| not so hooked after all....
we girls decided to have dinner at here as C wanted to eat curry fish head.
We ordered the half fish head $20, sesame wings $8, Nonya chap chye $6 and the homemade tofu $8. Drinks for the day: Lime juice $2.80.
The chap chye is passable, quite "mummy's" cooking style and in a claypot providing a generous portion. The fish head is also in claypot but the pot was not heated sufficently thus halfway thru it turned cold liao. The fish is quite fresh with meaty chunks except that the veggies like a bit less lio...a smattering of ladies fingers only. The gravy is so-so, a bit too powdery for my taste and not enough lemak in it to add richness.
Tofu tasted nice and crispy, like the seafood tofu you get in the zhi-char. The sesame wings are essentially deep fried wings just a bit of sesame stuck onto one surface of the wings (to justify the name sake) *LOL*
Overall the food is edible but nothing to cry and shout about. Average place maybe will only pop in if in the area and dunno what to eat. |

| Hooked on Heads
This hidden gem tucked away at the quiet Sin Ming Plaza is known for its consistency and reasonably priced Thai Chinese fare. My makan buddies and I decided to drop by on a Saturday afternoon (my fourth visit) and was surprised to find that the eatery was near empty though my guess is that it will not stay that way for long if they continue dishing out quality food at that price.
We ordered the curry fish head which was cooked in a thick curry broth with long beans (Chinese style) without the sometimes overpowering spices that are staple in its Indian counterparts. We also ordered the superb Sambal fried rice which was littered with chicken bits and seafood, yummy. First timers should also order the obligatory Mee Siam which never fails. Standard fares like Thai fishcake and Tom Yam Soup which cost as much as Thai Express but tasted so much better should surprise the uninformed.
The owner of ‘HoH’ is an unsmiling (cheer up dude) but polite man, the décor is nothing to shout about but hey who cares. Car Park spaces are aplenty and cost $2 per entry.
Personally I have not ordered any dishes which did not meet up to my expectations and I doubt I will for a long time... |

| Worlds apart + a hair
Finally decided to try this outlet after reading all the reviews here..(Furthermore, its located quite near my place and i've driven past this place many many times)
Booked a table for 730pm for 2+1. I muz thank myself for doing that cos a small tables were taken.
Saw all the food reviewed on the wall n decided on the orders (the food came within minutes after ordered!!):
Fish-head curry - No regret!!
Sayur lodeh - portion big w v nice gravy n soft vege
Mutton cute - Nicely done w soft meat
Suddenly, my wife saw a hair attached onto the mutton! Showed to, i presume is the lady boss, she coolly took the meat away n showed to the kitchen without apologising to us!! Just as we were all praises for this place, this happens...
We ended with dessert(altough we were v v full), banana in puff with vanilla ice cream. Nice! I even ta-pow a mango sticky rice!! (haha!)
Bill came n, i presume is the boss, said mango sticky-rice's on the house cos of the hair factor. Wow!
However, with all the praises, the place is pretty noisy with adults n kids diners filling the room. At times, i can barely hear my wife's voice...
I must say that this place is many many times better than the other restaurant, serving fish head curry too, on the other side of this building. In terms of food, value n service, HOH beats the other!! |

| Look No Furthur
Want good fish head curry and mee-siam? Look no furthur. This spot has possibly the best fish head curry in town and a great mee-siam to boot!
Its a cosy, homely restaurant, wonderful for a heart-warming meal with friends/family and gentle on the pocket (though not necessarily on the waist once you start!)
The children (and adults) also get a choice of fried prawn paste chicken wings (har-jiong kai) too, on top of the Peranakan/Thai influenced menu.
After a sumptious spicy dinner, cross over to Icekimo, just a stone's throw away for some interesting flavoured ice-creams. The cake shop near Icekimo has an innovative marbled brownie cheesecake that works! I forget the name of the shop - but its just there.
yum..I'm off to try it again in a few days. |

| Good food, good prices!
Fishhead is really yummy. So are most of the other dishes. The menu is a bit confused, there's a Thai section, in addition to the local dishes. But I don't complain, the Thai stuff is good too. On weekdays, they have very well-priced set lunches. No ambience to speak of, but this place is great value for money. The sort of place you'd just walk or drive over with your family on days you want to eat zhi-char type food but also want air-con. |
