I can't say that the food is that fantastic, but overall I find it quite acceptable.

Ordered the Terayaki chicken chop set.

Although the whole outlook is pretty simple but the portions are pretty filling for me.

I would come back to try other stuff from their menu as the prices are pretty reasonable for a very casual dining.

Dragged my hubby to Hot Tomato like I said I would. We both ordered the Ribeye steak and made ours into meals.

They served tomato soup and tho I am not a fan of tomato soup, I actually found it quite nice. :) The steak arrived and I must say that my steak was not evenly cooked thru out the meat, some parts was medium rare and others medium well. But they never said they were Lawry's so I have no complains as the taste is good and the cut tender. My hubby agreed happily.

I will stick to the prawn with Sirloin order for my subsequent visits as I thought the size of the beef is the same as the Ribeye but the Sirloin is cheaper. Hubby said cannot compare like this as the cut of the meat is different. Oh well, I'm also not a meat expert. All I know is whether I like the cut or not, and I love the sirloin cut at Hot Tomato. They have got themselves a fan!!!!

    Must tries: Steak, pasta

Strictly speaking, pasta is not their main dish here. However, almost every main course comes with a delectable serving of silky smooth aglio olio spaghetti, enough for a mini-meal on its own.

I married mine with the lamb chop today, and was very pleased with the matrimony. The lamb, done medium-rare was juicy and not gamey, with enough meat to satisfy me but not overpower the dish. Furthermore, it was done so well that I even ate up the strip of fat I usually cut away! Damn you, Hot Tomato!

The mushroom soup and iced tea that came as part of the set was good too. My friend's king prawns and steak was really good too, and this place is cheaper than many similar places.

This is a noisy place though, so forget private dining.

Must tries: lamb chop, steak, king prawn, aglio olio

Just went to this outlet today as we were wandering about in Plaza Singapura looking for a place for dinner. From the menu hanging outside, we thought the price is reasonable, so we went in to try out the place. The place is about 50% full. Service was fast, cordial and generally quite prompt.

The place is rather small next to a bubble tea shop? (That occasionally used their blender and create high octave noises. Rather disturbing, don't go there if you want an intimate chat or anything.) Tables are placed very close to each other, it felt like a cramped fast food restaurant.

We ordered a Mixed Grill Main Course and a Dory Fish with grilled prawns Main Course. Both of us upgraded the meal (Plus $2.90) to get 1 soup of day(mushroom soup), 1 drink and garlic bread. Drink wise, we were given a choice of Ice Lemon Tea, Lime Juice, Coffee or Tea. My hubby and i also topped up another $1.90 to get a slice of cake for dessert. The choices offered were Mango Passion Fruit Cake, Brownie or Chocolate Muffin. We chose the Mango Passion Fruit Cake.

The mushroom soup and garlic bread were passable, no surprises. The mixed grill actually tasted rather nice with quite big portion of food given. Pork chop a bit undercooked but flavorful, sausage quite nice, grilled chicken given is too small though. Hubby like the aglio olio that accompany the set the best.   I actually love my Dory fish and prawn set. The prawns are sweet and succulent and the dory fish is tender and not too dry. All this served on top of a big lump (maybe 2 n half scoops) of mashed potato. Mashed potato is the instant kind but the sauce is yummy.

When the mango passion fruit cake came, it looks rather nice. After tasting it, we were sorely disappointed. The cake is dry, mango bits are all shriveled up and the cream doesn't taste fresh....

For this standard of food and with the atmosphere that the restaurant generate, i feel that this restaurant is slightly overpriced though it does have some redeemable factors like their prawns and aglio olio.

Must tries: Aglio Olio, Grilled Prawns

I was out with my guy and I didn't really have any particular urge to eat anything so we walked aimlessly and found this stall. The price looks reasonable so we decided to head in. It was not crowded at all. I ordered the mixed grill while my guy ordered teriyaki chicken grill , both of us had add on $2.90 for a drink , garlic bread n soup of the day(Tomato soup).

Well it didn't take long before my drink , bread and soup is here. The soup was not bad to me as I don't really like tomato soup in the first place. Then the main course is here after we finish our soup. My mix grill includes a piece of chicken , salmon and a sausage. Looking at the portion, I thought it was rather little for each item but after eating I am actually quite filled. I like the sauce for each individual item. The salmon has this sweet fruit dressing then compliment the nicely done fish and the sauce that goes with the grill chicken. Like the pasta as well which was well tossed and cooked.

Service wise nothing much in particular and was pretty normal.

    Must tries: mix grill

This is one place that is although Cheap (real Cheap) but service and food really is a disappointment.

Went there, was really attracted by the menu and prices. But... please see comments below.

Listed are items that my friends and i ordered.

    1: Chicken Wing

Looks good at 1st sight. Salad is really fresh BUT and i mean REALLY BUT, it consist of romaine lettuce and ONE and i REALLY mean ONE cherry tomato. How cheapskate can they get?

Chicken Wings are like those found in the frozen section of supermarket. (Think the brand is called CP or SP, those with spicy wings). Can taste the frozen taste. Then they go give u TONS of fries.

    2: Terriyaki Chicken Chop

This dish comes with aglio olio and salad. Once again it is the "alot of romaine lettuce ONE cherry tomato salad. (*faint) I specifically asked for the aglio olio to be extra spicy, turn out to be NOT spicy at all. Terriyaki chicken is dripping with oil although the taste is quite pleasant. SUPER oily.

    3: Fish & Chips

Seems like they give the same old one cherry tomato salad. This time with a combination of TONS of fries. Fish is cover with an EXTREME thick coat of Batter with a tiny slice of TASTELESS fish inside. (*shake head)

4: Mushroom & chicken baked pasta.

Not at all creamy, chicken breast was as dry as bones and EXTREMELY tasteless. BAD BAD BAD

    5: Mushroom Soup

This came with the set we ordered. Mushroom soup that tasted like thicken water. Ended up adding alot of pepper and salt. (*shake head)

    6: Service.

The speed that they clear your plate is SUPERB~! My friends and i wonder if they have insufficient plate to run the operations. BAD~!!! BAD BAD

Ordered the Escalope pork chop and Sirloin steak. The pork chop is just like your regular ones at food courts, only difference is that there's pasta sauce on top. As for the Sirloin steak, the gravy's a little diluted. Overall quite bland in taste. We ordered the set which came with mushroom soup and garlic bread. The amount of garlic on the bread's pathetic. Perhaps one way they can improve is to add more garlic and some herbs on top to make it look more tantalizing. Service wise not too bad. I only have issues with the food. Not a place i would visit again.

Oh yes, one more thing, i think the cloth they use for cleaning the tables smells because there was this stench from the table while i was eating.

Like what the other reviewers have said, this is a place for budgeted eating if you're sick of food court stuff.

We ordered Escalope pork chop and pork chop baked rice (with olive rice). Both are entirely different dishes, but it seemed that the pork chops were of exactly the same kind, except that for the pork chop baked rice, the pork chops were chopped into pieces. The tomato sauce topping was exactly the same in both dishes. And both of them were served with olive rice. The only difference was that the pork chop baked rice had melted cheese on top of the pork chops. And the difference in the prices? $7.90 for the Escalope pork chop, $9.50 for the pork chop baked rice, which meant that it costs $1.60 for the added melted cheese.

We also ordered buffalo wings with chips, and we had thought that it was the kind of buffalo wings marinate that we were so used to buying from NTUC and eating. But we were very wrong. The buffalo wings tasted like those Macdonald's McWings, except that it was a little bit more spicier.

The service can be improved, as the waitress serving us provided only a fork and spoon for me, when I am ordered pork chop. After trying very hard to use the fork provided to slice the pork chop, I gave up and asked the waitress for a knife instead.

The only good thing about the place is that the price was quite value-for-money as we had a generous portion of pork chop and olive rice.

i expected better of course. the food here is really good. grilled dishes bring you straight to the bbq pit, and some of the other dishes like fish and chips don't fail to impress too. Hot tomato is also big on value, everything is affordably priced even after they jacked it up a bit early this year. The service however, was bad. My husband and I once were given a seat at another couple's table, which means we were sharing the table, macham kopitiam. We don't mind really, but the waitress didn't tell us she was going to do that, PLUS she didn't tell the couple that she was seating us at THEIR table, causing them to look and feel awkward, shooting us a few stares in between their slurps of soup. My husband was PISSED angry and he asked the waitress if we could take the table behind, which was big, and empty. She said she couldn't give it to us as it was reserved for groups of 5 or 6. On hearing that, we decided to leave. We went to cafe cartel instead where we observed that they shared tables too, but they had these partitions that they could add in between tables to give customers privacy.

I think Hot Tomato should take a tip or two from them...

working in the Orchard area has certainly seen a rapid increase in expenditure for me. Whether it be slightly pricey meals here or a little window shopping during lunch hours. they all add up to something monstrous in the end.

Hence, i decided to go budgeted during a dinner meetup with my aerospace coursemate. Prior to this experience, I had already sampled Hot tomato Expres before and found it to be highly economical. Furthermore i rather liked its olive rice. thus we settled on this tiny eatery at the basement of Plaza Singapura.

I had the oven baked meatball and sausages with olive rice as well as a flat white to go along. the portion was rather substantial for its price $7.90 and i totally adored the buttery olive rice with melted mozeralla cheese sprinkled over. they cld do with a little more cheese still but for me it was alright.

The staff however compelled by the fast flow of customers into the eatery were rather impatient while dealing with us. Understandable for such an affordable eatery of course. Whats more, we were taking up their sofa seats for at least an hour. *woops*

nonetheless, Hot Tomato Express is a great place for a budgeted meal and highly recommended for people watching since it is set amongst the hustle and bustle of the food center.
