we were recommended to try this place by someone so we decided to try it to see how good it was. we didn't have to wait too long to be seated. there were set menus available and ala carte menu as well. we decided to order the ala carte menu so we ordered the following dishes: stir-fried hongkong kai lan with garlic, special homemade tofu, jiang nan prawns and hotplate venison.we waited almost 20 mins and the food was still not served yet while those other tables who ordered set menus had their food served first. we asked the waiter to check on our food, it took another 5-10 mins before the food came. the place was not fully occupied and they were struggling to handle our order. the deepfried tofu was served first, it was not even piping hot or hot at all, it was simply lukewarm. then came the stir-fried hongkong kai lan, which was also served lukewarm, followed by the prawns and hotplate venison. all the dishes served were lukewarm when it should have been served piping hot. only the rice and steamed peanuts appetiser was served hot. what a disappointment. they apologised saying cos it was a saturday night and they were busier than usual. that was a poor excuse to give. given the prices of the food, i would rather go to the hawker centre nearby where it was cheaper and the food would definitely be served nice and hot instead of lukewarm. i would definitely not go back to this place again.

Though the resturant is opened for biz, no one stood outside to attend to me.

I walked in and saw two customers having some food.

Finally the waitress greets me and showed me the menu and walked away.

I looked through the menu and decided to order but nobody was in the restaurant.

The manager was busying using the laptop and i called out to somebody but no response. I decided to approach the manager and he quickly apologized.

I ordered the braised bamboo pith, canopy with home-made tofu. The dish took abt 10 mins to arrive. The portion is quite small, just enough for one pax. 4 cubes of home-made tofu, some shredded canpoy and few leaves of vegetables, it's a little expensive for a dish. Well, the dish is not salty and the broth is quite tasty. A pity that the so-called home-made tofu is simply egg tofu from supermarket.

I felt a little uneasy when the waitresses stare at me while eating. The restaurant is very quiet even during lunch hr. One of the captain tried to entertain the other customer to liven up the atmosphere. I praised her for her good service and she was so happy that kept wishing me luck. An enjoyable dining experience.

This was our 2nd visit on 18th Oct 2008 to CZZAR restaurant at Great World City with my hubby, in laws, my nephew & my niece. There are 6 of us. We went there to hv a dinner. Before this visit, we've went there during 5th Oct 2008 abt...2 weeks ago...

This time round, they are still having the 1 For 1 Promotion exclusively for DBS/POSB cardmembers too. Since there are 6 of us, we will spend minimum $50 & abv to get the 1 For 1 Fishhead or either the prawns but we chose the curry fishhead instead as my father-in-law loves to eat fishhead alot although he don't take too much of spicy food & cannt take much too. Besides that, we've ordered a dish of stir fry asparagus with scallops, carrots & mushrooms, got the free voucher for the herbal ginseng chicken from the previous visit, a plate of black pepper deer meat & a pot of chinese tea for us. This time round, we got another new voucher again but we chosen curry fishhead curry for our next visit.

During our next visit again, both of us brought my eldest sister-in-law for the curry fishhead lunch instead but we don't hv anymore voucher as they've already finished their 1 For 1 Promotion.

Must tries: Curry fishhead, herbal ginseng chicken, black pepper deer meat, stir fry asparagus w scallops, carrots & mushrooms

Wat a brillant way to make Tze Char sound sooo sophisticated....

    "Cz'Zar"

The angmoh may find it italian, french, modern fusion by the name and my friend who was just back from Aussie thought it was some "Atas" lunch place, "Where is Zze-Zar?"

But to one Ah-lian like me.... Cz'Zar is simply pronounced as "Tze Char" la!!

Yeah and it proved to be just simple tze char food with not simple prices...

Maybe can drop by for the lunch set at times... Slightly more value for money

Very ordinary food, lots of MSG, overpriced, go to a hawker centre or food court instead. The staff are friendly and helpful, service quite ok, but can't make up for the food.

    Not going back

CZ'ZAR singapore inspired cuisine been around for a few months now, never felt adventurous enough to give it a shot because was afraid to overpay for "local food". It is like $20 plate of chicken rice or $30 bowl of Prawn noodle....

Well, Should have been so adventurous really. The decor isn't too bad but little weird for so called tze char restaurant. Still the space looked expensive form the outside and not very family friendly settings considering chinese food usually is more so.

    We ordered:

    1) Har Jiong Gai (Prawn Paste Chicken) $6.80

    2) Cz'Zar Spare Rib $11.80

    3) Double Boiled Lotus Root Soup $5.80

    4) Stew Beef brisket In Claypot $14.80

    5) Broccoli stir fry $9.00

    6) Ginseng Chicken Soup (inclusive with beef stew set)

The Har Jiong Gai is basically your deep fried frozen mid-wings. Very Oily on the outside, pretty raw on the inside. Totally no prawn paste taste so I think they should loose the "Har Jiong" label.

The spare rib was a step up compared to the Chicken wings but still mediocre tze char stall standard at best.

Lotus root soup is similar to what you get in food court only in a smaller and maybe nicer bowl. For $5.80, it isn't too expensive but I rather pick mine up from the food court.

Stew Beef brisket taste pretty instant to me. It may as well be homemade but there is this weird taste that you normally get with instant sauces. No brisket just some beef cubes, neither tender nor tasty. My Dinty Moore can beef stew from Cold Storage taste slightly better.

Broccoli was treading on really thin ice....it is JUST cooked. Not like just nice but JUST edible.... It is like all thrown into this white plate, totally no presentation or anything. I have this at Crystal Jade at least they bother to arrange it a little. I guess if you like alightly raw broccoli this may be good for you or maybe just my a$$ luck. =P

Ginseng Chicken Soup - see Lotus Root Soup same comment.

The best dish, the star of CZ'ZAR is the all staple "RICE". Yup, hands down the best "dish" of the day. I mean the food is so bad I am just happy to eat plain boring white rice by itself. Actually, I am not trying to make fun of the rice but I think it is really not too bad =) Not too wet or too dry just nice (not sure if it will be consistent though.

There is a good tze char stall across the road from Great World City that we always frequent. They serve an awesome marmite pork rib and house special tofu. We paid $63 at Cz'Zar for 2 pax....would have paid 1/3 that across the road.....

Sometime you wonder why would people invest so much $$$ to open a restaurant to serve bad Tze Char food??? To call this singapore inspired cuisine is a disgrace to the very vibrant food culture of Singapore.

    22 October, 2007

22 October 2007 : The ever-ready-to-eat gang - KL, ML & I decided to head out of the sweat shop to get lunch. We did not have any clear plans or directions when we left the car park. KL decided to drive to Great World City to find an air-conditioned place to eat. We decided to try this feeding place.

There were so many dishes to choose from the menu and we took a long time to decide on the dishes for lunch.

    We ordered :

    Fish Maw Broth

    Claypot Chicken

    Claypot Brinjal

    Cz'zar Pork Chop

    Mango Pomelo with sago

    Rice

    TOTAL : $81.80

The Fish Maw Broth was nice and tasty with a dash of vinegar. The claypot chicken and brinjal were rather ordinary. They were tasty but there was nothing spectacular about them. The Cz'zar Pork chop was also ordinary. KL, ML & I were quite stuffed but we were as usual GREEDY peasants.... so we ordered ourselves the mango pomelo with sago dessert. It came with a tiny blob of mango ice cream. The dessert was alright...creamy and tasty... but the ice were stuck together in chunks.

We would probably return to this place again some day....

NOTE : A rotund uncle-pattern dude approached us with the namecard of this feeding establishment, to say hello and thank you for visiting this feeding place.. On the name card, he scribbled what we can only assume to be his name - THH and designation -HR, Ops Mgr. He wanted to know if we were from a design firm. I firmly said no. This dude then sat at the table next to us. Throughout the whole meal, he kept monitoring us... perhaps he wasn't pleased about me taking pictures of the food. I chcecked out the company website - R E & S Enteprises Pte Ltd - and this dude seems to be legit. We did not appreciate being observed throughout our meal.
