Came here on Saturday night around 7pm, we had 5 people in our party, and it was no problem getting a table.

The food - they had three menus. Something they need to change. The first menu was a drinks menu, the second was the regular food menu. And then the third menu was also had food on it, but it was in a glass folder, and the offerings looked a lot better and were cheaper. I ordered the pasta pescatore ($18), which was delicious. The pasta was great, but it could do with a bit more seafood.

The drinks - we were there for happy hour, so got Erdinger jugs for $27.

The staff - the French Maid outfits are super cute. Unlike a lot of restaurants here, the staff at least tried to be accommodating. Even when the others at my table were being douchebags, they were very helpful.

The other reviewers - hilarious. Does anyone really go to a restaurant to read about making costumes as Shu Yen says? Or speak Japanese - I went to a Harry Potter cafe in Tokyo and not one of the girls waved their wand and made a person turn into a cat :( And what is with these reviewers claiming it isn't authentic, and then ordering the fish and chips. Retards.

Its a novelty concept brought from Japan, and am prepared to pay a premium for the food. But this is too much.

I didn't expect much out of the 'maids' since they were all singaporeans to begin with. Average looking, very inexperienced waitresses or 'so called maids'.

Order Foie Gras. Tasted normal. Quite disappointed. Foie Gras need to be handled by skilled chef because its a expensive ingredient, equivalent to caviar. tsk tsk.

Ordered a Midori (mint) cocktail. Nothing much either. Wasn't mixed properly.

Dory fillet for me, my friend ate steak and fish and chips or something. Can't remember.

So average tasting. I got no comments at all. I cheered myself up that at least it was hawker center quality. But very normal for a cafe.

Unexciting experience. Will not patron again. Costs alot too.

I like Chjimes, just not the restaurants located there. Cosafe Maid Cafe did nothing to change my opinion of Chjimes as a tourist trap.

Most of the seating were located outdoors and unless you feel like Eau De Grease as your signature perfume, you do not want to risk the bar or sofa seats in the cafe.

The gang and I arrived bright and early at 6.30pm for dinner. We were assured that the crowd would be strong if we came too late. However, the 'strong crowd' was conspiciously missing. That was good news for us so it didn't bother us too much.

What bothered us was the wait staff.

Apparently, they only greet foreigners (of the Caucasian variety) and males effusively. I felt like chopped liver when the maid offered me an icy look instead of a polite welcome and instead of leading us to the table, she mumbled, 'Last/Glass table,' and let us wandered around like lost lambs cos we weren't sure if she said 'last table' or 'glass table'.

After sorting ourselves out (we decided to sit anywhere we liked), we surveyed the menu with mounting disappointment. There was only 1 Japanese dish - Japanese curry. It felt like an afterthought to add it in and none of us were brave enough to experiment with it.

Between the gang, we tried Fish and Chips, Seafood Pasta and Creamy Mushroom Pasta. Ordering it was a nightmare because our waitress (different from the girl who seated us) could not understand us.

My friend tried placing order for a Sprite. His exact words were, '1 Sprite please,' and she thought he wanted Spritepls and was confused because as we all know, there is not such drink. When ordering the main courses, she mistakenly thought that we wanted to combine the Seafood Pasta (tomato-based) and Creamy Mushroon Pasta (cream-based) as 1 dish. The manager had to be summoned to clear up the misunderstanding.

All this drama before any food was served, so expectedly we were all feeling rather grumpy. Personally, I had been intrigued by the idea of a maids cafe in Singapore. My experience thus far left me with a bad taste in the mouth, and the food, when it was finally served, did not blow me away. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't anything to write home about either.

Bland, just like the feel of the place. Just like the outfits and the maids.

I kind of agree with what Mr Shu Yen Kor had said.

There should be some books about cosplay just like that in Japan.

Being the first cosplay cafe in singapore, I believe the 'maids' in the Cafe are the main feature that customers wanted to see. Thus, I strongly advice the need for the girls to brush up their greetings and services skills to tip-top condition to create the "wow" factor with customers.

Customers should experience the 'cosplay' experience of being waited upon with a cloud of very helpful frilly dressed puffballs like a master. That is the concept used in Japan's cosplay cafes to differentiate themselves from other normal cafes . (No cheesy intentions of course).

When I was there, I was served by the girls just like any sullen waiteress does. (Though I can't help but screwed my face up in disgust at a bunch of army boys at the next table drooling at the moving puffballs with their saliva just inches off their spaghetti plates.)

The food served was not bad though. In fact, the Fish and Chips and their roasted chicken were good.

The ambience inside was cool and has a vintage feel. If you were to go there, PLEASE sit inside.

    : )

Must tries: Roasted Chicken and Fish and Chips

That's his expression of "huh?" when I told him if he would like to participate as a guest-of-honour in a rabbit curry dish.... ....

I thought this place would be a place with where you can find out more about Cosplay. I was expecting at least a small library of books about Cosplay, like costume making, make-up, props making, etc or some displays of costumes.

But all I get is a piano with a handful of magazines and waitresses dressed up in French maid outfits and being a little too friendly. With their projection screen showing a live EPL match and the almost all male patrons, I wonder if it should rebranded as a fetish cafe instead.

The place seriously needs to put more effort in developing its Cosplay identity.

A maid cafe is a fetish cafe, somehow the idea got lost in the transition.
