It was 3rd day of CNY and my hubby and I were looking for food and we figured Japanese restaurant shouldnt be closed during CNY ya? Our first time at Ichiban Sushi and I had my soft shell crab tempura while he had the mentai salmon set. The food was not bad and we were thankful that theres shops like these open during CNY. We ordered the ala carte sushi rolls and it was average. Overall experience was okay but I personally feel the staff shouldnt be having their staff meals infront of customers.

Acceptable Japanese Food

I stayed in Hougang and patronize this restaurant about 6-8 times a year.

The reason, it's convenient. There are better and finer Japanese food restaurants else where, but for daily staple, this is acceptable and better than some hawker Japanese food I could think of.

Price wise, it's reasonable.

My sister tried the salmon with rice and she claimed that the salmon is fresh, better than the branch in Orchard.

As for me, I've tried most of the items on their menu (other than the raw sushi) over the last five years. Their price had been quite expensive (not value for money) then it drop and now it's on the average. The salmons that comes along with some of the main are fresh. I especially like their california maki. Usually I ordered them (so that it's not so dry) instead of taking it from the conveyor belt which may have been dryer due to expose to the air for too long.

Dinner time over the weekends are usually crowded. Services are average when it's crowded, but the waitresses responded when you managed to catch their attention.

Fresh food, good service

Service was humble and polite.

Helped my mum up and apologised profusely when she fell because of the slippery floor.

Nice food, I slurped up all of the soup in the salmon bowl (can't remember the name)

Egg sushi + octopus sushi were very good. The Japanese cheesecake was pretty tasty as well. Miso soup was superb (I often judge a Jap restaurant based on its miso soup and this one did not fail me). Chawanmushi was awesome (did i mention the gingku nut in the chawanmushi surprised me (in a good way)?)

Really very satisfying. (:
