| Not a bad place at all
This place is located on the 2nd Floor of Hotel Royal @ Queens, which used to be the Queens St end of the Allson Hotel. This is not the first Chinese restaurant in this corner of the hotel, there were others before and they were all OK.
For lunch, they used to have half price dim sum but not any more. All one gets is 15% off for DBS cards, still OK I guess. Most of the dimsum items were $3.6 - 4.0 before discount.
HAR GAO $4 for 4 large fat 3cm diameter ones, with lots of prawns but not much other fillers. Thumbs up.
CHASIU BAO $3.6 for 3. It was good, with a very nice and tasty filling
CARROT CAKE. This was average
XIAO LONG BAO. Very soft skin which broke easily so we lost half the generous soup inside. 3 pieces for $3.6 OK I guess as it is the larger variey. Tasted good but skin should be more resilient.
EGG CUSTARD PASTRY. Small but very nice.
CONGEE - OK but not good value considering the size of the serving $4-5 each.
YANZHOU FRIED RICE $18 medium serving (filled 7 bowls).
Ambience was nice, service was good and attentive. Prices are OK but I could have paid a bit more and get better quality at Royal China or Wah Lok or paid less and get the same quality at Ah Yat at Beach Road or UE Square. |
