Have a beer in the afternoon! Ahhhhh that's life!
Jan 5, 2009If you ever wander down to Novena's Harrys on a Sat arvo... do grab a set lunch n a beer n relax e afternoon away...lalalala..... hold on! wait a minute! a beer in e afternoon?!?! r u CRAZY!?!?! SIAO huh? So early drink beer??? well if u belong to this (ahem *cough* losers) school of thoughts.. kindly walk 10 steps across to TCC n get high on your erm mocha? But if u belong to e (ahem *smiles* happening) school of thoughts... let's all get high on our beer n boo across at those kopi ppl! HA!
Now that i've got your attention.. u gona thank me for introducing this cool lifestyle to u.. Waking up on a boring sat arvo with nothing to do? Fancy having some hot food n cold beer in your tummy? Then head on down to Harry's and juz relaxxxxxxxx! (wahahaha this read like an advert but it's not!)
Anyway... Harrys @ Novena offers a fantastic 3-course lunch deal at $12.90 nett.. To start there's e soup of e day such as clam chowder n tomato soup n potato soup n onion soup.. i actually do like e soup.. it din wow me but it's not bad la.. then there's e mains of fish n chips n salmon n bangers n mash n pasta n lasagne n pork chop etc to choose from.. i personally lurve bangers n mash so tat's alwaz my choice... i lurve e sausages n mashed potatoes n onions n brown sauce.. imagine having this on a sat arvo? lovely!
my partner in crime alwaz have e fish n chips which is beer battered and is not too bad.. e accompanying fries r wonderful! thin fries sprinkled with curry powder! yum! i've tried e salmon as well n i tot it's quite good as well... will update more if i ever veer from my bangers n mash n venture into e lasagne or pork chop!
Lastly would b e dessert.. i alwaz have e warm choc cake with generous chocolate syrup n a scoop of vanilla ice-cream... OMG having this on a sat arvo? Sinful! At $12.90 i alwaz tot this is a great steal coz e food r beautifully presented n r of generous portions.. absolutely perfect to laze e afternoon away..
Since we r already sinners we might as well sin away n order a bucket of harrys! 5 bottles at $39 is not too bad a deal.. i'm a surprise fan of harrys beer coz like any good old drinker.. u do get a bit skeptical at harry's own label beer but it's surprising good! light n refreshing.. juz nice for a afternoon...kilkenny? see ya after sun set!
The sun could kill your mood so advice is to stay indoor for lunch n when it gets less sunny n more windy.. head out to e alfresco area n enjoy e "view" while sipping on an ice cold beer... harrys? heinken? watever... ahhhhhhhhhh that's life! seriously.......go give it a tryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy...........Must Tries

Stiff peasant drinks
Dec 6, 2007
5 December 2007 : 77 & I came to this drinking place for a mid-week stiff drink.
We ordered :
[JC] : Brain hemorrhage ($9) & Passion Fruit Daiquiri ($10)
[77] : Sunset Paradise ($9)
The Brain Hemorrhage (peach schnapps, bailey’s, Grenadine) really looked like innards floating in peach schnapps. Anyway, I enjoyed this shooter because it was a good stiff drink.
The passion fruit Daiquiri was like a kiddo syrupy ice-blended drink. There wasn’t much alcohol inside.
I decided to walk back to the old shack in the rain to sober up….(“,)

Nice After Work Hang Out Spot
Jun 24, 2008I come to Harry's Bar regularly for two primary reasons - the after work drink as well as for sports. They regularly have most sports channels here, although I am a little disappointed that they do not have Channel 107 which shows the American National Football League (NFL). Service is pretty efficient with staff doing their best to meet my requests for certain channels to be shown. As there are several television sets, this allows for different shows to air at the same time at different corners of the bar. During happy hours, one can even get a bottle of beer for about $8 - a steal these days. That by itself is a good enough reason for me to make this my regular haunt.I also recommend this place for

Stiff drinks on a school nite .....
Apr 30, 2008
29 April 2008 : 77 invited me for a round of stiff drinks. Like a person-of-leisure, I agreed to go for drinks even though it was a school nite. I got myself outa the old shack and walked to this drinking place.
We ordered :
[77] : Sunset Paradise $9
[JC] : Peach Schnapps - neat $9
Sixty-Nine $12
Popsicle $12
77 did not really enjoy her drink.
I liked the peach schnapps..... i wish they gave me more cos' the glass looked almost empty. My Sixty-nine did not taste good.. It tasted like cough mixture with spices. But it was a reasonably stiff drink. My last drink was a Popsicle. This one really packed a "punch" because the vodka was right on top and the Bailey's was the bottom.
I had to stop at 3 drinks mainly because i had to walk myself back to the old shack. -

Happy hours with drinks...
Oct 2, 2007Monday (1 Oct 07). I was sick and tired of work and wanted to have a couple of drinks. I was also hungry and had not eaten yet. As it was past dinner-time and actually closer to bed-time, I did not want to eat too much; so I opted for the Mini Fish & Chips (as opposed to the Harry's Fish & Chips), which I assumed to be of a finger-food-sized portion. I was accompanied by JC and QQ, who had their dinner elsewhere, but were keen on having drinks too. JC and I each had 3 drinks, while QQ had 2. Our total damage came up to $84.
RL - Mini Fish & Chips ($8), Wolf Blass Eaglehawk Chardonnay ($8), Dirty Harry ($9), Canyon Road Sauvignon Blanc ($9)
JC – Harry's 1992 ($9), Harry's Bellini ($14), Urban Cowboy ($9)
QQ - Jungle Juice ($9), Canyon Road Merlot ($9)
The Mini Fish & Chips came served in a basket as a decent sized portion, which I found to be suitable for a main course. The pieces of fish were shaped like a 'fish-stick' that resembled ebi tempura. The fish was not superb, but it is excusable since this is not an outlet known for it's food items. The fish was limp and not firm. The fish broke apart too easily. I liked the chips. They came in thick and broad slices; and the texture was just nice - not too hard, but still powdery enough to chew easily. My first drink for the evening was a glass of Wolf Blass Eaglehawk Chardonnay ($8) to go along with my meal. I finished it quickly and needed another drink. I had the Dirty Harry ($14) next. As Happy Hour was coming to an end soon, we quickly placed our final orders for the night. I finished off my night with a Canyon Road Sauvignon Blanc ($9).
Oddly, 'Happy Hour' here is from 11 AM to 9 PM; that seems more like 'Happy Entire-Day' to me!
We did not enquire about, and we did not receive a 15% discount despite making payment with a Citibank credit card. I have to dock the Service rating for that.
There is nothing particulary wrong with this branch, but I would probably not return in the near future because there are many other branches to visit!I also recommend this place for

Happy Peasants at Happy Hour….
Oct 2, 2007
1 October 2007 : I came here with RL & 77 for after dinner stiff drinks to cheer ourselves up after a long day at the sweat shop. NS dropped by to enjoy our company before heading home. This place was not crowded at all.. and we discovered that Happy Hour was from 11am - 9pm.(perfect!~)
We ordered :
Fish & Chips [RL's dinner]
3 round of drinks [RL & JC]
2 round of drinks [77]
TOTAL : $84.00
We enjoyed our drinks very much. There was a good amount of alcohol inside the drinks but not enough to make us inebriated. I would have liked to continue with more drinks but Happy Hour ended. We were still very sober and able to make our way home.
This is a good place to chill and unwind after a long day at the sweat shop.Must Tries
