| an empty cone
kk. lets just say i kind of regret paying tt extra bit to have the ice-cream served in a cone. besides serving its function as a 'flower pot'; it was empty all the way through with the ice-cream ridiculously piled up so high. ARgh.
nonetheless, the ice-cream; we choose a double cone yuzu (citrus) sorbet and the pistachio gelato; were both good. i prefered my choice of pistachio though as i always had the liking for creamier stronger ice-creams and the nuttiness of the pistachio blended perfectly with the creamy texture of the ice-cream. Yum. for a momemnt, the buttery flavor of the nut alone was ominous. the citrus sorbet on the other hand was refreshing yet a tad too sour. the addition of bits of fruits reminded me of orange peel and made the whole taste a bit bitter as well.
I will definitely be going back to try the other flavors though. the lychee sorbet looks promising as well as the honey chestnut. be trying those soon! |

| not exactly fantastic...
i ate a single scoop of the chocolate ice cream in a cone. found the taste too bland; the chocolate taste was barely detectable. the cone was the tasteless plastic-like type which wasn't very nice to eat, and i regret paying extra 50cents to get my ice cream served in a cone. i didn't try the other flavours so i'm not too sure how they taste. |

| Lychee Fabulous!
One would think that after 4 single cups of coconut and lime gelato from Swirl over 3 days, I would stay away from gelato till I hit the gym another 10 times. Yes, one would think. But yesterday, I wasn't thinking...
Walked past Haato and thought "Ah, another gelato shop" so I ignored it and went to the Epicentre. Then on my way out of Wheelock, I passed Haato again - but this time, my friend said "hey! Gelato!".
So I thought, "ok, no harm just tasting....can't be good anyway". So I tried the green tea (don't feel like green tea today), the chocolate banana (not bad, interest level picking up), the lychee sorbet (BING! BING! BING! We have a winner!).
I'm a big fan of lychee and the way I rate sorbets is based on how accurate the described flavour is replicated in the sorbet form. And today, I was struck at how strong the lychee taste came across in the seemingly low key gelato. Taking a close look, I even saw strands of lychee fibre (the red color "vein") that reminded me of the lychee fruit.
Throwing the diet and rubbish "hit the gym 10 times before I can have another gelato" into the wind, I ordered the lychee sorbet and chocolate banana and didn't regret it...till today when I had to do 50 minutes of cardio to burn off the sugar.
The chocolate banana gelato was creamier than the usual gelato, but I quite liked the taste of the gelato to not mind the extra fat I was consuming. In fact, the chocolate banana gelato was wiped out before the lychee sorbet (I had two flavours in a double cup).
So there, Haato...great job with the lychee. I like-ee! |

| It's complete!
Wednesday (5 Sept 07). I was in the area this afternoon, so I decided to drop by to have my favourite Lychee Sorbet and a Yuzu (Citrus) Sorbet. I've completed my member's card!
The price for a Double Cup has increased from $4.00 to $4.50. |

| It's official - we're addicted
Thursday (23 Aug 2007). This is the 3rd time JC and I have been back here in a span of less than 3 weeks. Our most recent visit was just 11 days ago. To avoid an further disapointment for the evening, I decided to stick with something tried and tested, which I already know works well. I ordered a Double Cup of the Lychee Sorbet ($4). It was so super that it left me wishing that it could come in a Triple Scoop Cup.
I had visted the website and there apparently is a Watermelon Sorbet flavour, but I have not seen it at this branch. So I enquired about it and the lady behind the counter advised me to try the Serangoon Garden branch. That's where I'll be heading to this weekend. |
