i love this place!

i always come here to celebrate special occasions like anniversaries and birthdays.

i was first introduced to this place by a friend who used to work here when this restaurant was still located at waterloo street.

in the recent years, they relocated and is now situated at 26, Khandahar Street.

firstly, i love their bread, always hot and fresh from the oven, together with spread of their truffle butter, i often finish a whole loaf by myself!

a dish that i love here is definitely their grilled kurabuta pork cheeks, grilled to perfection, this is simply awesome! when i'm not here, i always have constant cravings for this.

another dish that left me pretty impressed is their wild mushroom rissotto, creamy, tasty enough for my liking.

recently, we also tried their grilled foie gras stuffed quail, as the name implies, foie gras is innovatively stuffed inside the quail which i find very unique and it tastes good too.

another dish worth mentioning is their sauteed fresh farm escargot, the gravy that comes with this is very addictive, and this dish also comes with crispy pastry.

chocolate lovers can try their molten chocolate cake, melted rich chocolate will ooze out from the centre of the cake!

i will be back again and again!

Must Tries: pork cheeks, escargot, rissotto

Le Pork de vie

The last of my b'day week feast couldn't have ended on a better gastronomical note. LPDV was the result of elimination after being offered a choice of italian, jap or french. While I know that whichever cuisine I picked, the restaurant choice by the date would have been a satisfying one, I figured I'll be a bit adventurous given that french cuisine doesn't feature very often on my list of places to try or have tried.

Having no idea where we were heading to but somewhat recognising the neighbourhood as my go-to for some nasi padang fix, I was surprised at the location of the restaurant amongst the less fancy counterparts. Contrary to it working against the perceived french haughtiness, I think it helps tone the snob factor down a few notches.
The intimidation comes from stepping into a completely empty restaurant with the wait staff ever so eager to serve and I reckon if he could, would have been quite happy spoon feeding us were we the only diners the whole evening. Was relieved to have shared the attention with 2 other tables later on.. not to mention not having to whisper our conversations lest we break a glass or something.

The menu offered a safe variety of european fare with something for everyone. Veal, fish, chicken and of course foie gras which was extremely tempting. I don't know which is a bigger sin, actually having foie gras or not having it in a french restaurant!

For starters, I had the smoked duck salad while the date opted for the scallops. The duck was absolutely succulent, juicy and the sprinkle of chopped walnut adds a nice complimentary nutty texture to the meat. While the date had a dig at me for missing out on all foods bovine, (I'm a non-beef eater) I was relishing my starter and thinking...who needs beef when I have such lovely duck ;)

On to the mains..it was an initial toss between the rack of lamb and duck confit. But the pork cheek was too hard to pass and I was completely happy with my choice. I know the best part of the fish is its cheek....no one told me the same applies to pigs! Credit to the chef perhaps rather than porky but the cheek was tender at the right places with a bit of a crunch at the edges. The sauce was a tad too tangy for my taste...I have a low threshold for sour things but still thoroughly enjoyed the dish. And my date whom i convinced should stick to the beef had the specials - rib eye steak which was a rather generous portion and he was happily satisfied from the first bite.

And for sweets, it was an easy choice with chocolate molten cake for me and Lychee + Passion fruit creme brulee for my friend since we're fans of each respectively. The chocolate cake was predictably good for me. The creme brulee tasted more lychee-ish and since the date chowed it down pretty quick, I'll take it as a good indication on the yum factor.

Some might call the place intimate but I reckon the tables might be a bit too close for comfort on a popular day.

New menu new Chef going to a new location

Heard they are moving somewhere in July to a new location and had to give this place a try.
The menu had a good spread of dishes. Some of the highly recommended dishes Truffle Cheese Souffle, Sauted Black Mussels with Chopped Tomato, Marinated Lamb Rack, Seafood Symphony Champagne Sauce, Grill Quail with Foie Gras Stuffing, Bailey's Cheese Cake, Apple Rhubarb Crumble left us wanting more. Will have to return and try the other dishes. Unpretentious and attentive place to hang out.
My friends and I had a wonderful time and looking forward to their new location at Kandahar St.

A Rarity

As a person trying a new restaurant, I am always incline to leave the recommendations to the staff, The decisions have proven effective everytime unless I am on a dietary regime that day.
Our meal:
Snapper Escabech
Poached Oysters
Duck Confit with Broad Bean Cassoulet
Fig and Grapefruit Gratin
Starters was lovely, mains robust and dessert yummy. What surprised me was the wine they suggested from their house selection was far less than my meal and it tasted so good (full of flavor and body) for the price. Had a peek thru their entire list and I must confess, the prices are decent unlike those restaurant that have only wines starting from XXX. I am no expert but it still lingers in my mind.
One sad thing is that the restaurant was only a quarter full. It deserves more attention as a place to bring a special someone. Staff is always at hand to help without being obtrusive or pushy....I hate those who always seems to suggest everything expensive and one thing I despise the most is those who only serves mineral water.
There is a comfortable outdoor area which I gave amiss but will return to have a glass of wine someday. Being somewhat of a quiet night the restaurant did not slack at all. This is definitely one I will return, albeit all the past reviews I read.

Must Tries: Pork, Duck Confit

safe bet for special occasion

I'm not the type who would spend $100 for fancy meals, but it was special occasion and my wife loves french food. Based on reviews, this place seemed like a safe bet for service and ambience at least.

The setting is quiet and intimate - there are only about ten tables in the restaurant. There's also a nice little courtyard in the front with a small bar. The staff are completely approachable and professional, they are also utterly unobtrusive which was great for us. A tip - go with staff recommendations on food and wine.

For starters, we had the veal sweetbreads which I'm told they bake themselves and escargot. sweetbreads are good, pass on the escargot.

For main dishes, we had the pork, which was very succulent especially for European restaurant. But the venison wrapped in bacon was a bit too salty and the dish overall too jelat.

For dessert, we shared pecan pie. I'm not into sweets but even I could tell this was good, and my wife absolutely loved it.

Overall, the food was good, but not great and the bill was lower than I expected for a place like this. And like the reviews said, if you're willing to pay for great atmosphere and service, this is it.
