Become lousier

I must say that within a short period of a few months, since I last visit, the drop of standard is slightly noticeable.

First is the waitress didn't ask whether we wanted to ribs or not and just gave us none ribs. I think it should be SOP.

Second, the tenderness and taste of the meat is still acceptable but as compared to many years ago, it is way lousier now.

Third, is the intestine have a weird taste that signals to me that they didn't clean it properly.

One thing that didn't deprove is their service. They are still as welcoming and always ready to service.

Great for people who love peppery soup

I go there often with friends and family. The BKT soup boiled long enough, and the ribs are nice.
There are so many stars & local artists photos on the wall.
Except have to queue a bit... where this place always long queuing...

Must Tries: Ribs

One of the nicer Bak Kut Teh places...

I liked this BKT...
I used to crave for it although I do find it quite peppery.
Good place for star-gazing.
Usually see local artistes there and once saw Jackie Chan's son too.
But find the price a bit steep

Very peppery soup

Saturday (29 Mar 08). Came here with my friends VC, SY, IO and PC+1 to welcome IO back to Singapore. Since IO was the 'guest of honour' and wanted to eat Bak Kut Teh, VC suggested coming here. We arrived at 7:30 PM and there was already a queue outside the restaurant. Fortunately, we waited for about only 10 minutes and we ushered in.

The first thing you'd notice upon stepping into the restaurant is that the walls are plastered with photographs of the various celebrities who have patronised the establishment. Once we were settled down, someone came to take our orders. We had 7 sets of rice with a bowl of BKT each. We also ordered 5 portions of you tiao, and a plate of chai buay and tau kee.

I can see why the BKT soup does not appeal to some. The soup was very peppery to the extent that I would describe it as 'overkill'. I personally like pepper very much and so I found the BKT soup absolutely lovely .I was very pleased with the strong peppery taste. However, I think the fragrance of the soup could be improved on by adding more garlic.

Service was ok and more polite than I had expected for an establishment of this standing. They do give out refills of the soup when requested. I drank 3 bowls of the soup.

I'm "not sure" if I will return because it’s a little out of the way for me to come here, and I don't like the idea of queuing outside on the road.

Definitely overrated!

Heard from friends that this shop is good for BKT.

Decided to try them last weekend. Tried their signature BKT, kidney and the large intestines.

The BKT soup was too peppery, I found, and not flavourful enough. The pepper sort of overwhelmed everything else. The ribs itself was too dry, with not much taste left in it, quite bland actually. I wondered is it because it had been boiled too long together with the soup? I preferred those ribs which I had elsewhere whereby the ribs still have something to savour. Afterall we are having bak kut teh, and not just the "teh" itself. The bak kut should have something for us to munch on also, isn't it supposed to be the case?

The kidney and large intestines are so so only, which meant to say they were forgetable.

To sum it all up, it was an overrated place. May be good for "star-gazings" - with all the posters of movie-stars pasted on the wall.
