Came to Resort World Sentosa with a friend for a walk-about as we have $200 vouchers won from a contest to spend. So we went around a few hours here and bought a many of sourvenirs and gift items.
Since we had about $100 voucher left, we decided to spend it here. So we come here for the dinner (as I have tried Palio and Starz restaurants located at Hotel Michael and Hard Rock Hotel 2 weeks ago during my company retreat here). The restaurant was quite full as some companies were celebrating where their staff occupied a number of tables and a few big families also came it too.
We were informed that the ala carte dinner included a buffet line of appetisers and desserts where we need only to order a main course item from a list of 12 choices.
So my friend ordered a King Prawn set ($38) while I ordered the Ribeye Steak in Black Pepper Sauce ($36).
First of all, the King Prawns were very good and nicely grilled. There were 2 gigantic King Prawns in the set with some fresh greens. They were very fresh and the meat was sweet and juicy. The only feedback we had was if they could increase the quantity of prawns by another 1 or 2, it would be great value for money as the set was a bit pricey.
As for the Ribeye Steak, I ordered it to be "medium well" and it came in quite nice and well done with some greens. The portion was generous as the meat was tender. However, if some fries could be included, it would be perfect.
We were also served with the Soup of the Day and Bread, which I forgot the name of the former. However, it was quite tasty and hot. If my taste bud was not too bad, I felt it maybe a soup made up of pumpkins. Anyway, it was nice.
The so-called Appetiser cum Dessert buffet line consisted a great spread of salad items, mainly vegetables, tomato, potato, corns, carrots, cucumbers, olives, beef slices etc with a few types of dressings. They also have some pastries and cakes like the Chocolate cake, which was very rich and flavourful, Coconut Kueh-Lapis which was very nice, Cheese Cake, Eclair etc.
The fruits section offered quite a good spread of freshly cut fruits like water-melon, rock melon, pineapple, jumbu, guava and jack fruit, in addition to the Chocolate fountain with mesh mellows too. The surprise was that they also included the sour plum power which does go well with the pineapple and guava.
Just a note. Coffee and Tea and Ice Cream were not included in the main course set and if you want you will need to pay extra for them. However, you will be served free warm or ice water and unlimited order for the Soup of the Day!
Ambience was cosy and nice. The sofa seats were very comfortable and everything seemed new and vibrant.Tables arrangement was good and was not too closed to the next table. We were seated by the side beside the glass windows which gave us a good view of the hotel lobby downstairs and watching people moving up and down from the stairs into the restaurant. And if you are sitting on the other side of the restaurant, you could be viewing the garden outside but as the night falls, you could barely see any trees or flowers but a few lights outside.
The lightings were bright and nice and inconjunction with the corporate colour of the hotel which was orange colour. Christmas songs were played as part of background music and there was also a live music performance by a group of 4 musicians. However, I felt sad for the musicians as they were like trying their best to perform but no one was actually paying attention or listening to them as diners were busy eating and chit-chatting among themselves and no single applause was given at the end of every song they sang. As such, I felt they were like performing to themselves. So pathetic!
However, I did enjoy the music and songs sangs (mostly oldies and jazz) and if they could also enliven the spirit by singing Christmas carols, it would definitely be able to "attract" attention from the diners!
Service was good. Staff were polite, prompt in clearing used plates and utensils. Executive chef was seen walking around the restaurant ensuring that the buffet items were replenished on time while the "Ang Moh" lady manager and supervisor came by to ask us how we felt about the food and ambience 2-3 times was a nice gesture for the restaurant to garner diners feedback,
We enjoyed the dinner very much and felt it was quite a good deal on the account that we needed only to top by $5 as the bill was $80 (as our vouchers were in the denomination of $25). I must confess that I seldom go for ala carte dinner and always aim for buffet but to me, I do consider this place a bit towards the "higher end" and the buffet line had limited items.
However, if we have to pay the full amount, we felt it was pricey and may not come as the price we were paying, we could go for quite a good deal buffet in a 5-star hotel in town.
