| Oldies preferred
Dining at Margarita is a very strange experience. Faber Drive is not exactly like a restaurant district. It is like dining at your neighbourbood diner being in the middle of a quiet hosuing area.
It was suprising quiet for a saturday nite, when we arrived, there were like 15 other diners there at most. Maybe the economy is really hitting home.
Of course we started with the Margaritas (strawberry), which was as usual fantastic though it could be a little stronger for almost $64 a pitcher. Ok, gonna let you in on a little secret here. Margarita's serves a fantastic appetizer of sauteed portobello mushrooms that is not on the menu anywhere. It is fantastic. My all time favourite dish at Margarita.
For the main, I had the ribs and my wife the mixed Fajita's, the dishes at Margarita's are huge. So although the price is rather high, it equals out in that manner. And it is not just the quantity here, the quality is fantastic too. My suggestion to a regular couple would be to order a main and a torilla dish such as a chimichanga to share. We were rather stuff at the end and had no room for desserts.
However, some pointers which I am hoping Margarita's can improve upon. The salsa and chips ought to be given as a starter, I mean at other restaurants, one is served bread and such so why not at Margarita's too. Furthermore, for our Fajita's we had asked for additional salsa but were informed that there is an additional charge on that, I mean the initial bowl of salsa was not really the biggest. And finally, a Mexican restaurant need not be playing Enrique Iglesias throughtout....
Anyway, in conclusion, I like Margarita's (never been to the one at Dempsey so not sure abt that) but there could be area of improvement. Main draw remains the quaint location and the good solid mexican fare available. |

| Excellent authentic Mexican for the discerning (and not price-conscious)
Margarita's is divine Mexican food. Try the Mole Poblano (chicken in chocolate gravy) if you really want to taste how authentic and detailed their cooking is. After eating at Margs, I have never wanted to go back to any of the old Mex restos I used to eat at. I have never been disappointed by anything I've had in this restaurant. We normally spend a lot as even the mains costs 40+ and you definitely want to try the soups and appetisers before that. The good news is you never feel guilty because their portions are huge, the food is unequivocally delicious and you always leave with that awesome satisfied feeling. TWO THUMBS UP!
p.s. the margaritas (the drinks) are obviously amazing, many many flavours to choose from, yayyy! |

| Great mexican food, but pricey
The food was really good, but a little expensive. The out of the way location is also a downside.
We ordered the Kitchen Sink Burrito ($20.90++) and the Beef Chimichangas ($19.90++ if I remember correctly), as well as the Grand Margarita, Strawberry Margarita (both $15.90++) and chips + salsa for starters.
Both the Kitchen Sink Burrito which comes packed with "everything but the kitchen sink" - refried beans, cheese, beef, chicken and topped with delicious guacamole and jalapenos, and the Chimis, which were filled with cheese and beef, topped with guacamole and comes with rice on the side, were delicious. The portions are also generously sized. We also did not have to wait long for our food.
The chips and salsa were great for starters as well. The chips were served warm and crunchy and the salsa was delicious. My companion felt it was too spicy, though.
The Margaritas are generously alcoholic, although their signature Grand Margarita, which was a lime margarita, was a tad too strong for my liking and tasted too much like tequila (lime, salt and tequila = a tequila shot, right? :S). My companion liked it though. I preferred my Strawberry Margarita, which still packs a punch even though it is generously fruity.
All in all, will definitely be back here in the future for more Mexican food. |

| Nice, quiet place for meals
I have been to Margarita's many times previously. This is one nice decent place to check out if you want to avoid the crowd on a weekday evening.
I had dinner with 3 other friends yesterday. Food was good although it seem alittle pricey. Service staff was quiet and polite generally. We shared 2 appetizers and 2 main courses. The portions are not that big but somehow very filling. For drinks, we had peach & honey which was just right for us - not too sweet but yet refreshing.
This is one nice place to go for dates or business lunches when you are in the West side of Singapore. |

| Best Mexican I've Had in Singapore
We made the trek over to Faber Drive from the Orchard area based on the reviews here at Hungrygowhere.com.
We weren't disappointed.
Atmosphere reeks Mexican: blue walls, tiled tables, carved wood chairs. All they need is the was chili pepper lights and sombrero-wearing waitresses. The indoor temperature is above glacial, which is good as there's no outdoor seating.
The salsa was very tasty. Chips good: thick and crunchy and not too greasy. Guacamole was authentic, though could have used a bit more cumin in my opinion. I had the carnitas, a huge incredibly tasty portion of braised pork. I couldn't place the spice, but it worked. They came with warm corn tortillas, an even richer salsa sauce and a side of guacamole. The chicken fajitas were also top notch.
The margaritas were decent. Not amazing, but certainly good enough to round out a perfect Mexican meal.
The service was very friendly, though as with many restaurants here in Singapore we had to flag down our waitress every now and then. Not something that would prevent me from returning.
The only downside is that the food is expensive. We had 4 margaritas and a beer, three entrees, a starter of guacamole and a side of beans and rice and a dessert we shared. Total was S$260. Yow!
All-in-all I rate this far above North of the Border and Cafe Iguana. I'll try Margaritas in Dempsey Road next time so I can put the cab fare towards a few extra margaritas. |
