| Awesome place
This is one of my favourite places to visit. This hidden find which could easily be passed by, has one of the best values for healthy food.
The soups are hearty and delicious, without a trace of MSG, and the salads fresh and tasty - you have to try the corn salad here. The desserts are even more heavenly without being sinful.
Not exactly a halal place, because some of the dishes have pork in it. |

| Nice food, cosy place (although a bit cramped, I say!)
My sis & I like going to Food for Thought. We've been there twice already & we'll surely go back for more!
Reasonable prices, nice food, friendly service...my only wish is that the owners can get a bigger place so their customers can be more comfortable and come in bigger groups (well, that also means more revenue for them right??)
I've tried the Slow-Roasted Pulled Pork Sandwich ($7.90) and loved it. Seriously yummy! It's much better than the Mama's Spicy Pork Sandwich ($7.90), which honestly doesn't have much spice in it. To me, it just tastes like the Chinese pork belly dish but done & presented western-style.
My sis tried the Cuban Ham & Pork Sandwich ($9.90) and I think she was quite satisfied. It was quite a big portion for a petite thing like her, haha! But she managed to finish it, crumbs & all.
The Tomato Lemongrass Corn Salad is yummy and it was served with my sandwich because I upgraded to a set. The chefs there are not stingy so it was quite a fair bit of corn kennels & diced tomatoes! It could improved though, with a stronger taste of lemongrass. Be bold and add more, dear chefs!
Finally, the Chocolate Malteser Cake which is a swweeett way to end the meal. I shared this with my sis, which was good because we were pretty full already & I wouldn't have been able to finish 1 whole piece! Very filling, you know...all that dark chocolate.. |

| Room For Improvement
First off, the food here tastes good. I'm going to be lazy - refer to the other reviews for an idea of what's recommended.
But it could be better with bigger portions. (I think they mean for you to reserve space for the cakes, which are top-notch.) I don't understand why the side salad that comes with sandwiches is served undressed - it's very difficult to eat. I also wish that there would be a fuller entree menu as sandwiches are really not dinner food.
People are always raving about the ambience - I guess I prefer a quieter, more spread out place with access to toilets stocked with toilet paper. Obviously this isn't one of them. But it's nice if you like intimate, warm (both figuratively and physically!) environments.
The wait is rather long. By the time the food comes, you could have finished your drink. I ordered 2 meals at the same time, but the time in between the 1st and 2nd being served was enough to finish eating the 1st. The waitstaff seems rather confused sometimes.
The cakes are indeed amazing. |

| Attitude sucks!!!
I went there just to try out their chocolate banana cake after writing some reviews. The staffs were unfriendly in serving me... they seemed unwilling to serve me when they heard i only wanted a slice of the cake.
Service was slow and i had to wait for a long time before they start to pack the bag after i asked if it was ready.
I saw today newspaper and asked if i could take home to read. One of the staff replied '' dunno, u want to take, take lah'' loudly @ me.
Service is really bad there. They would not even notice if you were to enter and want to order sonething and they really pissed me off!!! |

| Cosy Homely Cafe in Town
Dropped by for a cuppa Latte and a piece of cake at the time of the day where I feel the sleepiest...
I like the warm and cosy feeling of this cafe, with handwritten menus on the wall. Everything is very home-made and it's certainly something different from the very cold kinda franchise coffee cafe chain we see everywhere at the malls.
The latte tasted way better than Starbucks'. For the price of $3.20 I think it's very worth it to enjoy a nice cuppa coffee at a place you can have some peace (in the late afternoon) reading.
Carrot cake - I like the taste as it's just right. Not too sweet, with lots of walnut and carrot. And the cream on top is simply... yummy! You just feel like you're eating something freshly baked by your aunt!
Water- They serve free water and encourage you to donate to East Timor with a piggy bank there. Very heart-warming idea!
In conclusion, this place is certainly worth a second look, especially if you want to support local entrepreneurship and like cafes with a touch of home and warmth! |
