| A happy girl and a happy boy
I must say I am highly impressed by the meal that I just had 3 hours ago!
Ordered a fair bit for 2; ayam buah keluak, babi pomteng, omelette with chinchalok, assam fishhead, otak, salted veggie w duck soup, sambal udang with petai, sambal potato leaf. Total damage is $79 but considered the many dishes and satisfactory level, its very worthy!
Sang praises for all the dishes.
Left the place a happy girl and a happy boy!
Need I say more??
:))))
Try it! |

| Peranakan at its best
As a lover of peranakan culture, being peranakan myself, I was taken aback by the food that I was served with at this small obscure diner.
On my first visit, the crowd was rather daunting, however, we braved the wait and chaos to get a table.
The menu was satisfactory, but the food served was beyond words.
brought tears - literally- to my eyes, as i stuffed myself so much i wanted to cry.
after complimenting the chef, found out it was a family owned business and has been there for at least 10 years now, and been on makansutra as well as many magazines.
Apart from their standard menu, they serve special dishes like nonya chilli crab, popiah and kueh pie tee, - All requiring advanced orders.
We tried the chilli crab on our second visit. Fantastic. and not expensive. About $40 for 2 large crabs.
I am sick and tired of half-past-six restaurnats claiming to serve peranakan food. If you want to know how peranakan food should taste like, you should visit Dulu.
The price was average as portions are rather small. We ended up ordering 2 portions of most of the food. However, we still only spent about $75 for 4 of us to feel like we will throw up there and then. |

| A gem!
This has been my favourite Peranakan restaurant.
It looks very run-down, with totally no-frills deco, but that is the beauty of it because it gives you maximum value for your bucks!
Try their Ayam Keluak, Sotong Hitam, Beef Rendang, Assam Fish. All were very authentic, very flavourful and tasty. And very unpretentious, that's the best part of it. Healthy too - don't think they use much MSG as I never felt thirsty after having their food.
Juz be patient though - waiting time is long - as they are normally short-handed. It's a family-run business. |

| yum yum yum!
The first time, I came to this restaurant it was this small badly renovated shop.
Now moving a few shops left. its bigger. not really fantastic, but brighter and nicer..
Reviews here all very friendly..I just want to add my piece..being a 7 year customer, i sort of have to..
Food=good especially the seafood.
being such a regular, i let u guys in on a secret. There is a section in the menu that says special orders..i they are really good!
the nanas prawns..omg!...
for my mother's birthday, i ordered the chilli crab..again OMG
but of course, you have to really order in advance..
The funny thing is the food prices do not go very high for food that is expected to be very expensive. Fish head is only $20, even cheaper than hawker centre. and prawns are teh BIg ones. only costing about $8 a plate.
The pre-cooked food is not so cheap, but still reasonable, about $6 for rendang.
if going on an impromptu visit, try the chilli garam prawns or Udang assam goreng, ngoh hiang, keluak, assam fish(of coz)
I try not to visit weekends coz it gets crazy!
But i highly recommand trying at least once, at least to get the flavour of REAL peranakan food. |

| 3rd date ..and family
Love the food.
Very authentic, just how I had it at home.
Food to try:
Assam Fishhead- sweet, spicy, sour.. the works..
sotong hitam- sotong fried in black ink..just dun think about the colour, just eat it!
Ayam Keluak- very tasty, as usual with peranakan food, very rich, sour, spicy.
oooo
ngoh hiang- wrapped by hand..tastes amazing.
But of coz..if you go there for food, just be aware tat you will be only going there for food.
rather homely decorations, an improvement from the previous place, where it first started (2 doors down), but still not a ambiance place.
not a first date place, if you wanna impress..but definately a place you bring on the 3rd or more..
Anyway, runned by a family..not very reliable on the timing.
Went there once without calling and found that they were closed..for urgent holiday! i later found out..but yah, you really have to call!...
During the weekend, I even call to order, as they can be quite shorthanded. I have waited for 45mins, for food before..
Anyway.. for true peranakan food lovers..have to try |
