an off day maybe?
16 Nov 2012A little disappointing having heard so many good things about this place.
I visited it 2 days back for dinner. It was packed and we had to wait for about 10 minutes which was perfectly fine. After all, Singaporeans have limitless patience when it comes to queuing for good food.
There was a huge variety of side dishes - very similar to what I had when I visited Korea. Most of the restaurants carried many delicious side dishes. The side dishes were were good and if I recall correctly abut 12 or 15 side dishes all of which were refillable.
On the mains, we ordered a hotpot and the pancake. For the hotpot, I thought it doesnt have 'kick' - I have definitely tasted much better ones in other Korean restaurants in Singapore. Somehow, it wasnt that flavourful. We asked for chilli as they seemed to have forgotten the chilli flakes or paste.
The pancake is a little below average. Again, the flavours were not up to scratch.
I am not sure if I went there on their off day but it certainly was slightly below average.
Service is prompt and decent - no complaints in that department.

The stretch along Lorong Kilat sees quite a few familiar shop names like Udders ice cream, Carpenters & Cook and none other than Kim's Family. Val, Pris & I were at the latter for authentic Korean food!
Does taste bud changes as we get older? The answer might be a yes for my case 'cos I vividly remember I used to hate eating kimchis and other korean side dishes but now I'm totally addicted to it and there's a huge tub of it in my fridge to satisfy my kimchi craving anytime. Though best to be eaten cold, I prefer eating it warm/hot. Kim's Family serves it warm!
So since my taste bud changed, I'm now loving almost all the side dishes on the table! The free refill was such a wonderful bonus. We were so busy eating and got carried away, completely forgotten about our main dishes.Kimchi Jjiggae is one of my favourite Korean food and a must order at Korean restaurants and this just have to be a major letdown :( It turned out to be way too bland and this should be one of the worse kimchi stew I've ever tried. I dare say I can cook better than this. Really! Lol.
Pris was craving for pork belly so we ordered a portion and I was thinking I may not even like it 'cos pork belly = layers of fats = greasy and fattening?. Didn't know Samgyeopsal (pork belly) was so delicious and addictive till I tried it. Gobbled down everything even with the fats. Oh so sinful but simply irresistable... Wrap the pork belly in lettuce with some gochujang (korean chilli paste). OMO OMO totally in love with it!
Total bill came up to $64 for 3pax.

16 Jul 2012rice cake (dokbuki) is very nice!!! must try. $8 one portion not enough for me. hehehe...
Chap jae (vermicelli with mix vege) nice too.
the fried pancake not crispy like last time. but still can try.
chachang mien very bland found one piece an inch by an inch of pork . disappointed. the instant ones from supermarket are better.
kimchi quite salty probably because they serve fresh kimchi. And their price has gone up. ordered 5 dishes in total.
