| Curry belly
Bad experince at Boat Quay led us to wonder if we'll get fleeced this time round again. But no worries, coupled with good reviews as well as wanting to eat our way around Vivo City. We decided to pop in for dinner on a Sat evening.
Clean decor, minimal. Alfresco dining was available so we opt for it. Never liked smelling of what we've eaten & it comes with a view of Sentosa.
We had 2 main courses, curried mutton & a brinjal dish. Hb wanted to order more till the staff informed us that it will be more than sufficient once we've added in nan & rice.
Tender, aromatic spiced mutton & nicely braised brinjal complemented the nan & basmati rice. I simply love, love the combination. An extra dish would have been an overkill as I felt a bit jelak at the end. Bit more chilli hot would be good.
The service staff was attentive & friendly enough to explain more about the dishes to us. |

| Feeling peckish for something Indian? Go India!
Well, you can stop at the water's edge at vivocity; don’t board the cruise to India!
I joined my friend for dinner, after I've already had mine, so this is a limited review that won't do this contemporary Indian establishment sufficient justice.
Being part of the restaurant row at vivo’s sparkling waters edge adjacent to the big cruise ship is a magnificent sight. Indeed very few locations in Singapore can match this ambience. Alfresco is a must. Even their bar, served with drinking high tables, is located outside for the convenience of those who want to soak in the lively, sparkling atmosphere. The restaurant décor is almost minimalist white so as not to detract from this munificent ready made vista. The generous table separation is also very conducive for private conversations, though the lively open ambience does not cater for intimacy.
We were served two complimentary papadams, nicely formed into rolls, accompanied by two exquisite dips – one a familiar mint chutney. Nice welcome.
Go India offers a contemporary menu, what a delightful find in Singapore. And vegetarians can relish in their excellent range of selections.
The paalak patta chaat ($8), fresh spinach coated with gram flour topped with mint and tamarind sauce was exquisite. Serving size was also generous for an appetizer. A definite must try for vegetarians and non alike.
The samosa kabab channa chaat ($8), Indian puffed potato patty with chickpea spices was also outstanding.
The main kidney bean galanti kabab ($14), kidney bean patty tossed in smoked fennel and cottage cheese on a hot plate, paled on the gastronomic scale compared to our two excellent earlier chaats. But hey, the kidney beans were chosen for their protein value, and trying to push them up the gastronomic scale is harder than finding a cruise boat to India!
Service was adequate though not to the attentive level of a fine dining establishment.
Prices: chaats & tapas (appetizers) $8 veg, $10-12 non-veg; charcoal grills $14 veg, $16-20 non-veg; mains $16 veg, $18 non-veg; seafood $20-26; pallao (rice) $16-18 indian breads $5; desserts $8-10; lunch buffet $18
The toilet is one of the most spartan one can ever come across. Is this in keeping with the pseudo-minimalist décor or is this meant for staff use given the proximity of better endowed public toilets within vivocity? But then restaurant toilets is a separate topic all on its own. |

| Nothing great.
I have been hunting for good butter chicken in Singapore. Haven't really found THE ONE. Have been walking past this Go India! several times but have not step in as I find that their menu is rather pricey.
However, my brother had indian food there once and gave me a good review on it. As such, I decided to go for dinner since I have a craving for indian food.
I had their butter chicken, naan and some chicken curry thing. I find the food relatively tasty. The naan is pretty alright as well. However, there is no wow effect to any of the food. It just tasted like average indian food at a high price. I rather eat at Heritage or some other indian restaurant with that price that they are charging.
The ambience is pretty nice. There is a nice outdoor sitting as well as indoor sitting. Most prefer to sit outdoor facing the sea.
Overall, it is an "OK" experience for me. I suppose it might be a good place if you like to bring your clients for indian food. If not, Maybe somewhere else would be a better choice. |

| Go india???I rather go Little India to eat all this
My Indian colleagues suggested to try this out for lunch one day when it just open. Nice setting, nice service..
15 of us were served promptly at a long table for the lunch buffet.
15 of us left the place disappointed.
Including 4 of them whom are indians.
We all agreed that we rather go little india or Seah Imm hawker centre (opp vivo)for the india food. No doubt $20++ is a good deal for India buffet. Don't expect the normal kind of prata u expected in indian shop. The food here is more fancy.
But their food selection are so limited, after 1 round, non of us wanna go for the next round. Food taste so blend too.
Definately not worth a second try. |

| Breaking with Tradition
It was with sadness that I read the last couple of reviews on Go India. How can one judge a place based on its buffet spread? Isn't it a well known fact that buffets are generally lower in quality than a la carte options and that that is precisely why they're cheaper? No, I'm not saying that just coz something is cheaper it has to be poor quality, but hey, buffets tend to cater more to the "average" palate and the average palate in Singapore doesn't know how to appreciate good North Indian food!
So allow me to say that if you prefer to just chomp down copious amounts of food to fill up your tummy rather than delicately savoring a myriad of flavors to tantalize your senses, you have no right tarnishing the reputation of a restaurant that serves up exquisite dining pleasures. For Go India breaks with tradition to offer up treats that mesmerize the senses like a haunting melody.
True cuisine is like art - when done well, it inspires the senses. At some of the local South Indian joints in Little India, you may find a little raw beetroot as part of your salad with a vegetarian briyani. The beetroot at Go India, however, rises to poetic heights in the form of perfectly shaped patties spiced with cumin and hing, and drizzled with a creamy glaze. Each tender mouthful offers a burst of almond crunch and pure sensory delight.
The humble kidney bean also undergoes an amazing transformation at the hands of the chefs here. The nutrition-packed beans are mashed, tossed with smoked fennel and mixed with cottage cheese before being served up as patties that even the most adamant bean hater would be tempted to try.
If you prefer something with even more punch - and a little less healthy :) - opt for the spinach chaat topped with an extraordinary mint and tamarind sauce or the samosa / chickpea chaat that is sure to leave you salivating for more. The stuffed baby eggplant accompanied by a rich sesame and peanut gravy left me heady with desire.
Thing is, if your idea of Indian food is the ubiquitous South Indian roti prata dripping with grease or the equally popular nasi briyani, Go India is not going to be your kind of place. Go India caters to a more refined palate that appreciates creativity and juxtapositions of flavors and textures. Traditional ingredients come alive in novel recipes to offer an unforgettable dining experience. That's why I keep returning for more. |
