Trattoria L' Ancora is going through some changes including a possible name change. There is a new Italian Chef - Dominico? and the wait staff seems to have had some turnover as well. The front end manager is still the same and seems to still have the same dedication to perfectionism. Similarly the menu has been overhauled. Some of the really good stalwarts such as the beef ravioli remain with possibly some tweaks to the menu description if not the recipe. Several new items grace the menu including homemade Italian sausages and some other traditional lower cost pasta stalwarts.

The family and I went to the restaurant last night. The Chef's homemade Italian Sausage with Cannellini beans in tomato sauce was very good. Portion was almost big enough for two. The penne pasta with parma ham was also very good. Portion size was more traditional. Also, the tiramisu seems to have been tweaked as well with a bit of a coffee note to the cocoa sprinkled on top? Portion was big enough to share between two. Also, the restaurant serves a very nice Italian Red wine as its house pour....recommended.

I don’t really understand why L’ancora always so quiet, because of the location or the service, or..?



However, after trying the food there, only 2 tables yesterday, I really have to say the food is not bad.



Appetizer I had is the special spicy pork sausage from Italy with garlic source by the side. I never like sausages but this dish is something unique with its Italian spicy taste, not salty at all, and grilled till just nice.



Main course, my fish is SD28, for the quality, not fantastic but it didn’t make me disappointed.

My friend’s steak is SD32 which is really big portion.



The dessert is really nice, looks not tasty like a hard chocolate cake, but actually inside is vanilla ice cream, coated with chocolate powder and chipped nuts.



I cannot say L’ancora is super value for money or better than those mid-priced Italian restaurants like Pasta brava or La Braceria, but I have to say if you want to give it a try,you won’t regret.

Ordered three dishes from this restaurant - the wild boar pasta, a procini mushroom risotto and garlic bread. The boar was passable enough, but nothing special. The risotto was bland to almost tasteless and the garlic bread was just aweful. Will not be returning.
