| eh why so salty
walked into Muthu's around 730pm and while it was relatively crowded, we managed to be seated within 5mins. Dad actually chose this place for its fish head curry but at the end of this meal, we conclude that there're better ones out there..
Orders round 1
1) fish head curry in small $20 - enough for 3, mediocre
2) chicken masala - sauce tasted sweet initially, but it gets saltier with every mouthful.. not too sure if it's a good thing. meat is tender!
3) fish tikka - this dish never appeared.. mom reasoned that the waiter must have thought that the rest of food was enough for us.. eh?
4) prawn 65 - asked for recommendations and this is what i got.. and it was good! 10 small deshelled prawns fried in spices. tasty but gets a tad too salty
5) plain rice that comes with papadum for the folks
6) plain naan x2 for me - not bad! served warm and toasty albeit a lil small
7) lime juice x2
Orders round 2
1) another naan for me to mop up the sauces - it arrived warm but flaccid.. the first two were better :(
2) lime margarita - w/o alcohol anyway but 3 of us couldnt finish it.. perhaps i should have ordered it at the start of the meal..
3) baby (something something) with kulfi - unable to recall the actual name but it's the only thing that starts with baby under desserts. essentially 2 small but dense fried dough balls served with condensed milk and plain kulfi(ice cream). kulfi tasted like iced condensed milk too though, is it supposed to be that way? overwhelmingly sweet but we managed to finish it up after the strongly flavoured meal.
food was decent but not anything i would crave anytime soon. Spied others eating big shelled prawns and even crabs, looks good! Ambience was loud and vibrant with staff even gathering to sing a traditional birthday song for the birthday fella.. cute.
However, noticed that they have the tendency not to clear the tables until the end of the meal, which leaves the table rather cluttered with empty and disappearing dishes throughout the meal.
mmm.. off for my third glass of water now.. |

| Decent food
Been to muthu's for a few times. Always eat the same stuffs
1. Fish head curry
2. Naan
3. Chicken masala
4. Chicken tikka
5. Mango Lassi
I will have the basmati briyani rice too. Good with the curry.
Overall, ok lah, better than banana leaf. Dishes at banana leaf is too salty for me.
Wait staff at Muthu's sometimes do not understand what you want and sometimes forgets what you want while other times did not get for you what you want. |

| A decent place for a curry fix
More than 6 curry dinners in the past few months at various curry restaurants, thanks to my gf.
Muthu's is quite a good place for decent curry fare at very decent prices. What i really like about the place is the clear menu and clean environment. Some Indian restaurants can be a bit dodgy in terms of cleanliness and very obscure menu.
Did someone mentioned that they use PDA to take the orders yet?
Food as said earlier is decent but not spectacular, however we do like the masala sauce with prawns. Very good dip for the naans. The green spinach thingy is not so good here. Average tandoori and meats as well.
There's no ambience to speak of as you may have noticed that curry seems to be quite a communal form of dining? Whole group of friends/colleagues and families can be found here at dinner time. Can be a little noisy.
Price-wise i have no complains. Expect about 25-30 / pax only.
Service-wise, it depends. On crowded nights, you need to make yourself heard a couple of times or wave your arms madly to get attention. |

| Great Fish Head Curry
I had never liked Indian food but my first visit to Muthu's curry changed my view. The food that I liked best is the fish head curry. Not too spicy or too thick curry gravy. It was just the right taste for me. However, the portion was a bit little. Choices of beverages are also limited. |

| Muthu's Curry @ Race Course Road
An Indian curry fish head place at Race Course Road, recommended by a colleague who couldn't recall the name turned out to be Muthu's Curry. This main outlet of the restaurant turns out to be rather spacious in comparison to the one at Suntec which I've had lunch at on a couple of occasion in terms of floor estate and despite that, claims a full house of customers. Since curry fish head was the objective of dinner, it was a good opportunity for me to do some comparison between both branches.
Apart from the black squid which was suppose to be an outlet specialty not available elsewhere, the other items were pretty much very standard offerings of Indian cuisine which we had. The feel is that, the food here generally didn't generate the same amount of satisfaction level as the outlet at Suntec. My personal note on it amounts to some minor criticism. I think the fish head had to little meat for a large portion and the briyani lacks the fragrance which I was expecting. It was almost like having just plain basmati rice which probably might have been a better idea in this case. There's really nothing to the black squid that makes it outstanding even though it didn't taste too bad. And this time round, the palek paneer didn't have any noteable fragrance in the fried cheese which I was looking out for since I remember having that from Suntec. I'll probaby stick to the latter location the next time round. Seriously, I think little things like this count and this looks to me like compromises in cooking standards or just plain negligence.
