| Poor Service
Delhi Restaurant is currently under renovation and has moved down the street to 48 Race Course Rd. Having said that, the food was mediocre and was a bit expensive given the small portions of the meals.
Service was terrible as we had to wait more than 30 minutes for the bill despite having asked our waiter for the check twice. It took about 45 minutes for the food to be served after placing our orders. And of course, when the bill finally arrived, there was the requisite service charge. |

| Thousand apologies...
We had dinner here last night. Was disappointed when we saw the hoarding boards covering the entrance but the notice said business as usual at units 46 & 48.
It's our fifth time there since we're introduced to it a couple of years ago. This time we decided to order just three dishes coz we never finish them.
Delhi Butter Chicken. Mmmmm. House specialty and one you should try. Sweet marsala sauce with just the right mix of butter and spices. The chicken were cut into small bite-size pieces.
Marsala Prawn. Rich sauce with succulent prawns. Just one word to describe it. Delicious.
Mix Vegetable Kurma. Don't be mistaken by its simple mix of cauliflower, mushroom and carrots. Once you try, you will get hooked, like we did. Dig further into the dish and you will find pieces of cottage cheese cubes.
Of course the above is not complete without Naan. We had garlic and butter. They can't wait for us to dip them into the sexy dishes above and we can't wait to shove them into our mouths.
Please do give this place a shot. The deco may not be the best of all the India restaurant abundant along that road but it will be well worth it. |

Rich food for simple peasants
22 January 2008 : The ever-ready-to-eat gang of peasants – YH, PT, PY, KT, KL, AT, S, Z, JTLL, ML and I decided to have the sweatshop lunch here to spend up the money alloted(read: modest entertainment budget) for peasant entertainment. We made a reservation weeks ago. When we arrived (…and throughout our lunch), we were the only customers there.
We ordered :
Prawn Masala
Naan (plain, butter, garlic & cheese)
Butter Chicken
Potato & Cauliflower
Mutton Curry
Ginger Fish
Lime Juice
White Rice
TOTAL : $211.55 (after Citibank credit card 20% discount)
SLIDE SHOW
The meal began with poppadom, a dish of mint sauce and a dish of onions and green chilli. We hungry peasants ATTACKED the poppadom with a generous amount of mint sauce. We simply love gobbling up the poppadom and the mint sauce was really nice. Then ... we served our lime juice. This lime juice really packed a punch =o) It was sufficiently sour unlike alot of the diluted lime juices you get at other feeding places.
Our 4 types of naan (plain, butter, garlic & cheese) arrived with the mutton curry. The naan were lovely... served piping hot. The mutton was very soft and the curry was tasty. The prawn masala & butter chicken was also very tasty. These dishes were very rich and we peasants were very happy. The potato & cauliflower was nice and tasty and they went well with the naan. The only dish we were unimpressed with was the ginger fish. The fish was certainly fresh but i guess the ginger fish was just ordinary.
We were all so stuffed and happy peasants even though we clearly busted our modest entertainment budget. We reluctantly dragged our heavy structures back to the sweatshop after lunch to recover from such a rich lunch.

| 14 years of eating here and I still love it!
I've been a big Delhi restaurant fan for the past 14y.
The first time I ate here, I was working at the old KK hospital back in 1993, and my boss brought a few of us here to makan (it was within walking distance). Since then I've been eating here about once every 1-2 yr, for the past 14 y, and they've been consistent. The 10% UOB discount also helps, of course :)
The naans are always warm, fluffy, and my kids love em. The butter chicken is awesome! Though I think they've recently switched to low-fat for health reasons, and I think I can tell a slight difference... please guys, don't mess with a proven formula!
The palak paneer is good, and one of the most enjoyable ways for me to eat spinach. Aloo gobi is spicy (but not too hot), and the garlic naans are wicked! They also had another dish called Manchurian Gobi I think, where it's gobi (cauliflower) in a special mix of spices. That's quite hot, but damn good stuff! There's also a fish curry which was good but I forgot the name. There's also a chicken dish with almond sauce which was quite average though.
And of course, you must finish yr meal with the gulab jamun dessert :)
You can be sure I'll be coming back for the next 14 yrs. You can also tar-pau - they're quite fast, and accomodating. |

| Good value for big groups
11 hungry Chinese people descended upon this restaurant last evening for dinner and it turned out to be a pretty satisfactory meal.
The menu for the night included:
5 kingfisher beers
2 mango lassi
2 medium grill sizzler
1 chicken tandoori
1 fish masala
1 palek paneer
1 mattar paneer
1 aloo gobi
1 chicken tikka masala
2 garlic naan
2 plain naan
3 kashmini naan
1 plain briyani
Amazingly, we were all pretty full, and didnt have to top up with additional orders. But then again, there were only 4 guys. :)
The total bill came up to S$169, which amounts to $15 approx each. (this was after 15% discount with UOB).
The food was definitely above average, and serving size was decent. It probably also had to do with the fact that Indian food can get very jelat and rich, so cant eat too much.
(the waiter did try to get us to order 2 servings of each, thank goodness we didnt!)
I particularly liked the aloo gobi and the palek paneer. The cauliflower was done just right, crunchy, but not too raw. The meat dishes were pretty good too. But somehow, I still prefer the masala chicken from Samy's curry. :-D
So, the next time you are in the area, and feel like having Northern Indian, check this place out. Its not too bad at all. |
