Very the sedap!! Finger licking good

25 Feb 2011
Always love the food here.... No ambience but the service and delicious food made up for it.

There were 4 of us and we had the following 7 items:

Siput sedut lemak, Terung belado, Ayam Bakar Sunda, Sambal Goreng, Sotong Hitam, Ikan Pais, Tahu Telor.

Including lime juice, we paid $52.

All were good. My all-time favourite have to be the ayam bakar sunda, siput sedot and tahu telor. The ayam bakar is fragrant with the "bakar" (BBQ) smell. The tahu telor is made of soft tahu instead of the usual hard tahu that you get in other places. The siput sedot is a classic, cant seem to find this dish anywhere else.

Ikan pais is another old Malay dish, also hard to find elsewhere. I love the fragrant sambal with the ikan.

All in all, I always go back to this place for my monthly fix of siput sedot.

Tip - call in advance to reserve your place and food. This way, you dont have to queue! But you need to know the dishes you want. I usually order the usual suspects (as above) and order additional items when I am there. So I dont have to wait long for food and space!

: Tahu telor, siput sedot, ayam bakar sunda.

I also recommend this place for:

Cheap Eat/Budget, Lunch, Dinner, Take Away, Large Groups/Gathering, Children/Family, Vibrant/Noisy

Authentic Quality Padang Food at Prices (Very) Easy on the Wallet

    10 Aug 2010
I love the Indonesian/Malay Padang food here, it's cheap, good, authentic and portions are generous.

    1) Begedel (each at $0.50), deep fried potato cutlets, cheap and good. I appreciated that it did not have coriander

    2) Tauhu Telor ($4.00), fried beancurd coated with egg, served drizzled with kecap manis and minced peanuts. It was sweet, spicy and nutty. Where else can you get Tauhu Telor at this price?!

    3) Ayam Rendang or chicken rendang ($3.50). The thick rendang paste is spicy and nutty, perfect complement to the succulent chicken.

    4) Ayam Lemak Cili Padi or pandan coconut chicken with chili ($2.00). This had a very strong coconut and chili flavour. I didn't really like this. Very "siap siap" taste lah

    5) Sayur Lodeh or Curry vegetables ($2.00). It had just the right amount of coconut milk and spiciness

    6) Rendang Lembu or beef rendang ($2.50). Beef is tender and juicy.

You can read more about it at my blog: http://thehungrybunnie.blogspot.com

Still in love with the food here

      24 May 2010
I didn't realise that the Joo Chiat branch and Arab Street belongs to the same group. Nor did i realise the name until they gave me a receipt for my orders (previously don't remember got receipt).

I love love love the food here. Glorious Nasi Padang. Was first introduced to this place by my dad in Yr 2002! Since I left my working place around the area in Yr 2003, I seldom pop down but each time I do, I will indulge in the makan!

Brought my colleagues here to eat. 3 pax ate:

      2 Rice - $1.40 (expensive leh)

      2 Begedel - $1 (love it...shiok)

1 Ayam Lemak Cili Padi - $2 (love the sauce...yummy...not spicy)

1 Sotong Ring - $4 (the most disappointing dish. Expensive, tasted weird and well serving was so little)

2 vege dish (brinja and stir fry vege) - $2 (loved the sambal brinja)

2 Rendang Lembu - $5 (the beef was so tender. Though not melt in the mouth but it was good enough for me)

      Overall SHIOK!
