| Value for money
Its our first time to Edogawa after reading the review. The price was average as we tend to expect the prices to be quite expensive.
We order the Beef Teppanyaki Set, Salmon Teppanyaki Set and Chicken croquette . The set includes chawanmushi, salad, miso soup, sushi, pickles, spicy long bean, fried vegetables and rice. We are really surprising that they got so much food in a set meal. We managed to finish all as we don't want to waste it. I liked their salad although its a bit sour. Quite appetizing.
The Beef teppanyaki is nice and it is tender. Other places tend to make it dry and chewy. For the salmon, I find it a bit dry. Overall it is not too bad. The dessert is free for all and we have a choice of pudding, coffee and ice cream.
The waitress who made my reservation seem to know that I am the one who call. She is warm with service but the other waitress seem to have attitude problem. Others find the service is good but we doubt so.
We find this particular waitress quite rude to customer. When we had enquires to ask her, her face like we owe her something. If she can't understand us in ENGLISH, can't she ask politely in CHINESE! Really bad attitude towards customer. Can't let your own mood affect the work. |

| Jap Again
Wanted to go Blue Basil(lucky i didnt go) or Seasons Reasons at Raffles yesterday nite but since this was nearest to Goldhill and U.D.D.E.R.S me n fren decided to have dinner here.
The ala carte options are abit on the high side but sets are affordable. I got the salmon set and he got the tonkatsu set.
Both came with salad, this tofu and green bean thingy, rice, miso soup, chawanmushi. usually i would swipe his salad but he liked it so he polished it off. so did i. the tofu and green bean thingy was good too. liked the sauce. Chawanmushi was ok. They should add cheese to it ;)
Salmon was a bit too grilled though. was abit on the hard n flaky side and abit salty but still ok. eatable. And miso soup was good.
Service was great. The manager who i called to make reservations with actually knew it was me(m i the only malay gal who likes to go jap places). Waitresses were keen to serve and seem to either be Japanese or Chinese. Not really fluent in english but they really do try. And one was so cute. Another waitress served me n my fren each others drinks and another actually came to correct it..it happens at most places and its nice that the waitress who took our orders actually made an effort to correct it.
Love the decor too. really like those village jap homes.
Will definitely be back soon.

| Hmmm...
I have eaten here twice, partly due to the 20% that they are offering for the new branch. The setting is a typical darken wooden setting with large table sizes that ensure a lot of space in between customers. There are also private booths which give a lot of privacy which makes this a good setting for business lunches.
In my first try, I was looking for a quick lunch and got the sushi set. This comprised of a huge portion two pieces of salmon (sake),two pieces of tuna (maguro) and one piece of swordfish sushi. Add this to a six piece tuna maki and that rounds up the raw fish portion. The fish, unfortunately, was not much to shout about. With the set included two pieces of prawn tempura. The prawn as well was only average and was a little soggy. The one saving grace of the meal though was the potato salad, which when serve chill was good in opening up one's appetite. An average meal all in all.
However, despite my initial experience I decided to come back again, mostly on a prodding of a friend that wanted to try out the restaurant. This time, I decided to go a-la-carte and ordered a few items to try. I started out with the spicy cod roe which I found to be too salty, thus even the two of us were unable to consume the dish. After eating about one quarter of the fish roe, I felt that it was already too much for me. This would probably have been a better option if I came in a group of four.
For my second appetiser I tried the oyster. On the menu the picture showed a raw oyster, so that was what I was expecting. Lo and behold, the oysters came out baked. However, after the initial shocker, I must say that I really enjoyed the oysters and that I would order this again the next time I dine at Edogawa.
For my main course I had the Katsu Curry with rice. This was a disappointment as the curry was of a powder form and lacked in substance.
Having said the above, the only thing that will probably get me back is their simple and quick lunch options. I saw a udon that goes for less than ten dollars. If I were to return that would probably be my next choice. |

| Value for money and good service
Edogawa is definitely value for money with warm service. Had lunch there yesterday and both the exterior and interior were nicely furnished so I was expecting prices to be rathe expensive too.
Set lunches were reasonably priced from below $10 to about $22. I had the Katsu Don set which was a generous serving of rice and pork cutlet, sides of salads, pork stew, soup and pickles. The set also comes with complimentary dessert and you can choose from coffee, macha ice cream or strawberry or mango pudding.
I wouldn't say the food was excellent but it was palatable enough for the price and a comfortable environment.
Also, the staff were mainly chinese speaking and could converse in simple english BUT orders are written down in JAPANESE!! *Impressed*
Regardless of language, service was prompt, warm and friendly. My friend who sent her teriyaki chicken back as it was slightly under cooked had a whole new freshly cooked serving back.

20% discount till end-June 2008
9 June 2008 : I came here to have dinner with TH. It has been years since I last met TH... I chose this place mainly because it was new and because both TH & I like japanese food.
We ordered :
Nami Set - Lamb, Vegetable, Sushi, Salad, Hot Side Dish, Oshinko, Rice, Miso Soup, Dessert. $22.80
Grilled Eel & Sashimi Set - Replaced Eel with pork cutlet $22.80
TOTAL = $42.90 (with 20% discount)
SLIDE SHOW
TH & I really enjoyed our food. I managed to finish all my food.
The lamb was a little salty but it was lovely. The stir-fried vegetables were salty too. The sushi was kind of strange because it was tuna on top with something that tasted like bananas stuffed inside the rice.
I really do not like chawanmushi. However, since it was part of the set, I gobbled it up because I did not want to waste food.
The potato salad was nice. I poured the miso soup on top of my white rice to make the rice moist. The salad was lovely... just the way i like my salad to taste.
We had a choice of ice cream, coffee or jelly for dessert. I chose ice cream. Even though I was really stuffed with food, I managed to gobble up my ice cream too. =o)
TH & I heaved our heavy structures out of this feeding place and paid the bill... feeling very satisfied to enjoy the 20% discount.
I decided to walk back to the old shack to work through the food that i have managed to stuff into my peasant system. |
