The entrance is really cool with the ice bar and all but once you go past that it is just another bar. Which is sad to say that the inside of the bar is not made of ice and the drinks glasses are not made from ice either (like those I've seen on television). Nice attempt though.

For deprived individuals like myself who does not have the oppurtunity to experience winter overseas, this is a perfect place.

The freezing temperature being the main novelty here lives up to its name. The 'cold room' (nearest to the entrance) is a whooping -4 degrees celcius. It doesn't help that I came from a wedding dinner and dressed to the nines in a bare back dress! Luckily, I brought my pretty winter coat (I got it free from Topshop for winning some competition many years ago but that's another story alltogether) and matching winter gloves (yes, call I'm a sucker for vanity).

Ordered a heineken and a cocktail called 'Snow ...' (sorry I cannot recall the exact name! My brain was probably frozen then. Pun intended). The 'Snow...' tasted mild and sweet which is inevitably purrfect for an inexperienced drinker and sweet tooth me. On the other hand, I guess the heineken tasted like...heineken? *smirks*

We visited on a Sunday at 7pm so we were the only two (idiots) there but it's cool (literally) as it gives us ample freedom to take endless pictures (oh, I'm quite a cam whore).

Overall, do give this place a visit. No need to bring your own winter coat if you don't mind using theirs (yes, they do provide too). Of course if you are unable to take the freeze, opt to be seated inside where the temperature is that of an air conditioned room or sit outdoors.

    Whee!!!!

    Must tries: The cold room

How did we end up in the Eski Bar?? This is because, one of our friends, who is back from the United States of America for summer vacation, was complaining that Singapore is way too hot, as compared to the cold Illinois.

Anyway, we adjourned from a dinner place at Stanley Road to the Eski Bar for after-dinner drinks and brezzz!!! (SHIVERS), as we struggled to pass through the 'sub-zero' freezer area to the air-conditioned igloo.

The guys proceeded to get themselves a jug of tequila, while the ladies went on for cocktails. I had a Tequila Sunrise, which is one the better ones which I have had so far. The alcohol was left unmixed (initially) at the bottom of the glass, while orange juice was left to occupy the top of the glass, which is not an easy feat to achieve, especially when there is an overwhelming crowd in the bar. So thumbs up to the bartending staff!!

We got ourselves a plate of Nachos to share and before long, we were wondering, why it was taking that long to be served. Until we realised that it was all made fresh!! Different from the usual nachos I had, but equally tasty and a refreshing experience of nachos!! =D

Eski Bar can get a little noisy and loud, especially when the place is packed, with ppl from all ages and all walks of life. A great place to chillout and perhaps to people-watch, esp. if one is seated on the outside (minus the cold), otherwise, I won't exactly recommend it as a place to do catching up with friends.

The crowd in the bar is also generally a little younger, so it made us (slightly older folks, but still young at heart) feel a little out of place. But at the end of the day, what truly mattered was the company of friends we had.

Great service was rendered by the service crew, who was working extra hard to try and fit many ppl into the slightly small bar area, yet making sure that everyone was comfortable. And kudos to the one female service crew, who was dressed in winter wear but with skirt!! She is the live testimony to being able to withstand the cold, yet still serving everyone with a smile. =)

Do come prepared with all your winter wear and gloves too, esp. if you are adventurous and brave enough to want to stay in the sub-zero 'freezer' area in the Singapore's version of the 'Stockholm Ice Bar'!!

8 December 2007 : RL & I came here for after-dinner stiff drinks...and to experience the chill factor at eski bar. We arrived at 7:00PM and we chose to sit at the really cold room (- 4 degrees). We came prepared with our winter jackets…it was really cold and when we talked.. puffs of condensation came out of our mouths. We were the only customers and the service staff were very helpful in telling us about the place and helping us get our drinks.

    We ordered :
[RL] : Eski Blue – lychee liquer, bois blue & grapefruit juice ($15)

[JC] : The Cosmo – greygoose orange, triple sec, cranberry juice & lime juice ($18)

The cosmo was like a kiddo drink… it was totally mild…like there was only a tiny dash of alcohol. RL’s eski blue drink was similarly mild.

This place is a good chillout place….provided to bring your winter jacket and stay sufficiently warm. It was certainly a special experience because it was really fun to sit in a really cold room guzzling the stiff drinks. If you cannot stand the chill… you can sit in the warmer zone which is like a normal air-conditioned room. The warmer zone has football telecast on screens.

I would like to try the eski bar at holland village one fine day….

Saturday (8 Dec07). JC and I had made prior plans to come here to experience the unique ambience. We came prepared with our own winter jackets. (They also provide in-house jackets for patrons who do not bring their own.) The bar has two sections: the sub-zero "freezer" section, and the air-conditioned "igloo" section. Upon stepping into Eski Bar, is the small sub-zero "freezer" section that has only 2 tables and can accommodate 6 pax. There is a glass door that separates it from the inner section that is a cool air-conditioned environment. We were informed by the staff that the "igloo" section is about 17 °C while the "freezer" section is about –4 °C. We knew what we came for and planted ourselves at the outer sub-zero section and proceeded to view the menu and order our drinks.

RL - Eski Blue, $15++ : lychee liqueur, bols blue and grapefruit juice
Very weak with no hint of alcohol.

JC - The Cosmo, $18++ : greygoose orange, triple sec, cranberry juice and lime juice
Very weak with no hint of alcohol.

As the drinks were very weak, we finished them in no-time, and sat around to chill (freeze, literally) for a while, but it soon began to take it's toll on us as we were sedentary and not moving about at all. I enjoyed the atmosphere here very much because it brought back fond memories for me from another time in my life when I experienced many cold winters.

The staff were very friendly and were patient with us taking many photographs. One of them even offered to help us take photos of us together. We were told that the temperature at the Holland Village outlet goes all the way down to a frigid –15 °C. We can't wait to go there and give it a try!

We enjoyed 30% off as it was Happy Hour.
