Best Burger in Singapore
Oct 13, 2009The decor at this place has been described sufficiently (nice place) so I will focus on the food. I went for a lunchtime burger and did not want all the extras as it detracts from the meat in my opinion. So I just had the burger with caramalised onions and I added some mustard and ketchup as well. The patty was perfectly grilled and tasty and the bun was also a delight compared to what the large burger chains dare to offer us.
Only slight downside for me were the fries, slightly too big and undercooked, but who goes to a burger bar for the fries? I also think the place needs to get its operations more streamlined, I had to wait for half an hour for my burger while the place only had 12-14 other customers. And when auntie and uncle behind me ate before me despite having come in much later I was a bit annoyed.
The burger came to a very reasonable 9 bucks but remember to tip as they do not include service charge and they work pretty hard for it (though not yet completely efficient but then again they only do that at McD and BK and if I had wanted efficiency I should have gone there...).
All in all a place to be very happy with, in Australia there is a place like this on every streetcorner and we need more like these in Singapore.I also recommend this place for

yummy burgers and good service.
Oct 4, 2009Finally, a decent new start-up on thomson road.
I was attracted to the burger bar by it's catchy name when I drive to work everyday in the morning.
'Looks good, let's try it for dinner one day B', I commented to my hubby.
We went there on one of the F1 nights at about 5 minutes to 1pm and the bar looked closed. But it wasn't. It was just because the place was dimmly lit. 'Yay, it's still open, let's go park'. The parking was all taken up so we had to park somewhere quite far away. By the time we walked back to the restaurant it was closed! Didn't expect it to open so late anyway, but it was disappointing nevertheless having walked the distance. We went to a taiwan porridge place opposite the road. That porridge claypot place sucked btw.
Yesterday we went to the restaurant again and it was open. But again it looked closed because of the ambient lighting. The menu and graphics wallpaper decor looked great. An angry fatboy graphic and there's a bambi on the wall! Music was piping quite loudly. This reminds me of an aussie burger place.
We ordered a wimpy (small version) fatboy basterd burger and another chicken burger. Also ordered a side of aioli sauce, and rootbeer float and lemon limebitters. The burger came with fries, a slice of tomato and one and a half slice of lettuce.'
The portion of the burgers were just nice (the wimpy version was quite alot for me even though it was wimpy), and the fries too. The basterd burger was yummy. The beef patty is really good. The bun fat and satisfying. The aioli sauce is fantastic and i cleaned off my 50cents order. I can't remember how much exactly but think it was about $10 for my burger and $3.50 for the drinks.
Other items on the drinks menu that I look forward to trying next time - the milkshakes ard $6 and house wines ard $8.5.
Overall food is really good and service was good too except i found the place abit too dark and music a little too loud. They could give a bit more lettuce too. One and half slice? I worked for a restaurant like that before (dark and moody in a cool way) but that was not quite as dark and music not so loud.
They also serve breakfast but the place opens about 11-12pm?
We'll definitely come back again and thus the blog entry here because I want the place to survive!Must Tries

good burgers - sort out the chips/fries - better than Relish?
Oct 14, 2009love the concept - we all had different burgers with beetroot, aioli, egg u name it
the burgers were a decent size and well cooked, the choice of buns was a smart option too
the fries were undercooked as the last guy said and UNINSPIRING - make them more interesting i nearly fell asleep
milkshakes/floats were good too
service was pretty good although the place was not busy
so we will go back - my son said better burgers than Relish, i would agree
well done - good to see a new place start upSpent about

Average At Best!
Mar 17, 2010Finally got to try this burger joint that got so much hype and talk about. I agree with the other reviews, it is definitely not the best burger in town. The burger is no bigger than usual and taste quite ordinary. Chose my own ingredients to make my own burger, which turns out cheaper than one of their menu items! How odd! The milkshake is most disappointing. So small glass and taste so diluted. Definitely lose out to Billy Bomber's Thick Malt. For that price, I expected much more. Decor looks ok but too much like a bar, so not that comfortable to stay for too long. Service is the only thing that I can say is acceptable....at least I have no complaint on that part......

Definitely not the best burgers in Spore!
Mar 8, 2010"Definitely not the best burgers in Spore!" was what my friend proclaimed after our dinner at FatBoys.. N we all at the table concurred as we nodded our heads vigorously!
Fatboys... with a cool name and a cool setting claims to be the coolest burger joint in town...Sadly the burgers failed to live up to its name n hype n thus became known as the overrated burgers instead..
To be fair, my customised burger was the best-tasting of all hence i've the least complains... I personalised my burger with the honey oat bun with a skinny beef patty topped with caramelized onions n sauteed mushrooms and blue cheese dressing... I lurrve the honey oat bun which is quite interesting for a burger... the skinny beef patty was very average so it's nothing to shout about... the toppings of onions n mushrooms r a little miserly on portions while e bleu cheese dressing tasted like ordinary cheese lacking the distinctive hint of bleu cheese.. Overall it tasted sooo average that it didn't wow me nor leave a deep lasting impression at all..n that's the best burger on the table..
The fat basterd was a surprise disappointment... the beef patty bacon fried egg cheese n BBQ on a sesame bun sounded promising but tasted flat and uninspiring .. Perhaps expectations were high hence the big fall but my unimpressed friend felt that she could simply make one herself at home and could have tasted way better...
Another complain around the table is the awful...and i meant really awful chicken patty... yes it's frozen minced chicken patty and yes you could totally taste that it's frozen.. n no that's not tantalizing people!!! it got such yucks around the table that i felt quite bad for those who ordered it.. Honestly if i had ordered it.. i would have juz simply stood up walked a couple of shops down to Ming's and drink my sorrows away..
Overall this is definitely not the best burgers in Spore and in fact... it's so very very far from it! I absolutely did not appreciate the frozen patties nor the stingy portions much less the very very average-tasting burgers...In fact i would take Carl's Jr portobello burger anyday over this!
Must Tries
to go to other burger joints instead

Too Much Hype
Mar 3, 2010Just some time ago the Hungrygowhere food forum called for votes on the “Best Burger” in Singapore and being the avid burger fan that I am I naturally kept a close eye on how that went. Interestingly, a relatively new burger joint in Upper Thomson Road came out as one of the top voted burger places (if I remember correctly it topped the chart!) and barely a fortnight later I was right there with my buddies.
Maybe it was because of its new found fame from Hungrygowhere. Or maybe it already had its own loyal following. Whatever it was, Fatboy’s The Burger Bar was packed on a Friday night, and it was only after an agonising twenty minutes wait (can you imagine standing there seeing plate after plate of handsome burgers being served) that we finally got a table. By then, it was already a little past nine.
Sunny Basterd Burger: Ok fine, I made that name up, inspired by Fatboy’s larger specialty burger Fat Basterd. I basically DIY-ed my own burger, Fatboy's is one of the rare burger joints here that actually encourages you to do that, and got myself a Fatboy beef patty (200g), a sunny side up egg and some caramelised onions, all topped with Fatboys’ specialty homemade barbecue sauce.
I liked the taste and texture of the honey oat bun as well as the doneness of my beef patty. I know some burger purists have commented that the patty here is of the frozen variation, and if that is so then this would probably be one of the better pre-frozen ones haha. It wasn't crumbly, it wasn't overly dry and it didn't have that thawed juice/water that some have spotted. So it's quite alright, even if it's not the most impressive.
Porkie Salami: My friend liked the doneness of his pork patty too, medium well with that pinkish hue inside. He was not satisfied however with the portions of his salami and sautéed mushroom add-ons, commenting that there were just about three small pieces of each. On overall, he definitely wasn't very impressed as well.
Burger of the Day: My friend's order came in the form of a curry lamb burger, which sadly didn’t impress him much because the curry flavour was not that discernible. He also had the same complaint that his pickles and jalapeno add-ons were just far too little.
Service: Although it was a long wait for the table, the wait staff continually checked back on us with kind words and that made the wait somewhat bearable. Still, the wait for our burgers came up to close to forty minutes, and that’s a bit too long even if restaurant is running on full-house. If you think about it, I only started dinner at ten!

Overrated burgers
Feb 28, 2010And my pursuit of a great burger continues, with a visit to Fat Boys, which has recently been voted by "users" as the best burger joint in a popular local food website. I am skeptical about the validity of the data but no harm giving Fat Boys a try anyways, seeing that it's about a 15 min drive from my place and prices seem reasonable enough. The place is casual and laid back, with bench seats and high bar tables accommodating about 20-30 pax or so. If it's only you and your partner, sharing a table during meal periods might be the norm rather than the exception. The menu is rather simple and the main focus is on the burgers where you can choose from existing options or have your burger customised. DIY Burger - This burger was customised to include a chicken patty topped with sauteed mushrooms, drizzled with their homemade BBQ sauce on a white sesame bun. First looks, the huge patty oozed appetising with evident grill streaks running the breadth of the patty. Now came the bummer(s). The patty was made up from minced chicken and wasn't the whole piece of meat I was expecting. That meant a loss in texture and taste. The mushrooms were a little dry while the bun was merely average. And to be honest, the BBQ sauce tasted, well, like bottled BBQ sauce. Fat Bastard - Apparently one of the respresentative dish of Fat Boys, the Fat Bastard was a mean double beef patty with an egg sandwiched between and topped with bacon strips. Greedy me opted for extra sauteed mushrooms with that and the end result was a humongous burger that threatened to burst my belly. That would have been an ideal scenario if the burger had been good. Unfortunately, the converse was true. The beef patty was overcooked but was surprisingly "juicy", which led to the conclusion that it was frozen patty. Also, the texture was very fine, probably machine chopped. Most disappointing! After a 15% discount, the bill stood at about $23 ($27 before discount). In absolute terms, that price isn't too expensive but factor in quality and there seems to be some disparity. In short, inexpensive but average burgers at best. Service was decent though, if that's any consolation. See all my pictures here.Spent about

Absolutely Sinful...
Feb 21, 2010Didnt like any of their pre-set burger. So I opted for the DIY Burger.
DIY Burger:
Honey Oat Bun
Porkie Patty
Sautee Mushrooms
Swiss Cheese
Fatboy Homemade Sauce
Honey Oat Bun - Loved it. I usually hate all wheat and oats. For the simple reason that they are plain and dry. But this bun, is soft and sweet. Think its that honey that compliments the oats.
Porkie Patty - I have alot of 'love of my life' and this is one of them. For $7, I wish that I would have been a little thicker. Nevertheless, what I love about this patty is that it has bacon bits in them or more like pancetta. The patty is juicy and not too salty (bacon tend to make things salty). Yum! Must Try!
Sautee Mushrooms - Very Pathetic portions for $1. I had to order double portions to satisfy my craving for mushrooms. They sliced the mushroom to thin. So it doesnt have the QQ taste to it. Need to improve on this part.
On the Whole - Love my combination! I am a picky eater and sometimes I do not like what they add into my burger. So being about to DIY, is a plus factor for me. On the cost, it is a bit pricey. I wouldnt mind paying once in a long while. But I will definitely be going back.
Side note: Wish they had air-con though. Can get quite hot in there.Must Tries

Just adding more photos
Feb 14, 2010Just posting more photos here for fun. The place is quite humid. I suggest that Fatboy offer some desserts and ice cream to cool us down. The hot wings are quite spicy. For non chilli lovers, please beware. But it is very nice. The beer battered aren't really good. I think the fries that were served with the burger can be improved. Its quite plain.I also recommend this place for

patty weighs fatboy down
Jan 1, 2010heard so much about it, decided to check it out.
Good.
menu variety was pretty decent, and best part is making ur own burger, which i would probably recommend since the price works out to the same.
milk shakes were pretty good
closes late (kitchen closes 1030pm)
Bad:
i did not enjoy the way the patty was done, felt a bit undercooked.
(they cook it medium well by default - in my case it tasted medium)
i would rate the patties at Carl's Jr or Burger King higher.
fries were blah like the kid in school u would talk to but wouldn't date
pretty noisy with the music drowning out conversation.Must Tries

Nothing to Shout About....
Dec 24, 2009Want to try this Burger place for so long bcos 8-Day gave them a good review. But after trying, so disappointing lor. Ordered my own ingredients for my burger and my partner ordered their Kampung Chicken specialty burger. Dun understand how come my a-la-carte order is cheaper than their specialty burger. I ordered same amount of ingredients too lei..... The burger taste ok only, so nothing to shout about.
Also order their thick malt shakes (chocolate and vanilla). Serving so small and not thick enough. The malt at Billy Bombers so much more better la.
Next time, I'll stick to Billy Bombers!!!! Prices also the same expensive price anyway!! Not worth it la.....Spent about

Meaty Burgers
Dec 22, 2009After much debate of where to eat dinner, we settled in on Fatboy's as my dining partner insisted that she needed a burger fix. Fatboy's is yet another entrant into a recent growing trend in Singapore for the quick and easy burger meal that offers an informal open concept dining where one can enjoy their burgers with beer.
I started with the Corn Chowder ($3.50) which was a hearty portion of soup that is only recommended for the big eater before proceeding to order a Fat Basterd ($14), the biggest thing I can find.
Boy was it huge and thus I had to split the burger into two parts and consume it with a fork and knife. The burger came with two meat patties (150 grams each I believe) which were done medium, ideal as the center of the meat patties were closer to medium rare. I enjoyed each bite. Towards the end, one would feel that the meat gets a little tougher, as brought up by previous reviewers. However, I think this is because of a combination of two factors. Firstly, they use a good portion of meat in their patties unlike some other outlets that add corn and other ingredients to their meat and secondly, after consuming so much meat it is natural for the jaw to feel somewhat tired. (There is a whimpy version for those who do not want so much beef)
Overall though, I found the burgers enjoyable. Service was average, what you would expect in an informal eatery.I also recommend this place for

Not that bad.
Nov 29, 2009Aft the numerous damning reviews, I came to this plc with no/min expectations, and it turn out to be OK. Hence i shd be back, if I'm round the corner, esp if i feel like snacking on onion rings and kahlua vanilla milkshake (my 2 fav things in the entire meal).
Right, the "salisbury steak" beef patties ($13.50) came with 2 patties garnished with mushrooms and mash potatoes. Beef was beefy and flavorful enough for me, ermm...it was well done (not medium well as mentioned by the waiter), so it might come across as dry to some.
The pork patty on the Elvis ($11.50) was porky and well done, again tasted fine to me. However, i do not like grilled bananas and peanut butter on my meat, generally i prefer my sweets and savories to be separate. Hence , I did not fancy Elvis much, but the patty was fine.
The bun was a bit too well toasted and wheaty for me, but my friend was Ok with it.
My 2 favourites were the thick kahlua vanilla milkshake($9.50) and the yummy crispy beer battered onion rings($6.00) with the tasty tomato dip...yum yum..(ermm...dun expect any beer taste...fortunately I couldn't tasted any beer, which I hate...hahahaha)
So coming here, with NO or min expectations was fortunate for me.Must Tries
