Flight and Dine

Visit eateatenate.blogspot.com for a full review with pictures.

A Singapore Flyer ticket costs S$29.50, but with the 'Flight and Dine' package offered at Jalapeno's Pepper, you could actually top up approximately S$12 more (S$35.90++ in total) for a complete meal AND a Singpore flyer ticket.

Iced Lemon Tea and Cream of Pumpkin (Beverage and Soup of Flight and Dine Package A), S$35.90++,
Normal glass of fountain drink, and a bowl of homemade Pumpkin Soup to start with, creamily smooth.

Fish and Chips (Main Course of Flight and Dine Package A), S$35.90++,
We hate Fish and Chips, but we don't dislike the one served by this restaurant. The deep fried batter was thick, clinging tightly on to the white fluffy meat underneath. The battered fillet didn't felt too fattish despite its doughiness, and there's a sweet taste to it. It came together with potato wedges, mixed salad and tartar sauce.

Grilled Chicken Primavera (Main Course of Flight and Dine Package A), S$35.90++,
The colours and flavours were incorporated very well into this bed of pasta. We like a dash of everything - sliced grilled chicken, broccoli, cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, carrots, zucchini, chilli flakes, and olive oil, tossed together with spaghetti in Aglio Olio style. A waft of the aroma will set your mouth watering.

Hazelnut Mango Roulade (Dessert of Flight and Dine Package A), S$35.90++,
The dessert was something like a swiss roll that was baked with real mango, soft and spongy, served with fresh fruits and a stream of strawberry sauce.

VERDICT
The sole reason we chose dining at Jalapeno's Pepper is because of the Singapore Flyer ticket tied into the meal package. To us, the meal was just a bonus so it didn't really matter. But in general, the food was reasonably decent.

A little feedback on handling feedback.

For me, if the food is great, service can lack a little and I wouldn't be too concerned.

I was there with my family for a dinner on 23-Aug-2008 at around 6pm. Food wasn't great so that leaves me with no choice but to highlight a concern regarding the service.

My wife ordered the Risotto Al Frutti Di Mare from the list of chef's recommendation. We found the rice a little hard for our liking. When the waiter came along, I feedback that the rice was a little hard. The waiter immediately told me that risottos are cooked this way, to quote "the rice is only 80% cooked".

I'm no food expert so I wouldn't argue with that. But I'm sure that is not the best way to handle a paying customer's feedback.

I have the following suggestions:

If that is really the way risottos are cooked, then maybe at the start the waiter could have given us more information about the way the risotto will turn out and ask if we would like it cooked differently. Or maybe that piece of information can be printed that on the menu.

On receiving the feedback, perhaps the waiter could have suggested or ask how I would like it done and bring it back to the kitchen for it to be re-done. Or the waiter could have suggested that the plate be brought back to the kitchen for the chef to check. In this case, even if the waiter came back with the same explanation, it would have been easier for me to wear that explanation.

Or maybe, offer a free glass of cold tap water for any feedback received! :)

On a side note, the reply from the waiter about the rice being only 80% cooked, came back really quick and sounded well prepared. This leads me to think that maybe this is a common feedback and all the waiting staff have been given the script to read. Just maybe.

a not bad experience

Went to Jalapeno's Pepper Steak & Seafood Cafe at about 6.30pm & we were the only table taken! Therefore, service was good.

Their funishing. Quite bright and cheerful colours.

FOOD!!! Calamari! The calamari there was superb. The jalapeno tomato sauce given tasted nice too. However, what disappointed me was the dead small fish found at the sotong head. God knows how well have they clean the sotong.... haha lets not think too much.

They did not serve ice water. So we ordered a drink that tasted mediocre.

Calamari $8.50, Kiwi Rain $5.50

Signature Grilled Fajitas - Chicken and Beef Combo $19.50.
Suppose to wrap all the stuff on the fajitas (3 fajitas was provided). meat tasted abit salty and was dried as it was served on a hotplate. but tasted delicious when is wrapped with some green/red pepper, lettuce, cheeseeee, sour cream n chicken and beef. =)

Risotto Al Frutti Mare. (seafood risotto) $21.50.
Served with 2 very big scallop, fresh and crunchy prawns & sotong. yum =)
Very filling dish. Our first time trying risotto so not in the position to judge the quality thou it tasted quite nice to us!
Risotto is a rich and creamy, traditional Italian dish made with a high-starch rice such as arborio, carnaroli or vialone nano. It is one of the most common ways of cooking rice in Italy.

Total : $64.35. After 15% discount for UOB credit/debit card, it cost $54.70!
Will probably go back one day but not sure what to try as some other dish are quite common.
Do go to the website and play with the menu!

Jalapeno's run of the mill stuff

I was excited to ride the Flyer for the first time. Having read about new eateries mushrooming there, we decided to try one of them out.
Jalapeno's sounded Tex Mex and rather different, so we went right in

The decor was contemporary. Modern and pleasing to the eye.

THe food was supposed to feature Jalapeno Peppers inside but I think the taste got washed out a little too much. From what i recall of Jalapeno peppers, it should pack a punch - spicy, sour and sweet...but i felt the taste was not drawn out enough in their food.

I must really punch the management for NOT serving tap water. It's like what's wrong with our NEW WATER? Situated in what is supposed to be a Singapore Icon, I think New Water should be featured on the menu. It's not even a posh restaurant, for God's sakes. This place looks like a fast food joint! I feel it's criminal to make anyone pay for drinking water.

Food is the usual boring old western stuff - steak, ribs, burgers, salads. Hello? Anyone with fresh ideas? Are Singaporeans such real suckers for this stuff?

I had the baby back rib salad. I must say the ribs tasted like there was a lot of promise in them, but I wish they would be a little more generous with the serving of meat so that I can confirm my assessment more emphatically. Salad came with a dish of dressing. I'm not sure if the dressing was for that little piece of meat or the vegetables coz it looked only enough to paint over the meat.

The Stud had the Blackened Burger. Yeah, he digs anything that's CHARRED. The meat patty was really black! The patty was herby, like there was a pound of oregano inside. Hmmm. I felt it interfered with the taste of the meat too much. Good attempt but to survive in the burger jungle out there, this ain't gonna make it.

To count our blessings, the view of the ECP/ Benjamin Sheares bridge and the Singapore skyline over Marina Bay was enticing.
