| Kampong boy had yummy french crepes...oooh la la...
Knowing that this place is gonna hurt this kampong boy pockets, KB decided to fill up on his carbo with bratwurst dog at PS, which is cheap and yummy, before having sweet crepes from creperie des art.
KB dragged his kampong buddy, lets call him Lat from kuching who happens to be here for a short visit so as to try at least 2 types of crepes, YES! Thankfully lat (well he does looks like lat what...kekeke...) is an easy going buddy who gives in to KB evil greedy eating plans most times. YES to kampong buddy power !!!
Keron-Salted Caramel Crepe ($9.90), was super duper yummy!! Both lat and KB love it! its crisp and light crepe was complimented by the strong and sweet salted caramel sauce. Simply Yummy and a perfect example of YIN and YANG! Definitely gonna to get it again, but this time ALL for KB only (err...kampong buddy power only works once?)
Suzette ($19.00), is a novelty for KB, but Lat hates it for its bitterness from the orange sauce. This crepe is soak in orange liqueur sauce (I think?), hence the crepe is soggy and soft. Just having the crepe with the sauce alone is initially bitter but the orangy sweetness comes later. Its best eaten with the pear icecream (more like a sorbet) as the cold pear sorbet take out quite abit of the bitterness. KB likes it as a novelty, but find it too "lehcheh"(troublesome)to explore the various taste of this crepe. This crepe is too chic and complicated for KB and Lat lah, give us simple pleasures like keroch. Oh almost forgot to mention that this crepe comes with "fire works", it was flamed upon serving with lights turned off. Quite a nice show for couples lah...but eewwwww...not with KB and Lat!!!!
2% apple cider at a princely sum of ($8.50/teacup), was errrr...ok loh??? KB dun understand the fuss about this drink leh??? ermmm..it was slightly tangy...and...err... Aiyo, KB will stick to water next time! Lat has no comments. Oh there's also a 5% apple cider too.
Service was fantastic!!! French manager was very friendly and informative, lovely chap. Outdoor setting is relaxing and nice, ground floor indoor is slightly more private for easy conversation, and upstairs is dim and private, great for dates.
Yes! KB will certainly be back to try the savoury crepes (KB has eyes on the vegetarian crepe) and the keroch very soon! Its certainly pricy as each meal of Savoury and Sweet Crepes would cost about 30-35bucks, but with crazy rental everywhere, I guess consumers just have to help the resturants out abit.
Hiaz...if KB was more confident back then, KB could have won the heart of his french gal classmate and now live a happy, sweet and savory everlasting life (and crepes).
NEW OPENING hours:
Lunch, Wed-Fri and Sun, Noon to 2pm
Dinner, Everyday except MONDAY from 5.30pm to 11pm. |

| Taking a quick crepe
This is my current favourite in SG. I’ve been three times in a week now and our friends keep on coming back with positive reviews after we sent them there.
The pancakes are all spot on: crispy but not too insubstantial. The galettes are great (I’ve had the ‘complete’ and the absolutely delicious ‘aiguelebette’ – cream, shallots, bacon, other good things), the dessert crepes are great (the salted caramel is really really good), the cidre doux (a Breton cider that’s only 2% ABV so you can drink as much as you like and still go on to perform brain surgery) is great. The fishery theme isn’t quite as great, admittedly. There’s also raclette, which is, er, great too.
Even the service is good. No wonder the owners look so happy… |

| Yay! There's still a Bretagne Creperie left in Singapore!
Real thrilled when I found out by chance that Creperie des Art existed. I'm a fan of crepes and have lamented the closure of two other authentic Bretagne creperie in Duxton and Thomson.
Had the following:
1. Starter: Duck Rillette (basically duck pâté, though not the usual finely minced variety, this rillette is more coarsely textured) - Enjoyed everything about it - the bread, the rillette, the butter and pickles! But funnily enough we thought the duck tasted a tad like tuna.
2. Mains: Complete du pays galette - buckwheat crepe with parma ham, emmental cheese and egg. Simply love the egg on crepe dish!
3. Seafood galette - shrimp, squid and other seafood in a cream base sauce.
The mains were served with condiments of cracked black pepper and sea salt (perchance fleur de sel de guerande? Or maybe it's just sel de gris. Looked grey enough!)
4. Two-percent alcohol apple cider
Had an enjoyable meal and because we were real early, virtually the sole customers then, we had prompt, attentive service. Jonah, the French owner/manager (?) was real friendly and was helpful with the crepe recommendations. He even generously offered a second cup of cider on the house to my companion when he saw that we had only ordered one.
The ambience could be charming or kitschy depending on how you view it. The restaurant went for a nautical theme and has fish nets cast about, probably to reflect its Bretagne roots (coastal region). Missed the dark, simple elegance of the Duxton creperie, but I guess the interiors of Creperie des Arts has its quaint, traditional charms.
We were too stuffed to order the dessert crepes, but will definitely be back to try them next. |

| casual chic creperie
French crepes are not common in Singapore and good ones are harder to find. Creperie des Art has managed to monopolise this niche market (if I'm wrong, pls share where else I'd find good French crepes) and deservingly so.
Both savory ($15-%19 approx)and sweet crepes are sold here but as I don't have a sweet tooth, we only ordered the savory smoked salmon and seafood mix (yvette). Since the crepes are very light (in line with French cuisine's quality not quantity), we ordered a starter to share as well.
The seafood platter ($19.50) had 3 slices of smoked salmon and halibut each and 2 slices of seared (very fresh) tuna with peppercorns. This came with a basket of thinly sliced toasted brown bread (which was definitly good enough to eat on its own!) and a cube of butter. Thumbs up for this dish ;) and it raised my expectations for the crepes.
Firstly, the pancakes themselves were refreshingly light and crisp at the edges. So little chewing was required I made a mental note to eat crepes instead of porridge should I ever have a root canal or wisdom teeth extraction.
Loved the smoked salmon (this was the flaky salmon which's different from the platter's) but the yvette's filling was too tough..the shrimp, squid and mussels were overcooked probably cos this was pre-mixed and left to simmer.. =/ a tad disappointing really as the menu's description had caused our gastric juices to work overtime..
One thing worth complimenting is the service. The owner/manager was exceedingly friendly and was definitely more Mediterranean warmth than French aloofness. Near the end of our meal, he gave me a mug of apple cider on the house =) heh my partner didn't get any (We werent keen on alcohol that night and had ordered Pellegrino.) The lone waitress seemed a little overwhelmed but was very attentive (guess it helped that the place was so small that there was only enough seating for 4-6 indoors) and I was pleasantly surprised when we were offered a 2nd basket of the toasted bread!
Ambience wise, this was more casual chic than fine dining and truth be told, if they had a tv placed outdoors, one might mistake this for a pub. A nice place to chill with friends al fresco or for a light post movie date dinner. |

| Good creps but could work on other offerings
We came here after a movie at The Cathay. Its a small charming little place. A good selection of sweet and savoury creps which my dining companions enjoyed. However, I went off a bit and had the steak frites since it seemed like french people owned this restaurant. This was disappointing as it was not a rather poor quality piece of meat used, and far to chewy for my liking. Presentation was not great and looked like it was prepared and slapped onto a plate. Now I know steak frites is a simple dish but this one was a bit too simple for something that cost in the mid twenties. Come for the crepes but I hope they work on the other dishes.
Service wise the non-French service staff they had were helpful. The french owner (I think he was the owner) looked more aloof. |
