Ye Olde Pie Shoppe

This is a place that sells chicken pies. Not especially good ones; merely adequate pies.

For example, my pie had rather insubstantial pastry, not much taste and remarkably little chicken for a "chicken pie". Perhaps it should have been called an "amorphous mash pie".

Must Tries: Pies, maybe?

Black Pepper Chicken Pie at Don's

The first time I ate Don's pie was at a canteen in one of a well known IT company. Many people working in the company will order the pies for take-aways. It really taste nice. That was the humble beginnings of Don Pie. After that Don Lim, started his shop at Far East Square with no sitting space and only do takeaways and catering. Business was brisk and he had since opened a sit down cafe that serves his popular pies right opposite his previous Far East Square shop. He got another shop space at Suntec City Mall that sells his pies. Some people slammed on Don's choice of name for his small pie empire "Don, your personal pie club". But I don't really care. His pie is good. I like it.

The most popular pie is the chicken pie. The pie has generous chunks of chicken and have 6 full hard boiled eggs so that you can split it equally among 6 people. A whole chicken pie is S$18.00 and a quarter serving will cost S$4.60

The black pepper chicken pie is also quite nice. I like the extra peppery taste of this pie.

The last time I went there I had
1) Black pepper chicken pie
2) 1/4 chicken pie
3) a latte
4) and a soft drink

Don Pie moved across the road with crab bee hoon.

What started as a small outlet for pies has now grown into a cafe that not only serves pies but get it.... crab bee hoon!! Wah !! How do pies jive with crab bee hoon? Is this some mish mash of fusion foods?

Food: Luckily the pies still taste good and meaty too. Most famous are their pepper pies - not cheap though. What I enjoyed was their avocado drink - creamy and full of avocado.

Ambience: Clean, bright and airy.

Value: Not so good now, prices gone up.

Service: Pleasant youngsters.

Must Tries: Peper based pies

Hmm...

Tried the claypot crab beehoon soup.

Crab was a little over cooked... soup based a little bland... perhaps cos all the smell killed by the generous amt of fried ginger...

wud prefer a more 'seafood' taste in the soup...

vege a little mismatch... putting in chinese white cabbage perhaps will make the soup base much sweeter...

Crabs n Pies???

Hahaha yes... this is a weird place that not only sells delicious pies... it also offers claypot crab bee hoon!! weird?? not til u hear their latest dish on sale... claypot black pepper crab bee hoon!

First up r e pies... delicious pies that my parents love... agreed tat e black pepper pies r better than e original ones n i do love e sheperd's pie alot! (but to b fair... i lurve sheperd's pie anywhere!) e prices r reasonable.. a quarter costs abt $4-$5 while e whole pie costs abt $16 onwards or so... lovely for parties or little gatherings or juz being greedy (ha!)

Next up r e crabs... yes yes super weird to sell crab dishes in a pie shop... wat's e connection??? anyway there r 2 types of crab dishes on offer now.. e claypot crab bee hoon with e milky soup base n e claypot dry black pepper crab bee hoon... both $16 (used to b like $12.80).. i lurve e crab bee hoon soup.. i tot e soup tasted yummy n e crab meat is so fresh n yummy... it's quite a big portion for one but too small a portion for two so i still suggest one claypot each! but it's no easy task to chomp down e dish during e short lunch hour so do go for dinner instead.. e black pepper crab bee hoon on e other hand u can give it a miss... u can sense that they had not perfected e taste yet n so it's kinda too sweet with too much of e veg taste (duno wat veg izzit).. n hence u get sick of e dish pretty quickly..

Overall not a bad place for some pies n crabs in e CBD area...
