is fragrant and spicy enough to set a fire in my mouth. Ok, I'm exaggerating. But funny enough, the star of this dish was not the chilli itself. It's the pork ribs. Boy the pork ribs were d*** good. I think their pork ribs noodles would taste just as fantastic if not better. SImply because the ribs were tender and soft to chew on. Beautiful.

    Verdict:

Considering that I'm not much a chilli guy, I might be biased in my review of this. But I truly think that the pork ribs itself outshone the rest of everything in the chilli mee. So, overall I still think it's good but I would order their pork ribs noodles next time to find out just how good that it might be. For the chilli fans, I'm sure this chilli mee would be right for your taste. Go try it!

This is a MUST TRY at golden mile food centre.. i will order this almost everytime i go there. The chilli is damn good, but if u take really spicy food, the normal portion of chilli will not be enuf.. so u can ask them for more chilli.

To me, the pork ribs are the BEST.. yes, the chilli is good, BUT wait till u try the ribs.. its so tender that it melts in ur mouth!!!!!

Yes, its really that good, so i will usually ask for no prawn, and the uncle will replace the prawn with more ribs.

    YUMMMMMMMM....

The title says it all. At $3, its a great meal and leaves you thinking you'll be back again.

    1. blargh it would be helpful if you could give us a description of the food at the very least.

    2. applepie Hi Blargh,

Well, it is simple, 2 fresh prawns, about 2 small pieces of deboned pork ribs (i think they have been stewed or boiled for a long time, it is very soft with taste of stew), sliced eggs and tau pok which is rare sight in prawn mee.

Soup is sweet, i think probably a dollop of rock sugar is in there.

Chilli that is used to make the noodles is spicy, nicely cooked with a hint of "hae bee" taste.

Well some think it is normal, well i think it reminds me of how my dad. That's a big part of why i loved it!

i love this noodle and i'm always going to this stall for their chilli mee!!

its actually dried prawn mee with lots of chilli, pork ribs and egg.

the chilli is not super spicy, its moderately spicy but you could always load on more chilli, i love chilli but i found this version of chilli mee great enough for my liking and to keep me coming back again and again.

the soup that comes along with this is nice too!

    Must tries: chilli mee

i saw the very high review and so this stall was on my MUST TRY list and in fact i was so excited to try..

    BUT

when after ordering, settled down and had my first bite, i was kind of disappointed.

The chilli which is a special mix was not spicy enough! Isn't it call Chili Mee meaning it should be like really hot and spicy?

And so i went to ask for more chili and oh my the chili taste nice on its own!

p/s i am not someone who is good at eating spicy food.

Overall it taste like normal noodles to me,

not those that will go WOWWW!

but do ask for an extra plate of chili!

Cold wet afternoon and what better way to have lunch than to have something fiery? :)

Had a bowl of the signature chilli noodles here, where the main star is the chilli of cos. The chilli is a special mix prepared by the owners and a dollop of it is poured onto the noodles.

Originally, (do correct me if I am wrong) chilli noodles were really literally only chilli noodles. But now, there are a variety of ingredients in it where the ingredients are primarily from the prawn noodle and laksa options available at this stall too. Whatever it is, the star is the chilli and I love it! I must ask for extra dollop of chilli next time though, kind of not enough for me (chilli fan). :)

Chilli noodles, only for ppl who can really take fiery stuff. :)

    1. contrarian Yep, the grandfather of the current owner used to sell it like that, noodles and chilli sauce. Apparently customers who want that, just like it was in the 1960s, can ask for it today.

I found the prawn noodles here rather comforting after a stressful day. Unlike many prawn noodles, this one did not leave me gasping for water. Two peeled fresh prawns with some pork ribs for only $3? A good deal I say.

It's self service here, but the owners are generally quite a happy bunch.

    Must tries: Prawn Noodles
