| Will not come again
I did not notice they actually charge the tissue! $0.20 each. Hmmm...Strange. The tissue comes with the discount coupon but you can only use the coupon on the next visit, and this is not stated on the coupon!
Anyway, the taste of the food is great but we are disappointed with the texture. I tried the ginseng herbal chicken soup ($13.80), the pig trotter ($16.80), curry fish head ($22.80), the honey ginger tea ($2.80), and fruit tea ($2.80).
I love the honey ginger tea. It's not dilute, the ginger and honey is just nice. As for the fruit tea...it's lipton, a little bit disappointed, lipton tea with hot water cost me $2.80??!!!
Ok, now it came to the food. The Ginseng herbal soup is sweet...The chicken is very soft. It's tasty ..anyway, I am not sure the sweetness is from the AJInomoto or the freshness of the chicken and the hearbs...One thing i noticed is the wolfberries is still hard. So i confirmed the sweetness is definitely not from the wolfberries.
As for the pig trotters...I was thinking to replenish my collagen...but....i am not sure if this works. This dish came with a strong aroma, it was covered with a lot of mushrooms, and it was in dark black color. Surprisingly the mushrooms and also the pig trotter is very hard. I feel this dish is came out from the microwave oven and you will never have the experience of it melts in your mouth! forget it. I was worried my stomach cannot take this hard food!.
The curry fish head. Again, my conclusion of this tiny little restaurant is they do have the secret recipe of the "ah mah". The aroma of the food is good. But when it comes to the texture of the food....it's much disappointing. |

| Good food but could be better
I have to admit, this place was better than it looked.
Even though the "presentation" looked like a typical Zhi Char store... almost none...
*To be fair... for some of the dishes only.
F&B
Well, the thing is... the expectation is usually set by the pictures from the menu.
But like what I mentioned earlier... this place is one of the places where the food did not exactly look anything like the one in the picture.
BUT......
The Food tastes better than it looks, I must say.
Hokkien Noodles a simple dish... but if you notice, most of the place that cooks it... leaves a very "noodily" / "Ghee" taste. This is especially true from Hokkien Noodles... dunno why... But anyway, this place managed to get rid of that taste.
The Chicken Curry rice, go for it if you like it spicy. Many places make it spicy to cover up the lack of the real "curry taste" but this was not true with this place. Pour it over the rice and it tastes quite heavenly if you like it "spicy"
*But I did wished their rice was more well cooked... slightly "lumpy" / sticky... Not exactly they kinda rice that goes very well with curry.
The drinks that was served was the home made "cooling" drinks / 凉茶. Super with the food.
The side dishes.
One of the better PieTees that I had. Even better than the ones my wife make.
The Spring Roll was alittle too... soggy... but yummy none the less.
The Wu Tau Ko was great too...
Overall,
Not exactly like the one that my granny used to make... (that's their "motto" anyway) Coz my granny is a super cook... but quite close / closer than many other stores out there.
Ambience
Not too bad but the place is kinda small, so cannot really sit alot of people. But one thing that was quite irritating was the smoke from the kitchen could be "smelled" from the sitting area (was not too bad though). Coz the cooker hood they were using were not of those industrial type, was the home kitchen type. The ventilation of this "new" wing of Centerpoint need work.
Value
Most of the people I was with ordered the set menu which was quite a good value.
1 drink, 1 side dish & 1 main course.
Damage? Aprox 15-18 / pax
Service
Most of the staff if not all are from PRC.
Their service was rather impressive I must say. |
