Great value buffet if you're a wagyu lover
Jun 13, 2009had a dinner buffet with my colleague earlier around 1820hrs, saw the advertisment on new paper plus the review made us decided to go for broke with the $80(after GST and service charges) dinner buffet. The place was empty then, by the time our tummy was bloated, it was around 2030hrs already, place was 3 quarter full, not a good thing cause, the place is very small man, 4 tables and 1 sushi bar, 1 table can take in 5 max, sushi bar not sure cause on the other side cover by the banner. Expensive to some people but some good things are worth trying because one live only once not twice. Below is my review.
Mix sashimi, with yellow tail, horse mackerel, swordfish and salmon, all very very fresh, personally like the swordfish so ordered 1 more of that later. Also ordered one more salmon just for fun.
Ordered Tuna Belly Sashimi, this one only can order 1 set per pax, try one set first, it comes with 2 pieces so took one each, wow I tell you wow man, this is like the best sashimi I have thus far, although frozen, but the taste I cannot describe man. Order another set later.
Ordered jellyfish with scallops. Wow all fresh man, the jellyfish was very sweet too, not sure about scallops cause don't like it raw.
Ordered 1 set of shabu shabu set, it comes with fresh mushroom, vegetables, carrot and tofu. Choice of wagyu thinly slice beef, chicken, noodle and porridge. Had 2 plates of wagyu, and concluded it with porridge, by the time the soup was excellent with the wagyu adding the flavour. Mushroom I can say definitely not from wet market one, tasted different.
Ordered 1 soft shell crab, took some time to come, but worth it, nicely fried and hot, so what can I say, great soft shell crab.
Ordered 1 fried shisamo, only my colleague fancy it, mentioned it was sweet and gave the 2 thumbs up.
Order 2 raw prawn set(2 prawns each set) which still comes with the body and so on. Only my colleague ate them, mentioned ok lar, fresh but no sweetness, should have one, he said.
Ordered 4 US oysters, only my colleague ate them, mentioned just ok, not sweet too which should be, hmm maybe of the long distance flight, hahahaah.
Ordered 1 ramen, only my colleague ate it, stupid fool, he did not notice the shabu shabu can order noodles, so too bad, already did so had it, mentioned just to warmup his stomach engine.
Ordered all the BBQ skewed items available on the menu, just one stick each to share. Ton toro(pork), chicken wing, scallops, quail eggs wrapped with bacon, aspargus wrapped with bacon, mushroom with chicken fillings and plus plus, cannot remember. All shiok, cause well marinated with the BBQ sauce, suspect it's a secret recipe.
Ordered 1 tamago(egg sushi) set around 2020hrs just for tasting, hmm I thought it will be like any $1 sushi, but I was wrong, the egg hmm also cannot describe, definitely tasted different man. I had sushi tei, waraku, sushi bar, all cannot compare with this one. No wonder took about 10 minutes to make 2.
Karubi(short rib, pan fried) and wagyu beef (BBQ pan fried). The Karubi was ahhh, sweet man, maybe too sweet to my likings, but still good. This buffet I was focusing on the wagyu only cause I saw the menu on the wall and ad, 100g is $24.90! I had wagyu before, so definitely will not go wrong with it. Had the wagyu here done in medium style and plus the marinated sauce, wow man, definitely wow, shared 1 plate with my colleague and ended ordering another. I took it all man, the second whole plate.
So bottomline if one calculate I ate 2 plates of wagyu beef which is about $50, I already like had 60percent of the buffet cost already and I haven't add in the 2 plates of shabu shabu wagyu thinly slice beef in. The swordfish we had 2 plates, checked the menu, 1 set about I think 4 or 5 pieces cost about $18. So we already like eat more than $80 dollars already if we go for ala carte! I wonder the tuna belly cost how much man, cause not even available on the ala-carte menu man. The drink we had hot green tea which is included in the buffet. Throw in another $35, one get to enjoy FREE FLOW of beers, soft drinks and etc, japanese beer ok, I think Asahi. The buffet definitely value for money if you're a wagyu lover. Ambience not really fancy personally cause rather not so well lit, one small light to one table, but have to take off shoes before sitting down, hmm style or what you tell me. Service excellent cause only 1 lady served us during the period of time, till around 2020hrs, she's busy already but we already like full and not moving.
Like I said, one live only once so try once ok, not twice, hahaha. Just kidding, can also come if you have a tight budget, just go for the cheaper stuff in the ala-carte menu. Also my colleague told me the buffet stated have japanese styled LOR BAK but not inside the buffet menu. Completely forgotten about it till we checked the ala-carte menu around 2025hrs, so just forget about it, already full! Lunch buffet is $60++ I think. To note only available on weekends only, that means friday to sunday only, as stated inside new paper.Must Tries

Got Cheated... Beware...
Apr 1, 2009This is the 2nd time I went to this restaurant to eat. 1st impression of this restaurant is very good cause the food, service and everything is above average. But my 2nd visit will definitely be my last visit here.
We were served by the same lady as the 1st visit. She only gave us the Ala Carte Menu and I have to ask if there is any Set Dinner menu then she reluctantly took the menu for us. Thinking this might be the worst thing I can get in this restaurant, The worst thing is just about to begin...
Total there were 3 of us dining, so each of us order a Set Dinner each. During my 1st Visit I ordered some Kushiyaki and got tempted to order somemore on this visit. Total I ordered 5 type of kushiyaki. Thinking that the 5 sticks of kushiyaki are not enough for my gf and her brother, I did an additional order of salmon sashimi. The lady asked how many portion of salmon sashimi I want cause 1 portion only serves 5 pieces and I replied 1 portion will be enough.
The sashimi was served followed by some kushiyaki, to my surprise they served 2 sticks instead of 1 (1st visit serves only 1 stick). Cause it was few months since my last visit so i felt maybe they changed their serving quantity. while we were having our Set Dinner, 3 sticks of Unagi was served, This time im very sure 3 Stick of Unagi wont cost only $4 as shown in the menu. But we had already eaten more than half of the set Dinner and also finished the kushiyaki.
After we finished everything, I asked for the bill from the lady. She showed me the receipt of $122. I confronted her whether she ordered 3 qty of each kushiyaki I ordered and she replied yes. I told her that she should ask me how many quantity I need before ordering 3 each for us. She didnt say anything but I gave up argueing cause its all in our stomach. (On our first visit we also got total of 3 pax and the sticks served also 1 per order) Why is there a different in standard over here with the same lady? Sales is bad cause location not very gd? Even if sales not gd also not the way to do business. 1st they got Set Dinner but nv show us the menu, after that the lady act clever order 3qty of kushiyaki for us. When I order salmon sashimi then she ask me how many portion I want. I felt she already got this conning session all planned. Playing physcho with me. Sashimi ask me how many portion then Kushiyaki nv ask... Utterly disappointed with this restaurant. Also they served 2 qty instead of 3 for the first few order.
Total I paid $122 for 3pax... With $40 per pax budget I can eat much more better stuff than this anywhere anytime. Please beware before you step in to this restaurant.Spent about

Yakitori
Aug 10, 2009Located jus outside Hotel windsor, kushi dinign bar serves authentic japanese food. The decor is simple, with 2 japanese laterns hanging outside and the menu.
When i stepped into the dining bar, i had a home-y feeling as it's pretty small, cramp and cosy. It can only fit a small group of ppl.
The menu itself is not very extensive-frm yakitori to ramen.
Do try the yakitori as they are popular items here.
I had the grilled unagi, jap lor bak & grilled japanese fishcake. The grilled unagi is soft, a little charred(love it) and they use a special sauce that goes very well with it.
The jap lor bak, a small little pc of braised pork, cut into 4 .-jus like the chinese ones. However, this is quite tender and the sauce is quite unique.
Grilled jap fishcake. Normally i do not like fishcake as they tend to be quite salty and the fishy taste turns me off. However, this has lots of veggies and can hardly taste any fish. It is grilled to perfection.
This is a small and cosy japanese dining bar and great for 2 having lunch.Must Tries

Discover a cool eating and relaxing place
Apr 29, 2009Cosy place for lunch. Food is very fresh and tasty! Defintely will come again with my customers and friend! -
Ok lah. Nice comfy feel. like 居酒屋 in Japan
Apr 23, 2009Went there a couple of times.
Lunch, dinner, etc.
Tried quite a few dishes.
What i like...
The Pork Belly Stick ( if you don like pig fat, don order. lol )
The Unagi Stick
The Japanese "Lor Bak"
The Fresh Sashimi, especially Salmon and Swordfish.
I went during last christmas as well, the christmas package was excellent, King prawns, fresh osyter, japan river shrimps, waygu beef, puffer fish, plate of sushi and sashimi.
Overall damage about S$200 if i remember correctly.
for normal set lunch,
burn me about S$15 to S$20 depends on what u order.
The green tea and extra rice is free.
I popped by with friends for some light drinking sometimes as well in the evening.
Good for small gathering.
but for ppl watching...not much to see. :P
Overall i rate it like this
Location - Kind of out of place ( bad if you don drive, but good if you want to be away from the crowd )
Food - Good quality food at reasonable price ( did not try the ramen cos i am not a noodle person, so my good is on the other type of food stated above )
Ambience - I like it alot, reminds me of my visit to 居酒屋 in Japan.
Service - Understaff at times, but overall ok, boss will mingle and drink with us if it is not crowded. Waitress can be more attentive and more well verse in what they are selling.
Hope my first review helps.Must Tries

Something "not" so ordinary
Mar 10, 2009working nearby..thought of trying something new for dinner rather than kopitiam food.
ordered:
sashimi - yellowtail, salmon, swordfish (very fresh)
sushi - unagi (totally amazing..melt in your mouth), inari (not bad)
yakitori - ok
pork yaki - ok
enoki niku maki - ok
spicy ramen (recommended by the waitress) - same as previous reviewer..BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!..not only tasteless..rather too spicy..
ambience:
tatami style for certain seats
pretty cramp (accomodate 2 tatami style seats - 4 each, 2 x 4 seaters, 2 x 2 seaters)
lighting not enough
Service: OK (try not to order food recommended by the China waitress..especially ramen)
overall:
Not bad for sashimi and sushi.Must Tries

So So Only...
Feb 10, 2009Been there for lunch today after reading about it on HGW.
Ordered following;
1) Sashimi - 3 kinds. Served Salmon, Yellow Tail & Swordfish.
Freshness - pretty good.
Salmon & Yellow Tail taste great.
Swordfish - Wrong cut!! got some very tought bits within the sashimi!!
Spoil the whole dish.
2) Sushi - Salmon, Yellow Tail, Tuna, Unagi.
Enjoyed the Sushi!! Good Unagi Sushi!!
3) Yaki Tori - OK, but would be great if it have a bit of burned, toasted taste on the outside...
4) Black Pork yaki - OK, but will be perfect if a bit more toasted.
5) Japanese Loh Bak - taste good. Was a bit disappointed as the pork doesn't come with skin.
6) Grill Salmon Fish Head - Perfectly done!!
7) Mixed Tempura - Very normal...
8) Spicy Ramen - Big disappionment.... Tasteless, Ended up adding the Japanese Loh Bak gravy into the Ramen!!
Place is small as per previous review. Think owner should upgrade ventilation system!! My shirt still smell of food now.....
Service pretty good!
Price relatively o.k., spent $125 for the meal.I also recommend this place for

Nice find.
Dec 24, 2008Went to meet an overseas friend who stayed at Hotel Windsor on 16th Dec and decided to try this little japanese restaurant in the hotel as my friend does not want to go somewhere far. Well, the decor is nothing to shout about but it was cosy though. Asked the waitress what is good and she mentioned Yakitori and Sashimi. So we tried their yakitori (Asparagus wrapped with Bacon, Kuro buta, pork belly, cheese wrapped with Bacon and other stuffs) and found it really good. The standard sashimi like Salmon and Maguro were fresh at least but the Akagai and Sanma sashimi were something new to me though. The Akagai, japanese clam(huge!) was sweet and fresh while I never knew Sanma could be eaten as sashimi, which was nice! But the waitress said Sanma could be eaten as sashimi only during the season. Also tried their signature dish, some japanese "lor bak" thingy and it has become my favourite now, just the thought of it makes me salivate already, no joke. They said they have Kobe beef but i did not try as we did not want to overeat. Will definitely try on my next visit...hee....Must Tries
