| The Healthier Choice!
I was sending my brother-in-law off to Shanghai and the small entourage of relatives who were present at the airport had not had their lunch. So off we went in search of food.
Can't say I paid much attention to the food as I was more engrossed with the conversation while trying to get my little girl to settle down. Also normally when parents are around, I'd leave the ordering to them. So no frills lunch!
It was about 2pm so the crowd was just about thinning out. The decor was pretty interesting - thick traditional bamboo poles with old chinese tables and chairs. Even the staff were dressed in that certain period chinese dressing. Good branding, I'd say.
For food, I was so grateful that the restaurant has on offer a healthier choice lunch package.
We had roasted duck with ten wonder herbs (Never knew it was so much more healthier to consume duck than chicken!), old styled steamed fish slices, fish maw with seafood, and chinese spinach. Loved the food and the way they seemed to have taken great care in preparing the food. Taste-wise, so-so, but since its healthier and I still get to savour my duck, I'm a happy man.

| Terrific experience at Dian Xiao Er
went to eat at this particular restaurant and ordered a set meal for 4. The waitress are all so very friendly, efficient, and helpful. The manager also possesses the same skills as the waitresses. Food was served very efficiently, gave us warning that food was hot so we had to be careful. Literally serving us to the plate, even though the place was already packed to the brim, but they managed the crowd very well. Waiting time was so negligible that you won't feel the slightest "tired of waiting" feeling.
Food was stunning. Great value for price. Even after he meal the waitresses and manager would still come over to us and ask if the food is to our liking, Do we want any top up of water etc or any other orders.
Great management skills of the crowd and kept everyone happy. I definitely would come back for the great experience. |

| Great duck
The Terminal 3 branch of Diang Xiao Er opened 1 year ago and its location reinforces the "pit-stop for travellers" philosophy of this restaurant. It is rustically and traditionally decorated and subdivided into two areas with different deco. Their speciality is roasted duck. Their ducks are "Cherry Valley ducks" naturally bred off the lakeside, and they are marinated and roasted daily.
We ordered a 10 wonder herbs roasted duck. Their duck is truly unique for its flavour and texture. The meat is well marinated and flavoursome, non-fat and yet tender and juicy, served in abundant herbal sauce. The skin is paper thin and crispy, so you can have it without ingesting layers of fat. The portion we ordered is advertised for 2-4 people. However, in my opinion this is only enough for one person even if you have it with rice. This duck is so lean and tasty that you will feel like eating more of it than you would normally. The 'superior rice' served with the duck is quite fragrant and above par with other restaurants of this price range.
I highly recommend trying this restaurant if you like duck. They prepare it consistently well and you won't be disappointed.

| Duck, Soup, Veg
This is a first visit to this chain of restaurant and only after running out of establishment to go to in T3 (sick of C-jade). The decor is made to look like an old Chinese inn from those kungfu movies. Good effort but not up my alley in terms of ambience...bring me back to the modern age please...
Duck is signature here so have to at least order a duck dish. Picked the herbal duck and lets just say the dish is out really fast...From the looks of it, it is a standard roast duck drenched with the herbal sauce which on first sip made me think of "cha ye dan" (eggs boiled in tea leaves).... not sure it is a good or bad thing though i admit I do like cha ye dan....maybe not cha ye duck...otherwise the duck is NORMAL - as good or bad as an average random hawker center roast duck.
The soup is alright but will pick soup restaurant any day if I want to have a decent soup. Veg which i had broccoli and mushrooms is decent as well. I have to say thinking about it this is pretty similar in concept to soup restaurant with a signature BIRD dish and assorted chinese fare....
Overall ok...but didn't make too much of an impression. Service is prompt and efficient considering that there was 8 staff on the floor and only 3 tables they better be.... |

| Food Wise Alright... :)
Well, went there to ate once at Dian Xiao Er on a Sunday night and the queue is there. But generally, I would say the standard of the food there ain't that great as compared to other outlet such as Marina Square.
But something to comment is that the serving of food is pretty fast and good services.
Had the set dinner for two. The spanish ain't that tasty but I like to drink the soup. Nice and tasty!
A dish that must try will be the duck! Nice!!! |
