| Nice To Hang Out
Upon entering, one would find a nice old Japanese lady greeting you in her limited mandarin. That's the (grand)mama, and this is her bakery.
Located at the second floor of Novena Square Two, this Japanese place sticks out in a surrounding of mostly Korean themed outlets.
I have tried the popular chocolate bread and the coffee but they do not excite me as much and I cannot see how the bakery here stands out from the rest of the common street bakeries that one would find in Singapore. However, the one area where it does stand out is that the place offers a nice patio where one can sit and chill if the weather permits - a great way to spend a Saturday morning.
Service is inconsistent. Other than the cheerful mama, many of the other staff look lost at times. |

| pan
Finally gotten around there yesterday evening. The bakery is quite big by the standard of Square2. Every other shops felt quite cramp at that level. The bread selection wasn't terribly much. But probably because it was towards the end of the day whereby everything should be depleting.
'Mama' was there and it was quite nice to hear Japanese floating around the shop as Mama was discussing something with her staff. There were guests seated inside for coffee as well.
So bought some breads home to try. Counter staff was friendly and she'll recommend the best-sellers to you in case you're abit lost in there. So I ended up with curry lobster, cranberry cream cheese, poached pear, an pan, and melon pan. Total damage $7.20.
Melon pan, can skip. Because there's no filling inside. Just at the surface of the bun but then it tasted like those mexican bun elsewhere, so nothing special.
Cranberry cream cheese was wonderful! Cream cheese was light, cranberries were juicy and bread was soft. |

| Not your average bakery
I go to this place for a nice, solitary breakfast alot on Sundays!
All their breads are seriously DELICIOUS enticing, delicious and reasonably priced! It has a strange effect on passers-by... people cannot resist but to stop by and buy something back!!!
I love their cheese scone best, it's not too heavy and tastes perfect with a cup of hot tea!
Try their green tea red bean bun too, seriously, there is so much filling!! They are very generous with that! It is not too sweet and the texture is lovely.
I heard they are famous for their 'chocolate bowl', but've not actually tried it. Judging from the number of thumbs-up comments though, I'm already convinced that it's delicious.
Not forgetting their comfy setting for you to enjoy some alfresco yet affordable teawith families and friends.
Their stuff are usually all sold out by 7pm... so be there early to taste a huge variety of fresh bread! They have the most unique of flavors and fillings. The Japanese lady boss and staff never fail to put a smile on my face with her very kind service.
EXCELLENT PLACE! |

| A little piece of heaven
My favourite part of this bakery is the outdoor seating with a lovely green view and the soft almost meditative sound of the waterfalls to one side.
Coupled with a whole loaf of Mama's famous dark chocolate bread (yes all to myself), a good book and a comforting pot of tea...its a little piece of heaven. |

| Cute little bakery with yummy breads.
This place is cute. I swear, the thing tt wins me over is the dear elderly Japanese lady behind the counter. She doesn't speak much English (I found out she was Japanese only because I tried to ask her in English and and she replied me in Japanese, and both of us were confused), but she's really sweet. She's very enthusiastic, and she greets and thanks everyone when they queue up at the counter. Really warms your heart.
But tt being said, the bread here - at least the ones I bought - are pretty yummy too. I got the raisin walnut roll, and small and unassuming as it is, it's delicious! The an pan, the cranberry cream cheese and the chocolate bowl are really also very yummy; nice and soft in texture, with intense tasty flavours. Good stuff. Definitely enough to make me want to come back to try more breads. |
