A gem at hawker center price compared to atas Chatterbox, Boon Tong Kee, Wee Nam Kee and Five stars. $3 for a decent lunch of chicken rice here, is well spent. Cheap & good. Take my word for it. Definitely value for money.
What surprises me was at $2, it scored an A+ in terms of presentation; the chicken is served separately + standard plate of rice + a bowl of soup. (usually, $2 per plate of chicken rice will be not be served this way, right?)
We ordered half a chicken to share among the 3 of us, 3 plates of rice & 2 of us went for second helping of rice. :P
At some places, you get good chicken but crappy rice while at other places, you get decent rice, but the chicken is just average. When you have great chicken & great rice, the final hurdle to a divine chicken rice meal is the chilli, ginger & dark sauce. On top of it, the simple clear chicken broth turned out to be a delightful soup as well. This place has it all!
The half white chicken (approx. $10) was fresh & moist in most parts, including the breast meat. Tender, soft, smooth & succulent. What looked like a simple dash of light brown gravy on the chicken made it simply delicious! Probably some "secret recipe".
The rice was aromatic & full flavoured, especially fragrant when served piping hot. It was a wonderful companion for the delicious white chicken. Grainy & tastes so good. I like the rice so much, I can't resist going for a second helping. I can have the rice alone without any chicken meat. Simply yummy!
The refreshing citrus flavored chilli sauce complimented the chicken & rice well with appropriate spiciness too.
Lunch crowd queue was pretty long at this stall but the uncle was super duper fast so the people move relatively quickly. Service wise, its a hawker center, mind you, so read:"self-service"... but anyhow the uncle was humble & smiles warmly to his customers.
If you are around the area, why not give it a try? I don't think you will be disappointed. For me, I will definitely be returning.
