| Thai Food at its BEST! - home cooked style
was not able to find as address given was wrong, should be Blk 125 and NOT Blk 123...
Tucked in a residential area where they are many very old school confectioneries....
its air-conditioned and set in a very homely styled setting - jus wooden tables and chairs with simple old school bowls n plates...
The food is authentic Thai with jaw-dropping affordable prices....
Good for eating out with your family instead of the usual food courts or take-away... a family of 8 were there when we went - celebrating one of the Auntie's b'day.... |

| reasonable prices
One of my favourite places for thai food, past few visits have been consistent and more importantly, prices are decent for the quality you are getting as compared to the usual thai food chains.
Service wise for me has been minimally decent although i think it really depends on which server you get.. if the lady boss is around she is definitely warmer and more proactive than those that has been mentioned below.
one and only gripe - found a weevil in my plain rice on the last visit :(
would like to try the crab bee hoon! is it any good? |

| Thai-ed down by Serivce
Checked out Joe's on a cold rainy day, hoping some hot spicy tom yam soup and the like would warm us up. Our experience however, was already marred by the service even before the food arrived at our table.
Food: Love the prawn cakes and stuffed chicken wings. Tom yam soup a bit too OTT for my liking. Think I should stick to Indian / Peranakan / Malay /Chinese spicy food and skip Thai spicy and sour stuff. Prawn claypot vermicelli was OK, just annoyed had to keep picking out the bits of garlic.
Service: Awful beyond awful. Grumpy old waitress ambled her way up to us and kept banging on about whether we could finish the food. So we asked her if there was a smaller helping. She said no and kept pushing the pad thai but said it was the same size as vermicelli (???). We insisted on trying the vermicelli and she kept pushing the pad thai. ARGH.
Ambience: Very stark and bare. Not the most welcoming place in the world.
Might just stop by to takeaway the prawn cakes and wings. |

| Nice prawn cake
The wait staff who took our order was a little rude. She was like "order so much, you all can finish a not?"
Nonetheless, the lady boss was nice. The prawn cake was good, the rest of the dishes we tried are:
1. Tom Yum Soup - looks like from some paste
2. Mango Salad - Ok, nice crispy cuttlefish
3. Green curry chicken - very rich. Some coconut milk was seen in the curry (uneven mixture)
4. stuffed chicken wings - Ok, don't like the mixed peas inside though.
5. Crab tang hoon - Crab was fresh, small though. Tanghoon wasn't oily.
6. Prawn cake - fresh prawns, crispy.
The place doesn't serve thai drinks. Not exactly the authentic thai fare you find here, but certainly value for money. My 2 girlfriends asked for 2nd helping to the prawn cakes. |

| good value food but not very thai
visited joe's kitchen 22 july 2008 for dinner
decor----simple, basic
easy to find ; easy parking
mango salad----8.5---best i've eaten in singapore
prawn cake-----8.0
fish cake------8.0
tom yam kung---5.5---delicious on its own n the prawns were not overcooked n fresh. but the aroma is nowhere near the characteristic tom yam kungs i hv tasted in thailand bcoz the soup lacks lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves(limau purut) , galangal , shallots and most importantly the big green lime used was not the type used in thailand. how do i know? i cudnot detect its critical flavour in the soup :((
tapioca dessert-8.0 |
