Decent food, yummy desserts

My partner is a fan and that's why I'm always there. Been there on a few occasions and will summarise it all together, so this is going to be a long review.

First of all, no meal at Miss Clarity is complete without their delicious desserts, but first, I will talk about the food.

1. Chicken/Fish Cordon Bleu (~$9.80)
One of the more yummy dishes here. Very nicely fried and the accompanying sauce goes really well with the chicken/fish.

2. Chicken Leg (~$13.80?)
Pretty nice but you have to be a garlic lover. I'm not. The mushroom sauce which was poured over the chicken as full of garlic. Gave up after a while as the garlic got too much for me.

3. Seafood Paella (~$15.80)
Not bad. Has the consistency of Mui Fan you get from coffee shops. I thought Paella was supposed to be drier? Taste like some kind of seafood sauce with tomato.

In all, the food was IMHO a bit better than average. Now for the exciting part, Desserts!!!!

1. Chocolate Digestive bar (~$4.50)
This consists of very thick chocolate fudge on top of a digestive bar. I thought this was a bit steep considering some of the cooked desserts were cheaper. Tastes like a super thick chocolate coated digestive bar.

2. Mud Ooze ($5.80)
This is essentially warm chocolate cake. It is chocolate caked baked in a cup with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. It's called mud ooze beacuse thick and dark chocolate OOZES out when you dig your spoon in. This is my partner's favourite dessert. Delicious but perhaps the management can consider using better quality vanilla ice cream? Luckily the chocolate more than makes up for it.

3. Banana Tart ($5.80)
Absolutely YUMMY!!! My personal fav. =) A small baked tart filled with bananas accompanied with a scoop of ice cream (chocolate/vanilla). My advice is to choose chocolate as the Vanilla has a very weird and artificial flavour that tastes nothing like normal vanilla.

4. Creme Brulee ($3.80)
Flavours for this dessert is always changing depending on the day of the week. I tried the Cappuccino flavoured one and taste wise was above average. However, it's a bit hard of creme brulee. Normal creme brulee has the consistency of Chawan Mushi. However, this one was more like a pudding. That said, it was still, nice, smooth and creamy.

Must Tries: Chicken Cordon Bleu, Banana Tart, Mud Ooze

Average price, average food

There’s something abt this place that draws you back.

Food
The food is good but I wouldn’t rank it anyway near the top. A personal fav is definitely the starter Mambo Jumbo Fries! (and prob one of the main factor that keeps me going back)
The desserts are quite disappointing for me. I went with a bit higher expectations especially after the reviews on it. But it was a let down. And personally you can just give the mediocre desserts a miss.

Service
The staff are friendly and attentive to your requests. Nothing extra special to comment about.

Ambience
The place in general is very casual and inviting. However the colour theme and deco may put some people off. All pink and girly is not exactly what I will pick for an eatery. Plus I feel the place can do with better lighting. It gets a bit too dark for my liking even during the day and it tends to get a little gloomy.

Hot pink hurts my eye!

Okay, for a girl who absolutely loves propping a book up her knees in her PINK room (with Hello Kitty some more!), I should love hanging out at Miss Clarity's, right? What with neon colours and cheer plus good vibes bursting out the menu and bouncing off the walls!

Wrong.

I hate it.

Here we go - Ambience:
After looking down at the menu for a couple minutes, my eyes hurt. I don't know where to look at anymore. Everything's just screaming for attention.

If I haven't made it clear, I'd say it again: I do not like the menu.

It is not easy to read.

While the decor is certainly not my thing, I will be the unbiased reviewer I am and grade it "almost 6" for the effort in making everything blend and match with good cheer together. That does not mean a "6" at this place equates to a "6" at another place I grade. I grade ambience according to how relevant it looks for the name of the food establishment.

Service:
Staff is accommodating, courteous and smiley.

What I also noticed:
Overheard a customer comment that it was too cold and the waitress very kindly attempted to adjust the temperature.

What we ordered:
French Onion Soup and tea. It was a cold day. We wanted to have better dinner elsewhere so Miss Clarity's was just a pit stop for hot soup on a chilly day after our dog shop pit stop.

How can we go wrong with French Onion Soup when the chef is supposedly, in black and white, (oops, could be in pink or green) trained in French fare, right?

WRONG AGAIN.

The French Onion Soup is disgustingly sweet. I didn't even finish half the portion. In fact, it DAMAGED my appetite for a proper dinner that evening.

I was dizzy because of the menu, the decor, the soup....

You can ask me again if I like this place.

Memorable for kids

When I brought my 2 nieces there, it was love at first sight. They loved the pink walls and the cute posters. With the wide selection of entrees and dessert, it was a great place for families. The staff were friendly and patient with our requests.

Banger and mash was nicely done and the grilled salmon was surprisingly fresh and not fishy. The only disappointment was that the beef baked rice which was too salty. This was redeemed by the mud ooze which was heavenly. It's a chocolate filled cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top, what can be better than chocolate and ice cream. To top this off, all prices were nett.

Meh...

Forget my previous wishy-washy review. I did a re-visit after deciding that I wanted some meat for dinner. I sat down and ordered a chicken ballotine. Service from the two possibly-Filippino or Indonesian staff was pleasant.

The serving of chicken was a reasonable size, it was hot and stuffed with yummy mushrooms. The chicken, though tender, was salty and a bit dry. The bed of pan-fried potatoes and cabbage was alright, not watery or mushy. That was the only dish I ordered.

I was hungry 90 minutes after I left. The price was just about reasonable though I'll order something else next time around.
