After few bad experience of steak place or western dishes in the neighbourhood coffeeshop, there are bound to be some good ones around the corner. Lava Rock, can be categorize to be the good one.
Things to try: - Deep Fried Golden Mushroom - the dish that made famous by TGI Friday. It is lightly coated with bread crumbs, nicely deep fried and sprinkle with cheese to finish up. When you bite it, its crispy on the outside and you will experience the mushroom juice explode in your mouth.
- The steaks. We ordered different variety, from sirloin to BP Marble beef Australia. All cooked to perfection base on how we like our meat. For those that ever cooked steak before, they will know that the steak are best when it has been allowed to rest after grilling. So when they serve the steak in hot plate, I thought they will over cooked the steak, luckily they put enough onions in between the hot plate and meat, so the steak manage to rest before we dig into it.
All I can say is the price of the steak really make the difference. The Sirloin and Rib Eye, priced at $15.80 & $17.90 respectively are good, but the BP Marble Beef priced at $28.90 is fantastic. The meat is juicy, tender and you will savor the meat texture in your mouth. Each order come with 3 sides, you can choose from: Baked Potato, Fries, Hot Mashed potatoes, creamy coleslaw, creamy pasta salad, creamy potato salad, butter corn, vegs with cheese.
Overall is quite good. Overall, Lava Rock is a good place to go for your quick fix of western food if you stay in the area. It will even be more value for money, if they can reduce the price by a few dollars on their high end steak. Atmosphere wise, hmm its a coffee-shop, so expect the older type of coffee-shop seating, a bit uncomfortable, but you'll be all right if you eat and go. Cheers :)
