| Wat a delightful little find!
Yum yum korean charcoal BBQ with juicy fat beef and sizzling pork belly!! Located along T.Pagar road it's easy to go huh? which one? esp when there's a ton of korean restaurants dotted along e stretch.. but no worries.. juz go along with e shop number n u will find e place! (nearer to neil road)
Opened by Koreans.. e guy boss of this relatively unknown resto is this real frenly chap who seems real happy n high (haha no offence but it's so un-korean if u get wat i mean.. tink jap hehe) tat his enthusiam can b felt from e moment i called to make a reservation to when i'm placing orders.. e lady boss on e other hand is erm stern n fierce - looking (erm very korean if u get wat i mean haha).. e wait staff is mostly from e philippines n is definitely better than ahem e cheenas.. e dinner crowd is mostly koreans (in fact we r e oni sporean table!) n tat muz speak volumes for e authenticity of e food here!
The shop is surprisingly beautifully decorated with chic n modern in mind... forget abt typical korean restaurants and tink black furniture with white walls n a stunning glass cabinet display n lighting! there's even an upstairs where a hugh group of young koreans were having fun!..
The variety of food is pretty good from e BBQ meats with beef to pork to chicken.. e stir-fry such as bulgogi .. e standard korean fare of bibimbap n seafood pancake to steamboat or casserole... prices range from e 20s to the 30s... The appetizers were not as extensive as say jang shou with juz 6-8 n is actually not tat appetizing nor exciting..
First up we had e bulgogi beef ($22).. this is wonderful! instead of stir-frying in front of us they decided to do it in e kitchen which is fine coz it's real yummy! oni grump is tat it's not served in hot pot so it got cold quickly but it's very flavourful n it goes great with e rice! this is one of e best bulgogi beef i've had!
Next we had e US prime pork belly ($25).. juz 5 slices of e pork belly seems a bit pricey but when it's cut up into smaller pieces it dun look so bad.. wrapping it in e lettuce is a great idea coz e crispiness n e slight oilyness of e pork belly is balance out nicely... not a fan of pork belly so can't say if this is fantastic but it sure is not too bad!
The marinated US prime short ribs without bones ($35) is juz sooooooo succulent n juicy n delicious! this is YUM! it's so yummy to pop one into e mouth! do not over cook it though so tat it still retains e juices n tenderness.. it goes well with rice on its own or juz wrap it up n pop it in! i dun normally use e green chilli or garlic provided coz i tink it will ruin e taste (too many flavours la) but tat's juz me...the beef is quite thick n is a good portion so very well worth e price tag! it comes with a steam egg as well...
Lastly we had e casserole ($30).. we chose e one with ham n sausages n rice cakes n mushrooms n tang hoon n ramen in a kimchi soup base.. e charcoal grill is now transformed into e gas version so tat we have a steamboat going on! e soup is flavourful not too too spicy n is quite tasty! it's quite a big pot / plate so it's totally worth it! by the end of e meal... e 4 of us r soooooooo full!!
Overall It's a good n lovely meal in a chic korean joint.. the beef dishes r real good n e casserole is a hit.. ..but e appetizers is a miss.. do give this place a try! |

| One of the Best Customer Service
We had a hard time finding the place since there was a few Korean restaurant along the same stretch of street. What differential it from the rest was the bright color sign board that was placed on the pillar and the well lighted signboard.
Once you step near the door you are most likely welcome by a friendly Korean chap and when you step in you be hit by the smell of charcoal meat on the grill. This a place that meat lover would love. since once you open the menu you be looking at nothing but pictures of meat and more meat. we order 6 plates of meat covering from beef to chicken and one "steamboat".
After the order for meat was place the side dish will arrived there were around 8 side dish. something unusual was steam egg serve in a small pot.when the plates of meat arrive. the polite staff will start to BBQ the food for you or start stir frying the meat. they used 2 different under-pans for stir-frying and BBQ. General the meat was quite nice do try the pork belly once they are probably BBQ. the taste is nice especially with the crispy skin.we had order one steamboat and was quite surprise that it manage to server a small bowl for 7 ppl.
After the meal was over we were serve a Korean Cinnamon tea with a hint of ginger . Some people may find the smell to strong but overall it has a pleasant taste of ginger that clears the palettes after a meal.
overall the food was common nothing out of the ordinary but they make up for it with their excellent customer service. do make a reservation before going. even on a weekday most of the tables are filled up |

| What's in a name?
Funny thing is when my bf and I came here, we didn't see the name "Mee Doo" on the door. It was something else. The Korean characters were bigger than the English translation, so I didn't really catch the former. Same address though.
If this is the right place, then it is worth a visit. Hey, you can't go too far wrong with a restarant run by people who apparently speak Korean, right?
The place is nice and clean and comfortable, and the food's pretty good. Happily, probably the best Korean restaurant I've eaten at in Singapore (although admittedly I haven't eaten at all that many).
First thing you gotta try - the marinated beef short rib. Sure, at $38 for approx 260 g (bone in) it is kinda steep. But oh the meat is so good. So tender, yet with that beefy bite, and I love the sweet taste of the marinade. And they grill it for you over charcoal, so you do get that smoky taste. Mmm.
Another thing to order (although the bf and I have realised that this works better in countries with Winter seasons, as opposed to tropical Singapore) is the casserole ($30 for a small, and $40 for a large). You get a huge pot consisting of ham, sausage, beancurd, shitake mushrooms, rice cakes, crystal vermicelli, ramen and assorted vegetables in a rich, spicy kimchi flavoured broth. Robust and flavourful - perfect for keeping the cold away. Or simply for a hearty meal. May however be a little heavy for a warm night, though.
And of course, the meal isn't complete with the assortment of little side dishes. You've got salad, spinach, kimchi (naturally), steamed egg (comes with the BBQ beef rib), lotus root, pickled radish... and probably more items that I cannot name.
Finally, service here is amazing. Our waitress was attentive and did everything for us, from cook our beef to dish out soup from our casserole to both of us. And she was warm and friendly, and went to extra step to really pamper the both of us. It came to the extent that I actually felt bad about it.
You just can't go wrong with this place for Korean food. Definitely worth re-visiting. Just watch the name... they changed it. |
