| The lasagne rocks!
I only tried their food once so far. I had the lasagne and it was great! I have been to Italy before and must say that it really tastes authentic! |

| Authentic Italian - GREAT
Great place with Italian owners. Authentic Italian atmosphere - vibrant and cosy. Great wines and excellent food.
Went there on Christmas Eve with my loved one. She's from Latin America and I'm from Europe and we both had a great time and will definately come back more than once.
We had Sword Fish Carpaccio (Carpaccio di Pesce Spada, 15$) and a Cheese&Ham plate (Misto Fromaggi Affettato, 20$) together with a rucula salad (Insalata Meravieglia, 15$) as starters. All three were great. The Corvina red wine (49$) was just excellent, full body, dry, smooth and easy to drink. The main dishes (Canneloni Ricotta Spinacio, 17$, Cappelletti? Zucca Agli Aromi, 16$) had a very fine taste. The desert (Panna Cotta, 8$, Perfetto Ice Frutti di Bosco) were good but just a little too sweet.
We arrived a little earlier and so had the chance to talk to Simone (who's from Sicily), when it was still not as crowded. Great company and he took his time to select the right wine with me.

| Wonderful experience at Donna Carmela
This is one of the places to visit if you like pasta, pizza and red wine. Place was about 80% full when I was there with my girlfriend on Tuesday evening. Nice setup and ambience for a quiet night with your loved one. Nice smooth music played in the background. *We have tea candle on our table, but I was not lit up. We can do without it*
We enjoyed excellent service from the waiting staffs. Plain water was offered while we were deciding what to eat. We were completely lost when read through the menu; we were simply spoilt for choice as there were pages of pasta, lasagne and pizza to choose from. Wide range of drink available, including red wine. For the price that we paid, we had a starter, a lasagne, a pizza, 1 glass of wine and 1 ginger ale. Definitely worth second visit. |

| Great little find - great value
We stumbled upon this little gem as we were exploring the Greenwood avenue. Initially drawn in by the bright lights and warm atmosphere, a second look brought to our attention an extensive and unique menu - full of old favourites like carbonara, lasagne and new things I've not seen like special filled pastas. WE thought it was only Italian but turns out it's also a Brazilian though we've only tried the Italian food it's superb and excellent value. Great pastas, pizzas and fabulous wines ranging from $25 - we always ended up bringing some home!
The service is great from the main staff Mauro, Simone and Tomasco, chat to them indeed, they are warm characters. Also glad to see they now serve tap water - didn't when we first went there.
Definately great food, great value - half of me doesn't want to let the cat out of the bag too soon as want to keep this place to myself, but at a place like this it's not going to stay that way for long! Eat, enjoy! |

| Brazilian churrasco
Donna Carmela is named after the wife of the owner, Mauro, just like his former restaurants were named after his mother, Mamma Lucia. Glad to see that he's back in the Singapore restaurant business after a stint back in Italy, and even happier to see that he replicated his Brazilian and Italian formula! Donna Carmela refers to the Italian food, and Caipirinha to the Brazilian.
His sister Carmen helps out here, as does Simone from ML days, and another friend Max who happens to own one of the few Gilera Fuocos in Singapore. This interesting scooter was parked right outside and is the only red one here for now. Our Italian friends here love it when you ride your Italian bike to their restaurant!
Mauro wants his diners to enjoy wine with every meal, and makes it highly affordable for you to do so. House wine goes for $5+ a glass or $25+ a bottle. He offered a bottle of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Poggio Ai Santi Le Guardie 2006 – a lovely, easy drinking wine that I'm familiar with, at $29+. An unbeatable price I say!
Although opened only this month, Mauro told me that they've already hosted a few full houses - good for him! A friendly couple dining there told me they ate there several times a week and recommended the lasagna, as well as the wine they were having, a Rovertondo Valpolicella Superiore Ripasso. I took away a bottle and found this an easy drinking wine that doesn't overwhelm your palate (unlike Cabernet Sauvignon) once you let it breathe for about half an hour.
This visit, I had my favourite churrasco with about 17 cuts for $37+. Help yourself to the salad bar and then friendly and efficient passadors will serve you all you can eat chicken leg, pork loin, pork rib, ham, pork sausage, beef hump, beef topside, lamb, banana, pineapple... the works. All cut off skewers at your table.
I don't believe in cutting corners on ingredients; neither does Mauro. That's why I'll come again - Brazilian meat is used here and you should be able to taste the difference between this and Australian or other meats used at some other churrascarias (and I've been to virtually all in Singapore plus at least 5 elsewhere). The standout this visit was the pineapple. Thumbs up!
The Brazilian and Italian kitchens are kept separate deliberately. Mauro and company are good hosts - take the time to speak to them if customer flow allows. I will certainly be back to visit my Italian friends and try their Italian food, and be back for more churrasco too. Red meat with red wine, at great value prices, what could be better?
Note: at lunch, only Italian food is served (I'll review that later) |
