| For convenience sake..
This used to be a favourite weekend brunch place but for some reason, we had stopped going there for awhile. Giving some thought to it now, I think I know why.
Wanted to have a relaxed brunch nearby and J wanted pizza. Arrived quite early just before noon and many diners were still tucking into their breakfast of toast and scrambled eggs.
SERVICE (what service?) was greatly lacking. We were attended to only after 15 minutes of constant attempts for attention - very frustrating!
Not wanting to have a heavy meal, we ordered a margherita to share.
GOOD
******
- pizza arrived nice and hot
- crust is as good as we remember
BAD
*****
- really wet, which I think would have been fine if the ratio of tomato sauce (to cheese) was higher. It was quite literally just on the edges.
I mean, we love cheese and welcome the gooey goodness if it anytime, but the lack of tomato sauce meant the pizza on the whole just did quite taste right.
OTHER NOTES
***************
- Cutlery were full of water stains which we left alone, since we like eating our pizza with hands
- Service from the regular waiter/waitresses are passable, but not from the trainees. Questions were asked when I was in a conversation on my mobie phone, bill and receipt was given nonchalantly with no eye contact nor words.
- Never sit on the inside of the restaurant near the couch. There is no ventilation and your will feel terrible throughout your meal!
- Although it was Sunday, and there were many diners, I counted only 4 service staff in total, of which I really only see a maximum of 2 at one time.
OVERALL
*********
PIZZAs with varied toppings would generally fare better. If not for the convenience of the location and a good pizza crust, I would never have gone back there.
Time to look elsewhere.. |

| great pizza!
went there tonight for pizza with wife and a friend, the pizza we got had gorgonzola and parma ham, which was a great combination and very well done - lots of cheese and the crust was yummy! wife thought the pizza bread could've been a little drier.
we also ordered the portobello al forno, which was a super "meaty" tasting mix of mushrooms and salad greens. a good sized portion for three or four to share, much better than the usual grilled portobello mushrooms served at other joints.
the salad we got was baby spinach with parma ham and cheese fondue - this was a hit as well, though wife thinks the spinach could've a little bit more cooked. i loved this though!
i think this is my new favourite place for pizza. :) |

| Great breakfast
We'd walked past De Paulo a few times usually just a short while too late for breakfast.
Well we finally made it there for breakfast and were not disappointed. Tasty, freshly squeezed juices and a great selection for breakfast. It had been a while since I'd had the big bacon egg and sausage breakfast and this did not disappoint.
There is a nice casual, relaxed atmosphere and its really open letting in the fresh air and lots of natural light.
We'll definitely go back. |

| No longer the best
Used to be the best in Singapore but have been beaten hands down by Picotin as well as the humble Herbs n Spices on Thomson Road (believe one of their old staff is working there now). Snooty lady working there as the manager doesn't help either. Not going back here. Yet another of the da Paolo's is making the fall. Pity they couldn't keep it up... |

| In love with Florentina
20 SEPT 2008
I walked passed Da Paolo Pizza Bar a few times previously during dinner time and it was always full. Yesterday, we went by there specifically for a late night snack (around 9:30pm) and found that it was still quite busy. However, we'd get a seat inside by the window.
Once seated, we were given the menu and gosh were there alot of pizza to choose from! As we were really just snacking, we ordered a Pizza Fiorentina ($20), and a Stella Artiois ($10), and iced water.
I liked the ambience of the place. It has the potential as a place for a nice romantic dinner if you don’t mind the possibility of coinciding with families that let their kids run around. The staffs there are well-trained, well at least the waitress serving us was.
In no time, our order arrived and gosh was the pizza good (8.75/10)! The Pizza Fiorentina reminded both of us the type of gourmet ‘wood-fire’ pizza we used to order when we were in Australia. The thin crust was crispy and the salami was excellent and not too salty. More baby spinach would’ve been nice, but we ain’t complaining. The egg in the middle, and the mozzarella was done to perfection!
Though a little pricier, I know we will definitely be coming back here for more! |
