Wow! Surprise Find!
Jan 15, 2008I'm surprised no one wrote a review for this one! OK, I just discovered it myself not many days ago... It was one of those days, hungry for some nice Chinese cuisine for a hungry stomach... and stumbled onto it while looking for "something good and cheap" - in Tampines.
I wasn't looking for dumplings and ramen, I just thought the set menu look interesting and the price for two looks reasonable. S$32++ for 5 items. There were: 1 spring chicken dish (excellent, must try!), 1 prawn and celery (acceptable restaurant standard), 1 fish and century egg soup (not common at all, and tasted just right), a vegetable bean curd dish and a cold dessert. The dishes complements each other and the meal is completely satisfying.
I went in the evening, it didn't take us long to be seated. I guess there are too many F&B competition all within the vicinity. However, the place is not empty. On first glance, it appeared to be full. I would suggest that you made reservations for the evening if you want to play safe!
The embience is... slightly noisy. The set-up is modern, simple and pleasant. I wouldn't give it 5 stars for decor (look only slightly better than most fast food restaurant) which is rather deceiving because the food, or in this case, the cuisine - is really very very good. And unexpected - it does not tally with the decor at all!
Most of the waitresses sounds like from China so I thought the cuisine origin from some parts of China. I enquired and was told that the chef or chefs created the dishes for the local palate.
The dishes are not oily or salty, so bring your parents if you wish. Go and try it out. If the standard maintain, I'm sure this is one of the restaurants that is going to become a familiar brand.Must Tries
