| Unglam but just come for the crabs!
Been there twice. The first was a supplier sponsered lunch ages ago, and the second was Mother's Day dinner last Sunday. Anyway, the location is really super unglam lah, so let's not talk about ambience ok? Standard Chinese restaurant with aircon, lots of round tables, PRC waitresses in black and white uniform. 2 LCD TVs switched to Channel 8 for 'entertainment'.
The cold crab is a must try! I had it both times, and I love the sweet taste of plain fresh crab, and the way the meat just comes off cleanly from the shell. They have this chili sauce which you can dip it in, which is quite nice too.
We had a braised vegetable - which was so soft and flavourful. One of the best veggie dishes I've tried. (Aiyah, eat seafood dinner standard veggie is Fried veggie in oyster sauce/garlic/belacan right...at least this is different)
Beef roll with enoki mushroom - ok only.
Foo-chow fishball soup - the pork stuffing inside is too salty and they are too heavy handed with the sesame oil.
Mini-buddha jumps over the wall - nice juicy abalone, but the rest is just 'standard'
Foo-chow noodle - It's thick noodles with this black sauce with seafood and vegetables...I thought it was a bit too salty, but I think it's not too bad...
Service wise was quite ok, there was more than enough staff to go around, and they do come and pour tea, refill hot water even without asking. The waitress who recommended the dishes knew her stuff, and knew how to 'agar' and will stop you from ordering more than you can finish, which is always nice. |

| CNY Company Lunch
Just had the company lunch in the afternoon.
We had:
1) Yu Sheng - they gave 3 plates of raw fish. The Yu Sheng wasn't "sweet" enough
2) Sharks fin - funny thing, this the first time I eat shark's fin where the colour of the soup is almost clear!
3) Pork ribs - taste abit herbal, not much meat, not fantastic
4) Black hair (don't know the official name lah) + mussels - didn't eat the dried mussels but the black hair was okay.
5) Steam prawns - 2 of my colleague encountered prawns which weren't very fresh but those that I ate were fresh
6) Roast chicken - colour was lighter than USUAL. Abit salty.
7) Steam promfet - very fresh. Best dish
8) Orh nee - abit too sweet for my liking
9) Mee Sua - Eh...nothing fantastic
We started around 12.45pm, ended only around 2.30pm. Service was slow, we had to remind the waitresses at least 2 times each time we needed something.
Do not know actual price except it's around $400+ per table. |

| Try cold crabs @ it's best
I never really like crabs as they were either cooked with either Pepper or Chili. Which basically "kills" the crabs' "taste".
Otherwise they will be steamed with ginger & spring onions...
Still, if not done well, tastes horrible.
(I have this thing about sea food that is not fresh, and most if not all of my friends knows this)
Anyway, this place has one of the best, cold crabs that I have ever tasted.
*Tastes super with their chili... can't get this else where.
& Look @ the prawn rolls.
& the spare ribs. (This is the next best thing to the spare ribs from Kulai that I love so much)
The fried Mee Sua is a must try!
My wife loves the Hokkien Mee
The Fu Chow Fishball is hand made in store.
The dumplings skins are made from fish.
And the "Oor Knee" is one of the best that I have ever had.
*Where can you find lumpy oor knee? The lumpyness shows that this is the real stuff, not powdered pre-mixes.
As for the ambiance... well... it's located @ the AML, can't really expect much from it.
Value... Well... recently, the prices juz went up and it's alittle pricey now.
But if you value good food. It's a must try.
Service, not too bad, most of the time, someone is refilling my cup of tea.
:)
Accessability is also quite good as the place is quite quiet @ night and you can park right in front of the restaurant which is just @ the entrance of the building. |
