| Great place for Cheap Japanese Food... Only
F&B
Great, if you are not ordering the expensive stuff.
This place has one of the cheapest sushi (good too) I know.
But IMHO, the Sashimi... errmmm... for the same price... I can get better ones else where.
So if you are craving for sushi, this is the place, but if you the craving for sashimi... you may wanna consider else where.
Ambience
errmmm, it's in town... in a corner of Wisma... ambience... quite nice.
Value
As mentioned above, it's one of the best places for sushi but not sashimi.
Check out the picts. $1.90 / plate.
Service
It's got one of he best service staff of all the restaurants I have visited.
friendly, helpful, always smiling.
It's one of the things that keeps me coming back.
It's just one of those things e.g. If the service staff is always sulking, even though they have the best chefs / best food... i'll lose my appetite. |

| Stuffed... to the max...! *momeee*
Miss Piggy wanted to eat some "nippon" food so head off to Ichiban Boshi @ Wisma for Craving Satisfaction...
I ordered the Nikutofu Teridon Wazen $16.90 as i love teppan and the thought of having a piping hot tofu beef teppan sent my mouth salivating... *LOL*
The serving was enormous! (pls see pix attached)... there is a starter of cold tofu with marinated garlic on top in its own small bowl. Miso soup is provided and has small bits of tofu and seaweed inside. The star of the day: Nikutofu! It has 4 squares of tofu and slices of well marinated beef topped with the mirin shoyu stock. Rice bowl came with 4 pieces of chunky tori terriyaki and the serving of mix tempura with the dipping sauce.
For such an enormous serving, the items are all saltish to my taste. The teppan i can understand due to been under constant simmering, the stock is more condensed thus salty. The beef is too peppery in taste, cant really taste the sweetness of the beef... or was the beef not up to standards thus heavy seasoning is required to mask the smell???
The tori terriyaki passed though i would have prefered the bits to be a bit crunchy instead of been coated with the sweet red sauce.
Tempura is a big disappointment. There are 2 pcs fish and 2 yasai- okra and pumpkin. The tempura seemed to have been sitting there for a while as the fish was crumbly and not crunchy... (not a sign of freshly fried) Moreover, the radish has been pre-added into the the dipping sauce thus i cant ask for more radish nor adjust the amount.
If you are the quantity over quality here is the good deal but for fussy mISS pIGGy, either i request for less salt cos i dun wanna get hypertension or just give this place a miss. |

| value for money
Though been only twice at Wisma branch but am impressed with the staff efficiency and professionalism. The set lunch for $8 with junky salmon pieces in a mini "steamboat" style is definitely value for money meal and tasty. The bento set - salmon sashimi in a sml bowl of rice, unaghi with savoury egg omelette n rice, 3-4 pcs of nicely done softshell crab, miso soup, tofu n fruits.
Very satisfying but too filling for one person . Sushi from the conveyor belt were equally good and fresh. |

| Super value Jap Place
Used to see this as "high-end" (schooling days lah) but honestly, this Jap rest is one of the most value-for-$ places out there.
First time I've tried Ichiban was the Novena branch (many YEARS back) and we only dared to order a few dishes. The sushi was great then and it still is!
The salmon roll + mayo (exact name forgot) is REALLY GOOD. Despite mayo being "sinful" but the combination is WOW. There are other interesting sushi types too.
But recently, we (my friends and I + family) have "upgraded" to ordering set meals! I must say...it's REALLY VALUE FOR MONEY. For about $20, you get to eat a few of ur favs e.g The Don Don set (which consists of a mini unagi don + mini chilli sakae don + miso soup + fruits + chawanmushi even). The eel is good, the salmon surprisingly refreshing, chawanmushi got standard. What else can you ask for?
Honestly, ONE set is more then enough for a single person. On not so hungry days, 2 can even share one! I've subsequently tried the beef with egg set, black pepper chicken set with sashimi! and many others...And the BEST PART IS...all were YUMMY! never yucky! Just that sometimes i end up being REALLY full...
One downside though...Wisma branch really quite alot of people during peak meal times. Once (late night shopping Friday) my friends and I were deadbeat yet we still had to wait 45 mins for a table (after 9pm!) + the waitress mistakenly gave OUR table to a grp who came after us. So i'm taking off some marks for service from there. (She did apologise profusely though so we couldn't flare up at her...). Plus they hardly "chase" ppl out (closing time, so that's good)
Wisma used to have some sort of a view but it's just all construction now...sighz. |
