This raised bar in Carlton is the place to switch off after work. Set in a very busy hotel lobby, raising it by a couple of steps sets it at a higher plane, allowing the drinker to watch the world go by. Many beautiful people come to Carlton too, perhaps for the Chinese seafood and the café.
Reservation: Not needed, not as crowded as other pubs.
Beverage: Standard fare, good snacks provided, finger food served during happy hour. If you do not know the standard price for a beer is not about $18 before discount – so if you want to drink lots – go to a pub or better still drink at a coffee shop.
Ambience: Quiet in that area, but noisy in other parts of the lobby. During a visit in early 2007, I found the airconditioning set too hot. Beer drinking must be accompanied by a really cold atmosphere – check out the one in Circular road.
Value: Reasonable during Happy Hour, unreasonable other times.
Service: Hostesses helpful and pleasant, they do not eyeball you when you nurse one beer for the whole night!!
