Mykii (pronounced “mee-kai”) is inspired by the highly popular Greek island Mykonos and the phonetic of “sky”. This is evident in the beautifully lit, white-washed stone wall facade, and the white and blue fittings on the inside. The décor is specially put together to create a refreshingly new ambience with a homey feel. With a total seating capacity of approximately 60, coupled with delightful chill-out jazzy tunes, it is the perfect venue for one to seek solace from the hustle and bustle of life.
Stepping into Mykii is like going on a short but fulfilling getaway. At Mykii, you get to indulge in “traveled cuisine”. The dishes are thoughtfully conceptualised and crafted with the theme of “getaway” in mind. With influences such as European, Asian, Middle Eastern and the Mediterranean, Mykii seeks to create a delectable twist to the renowned dishes from these regions with the aim of bringing pleasure to the palates of the diners, and at the same time, enabling them to reminisce their past holidays.
For those who have sweet teeth or simply want to quench their thirst, Mykii has a wide variety of desserts, petite pastries and beverages. There is a dessert bar where a whole range of petite pastries is enticingly displayed. For the tea and coffee connoisseurs, they can select from an interesting range of coffee and gourmet teas.
Mykii aims to reach out to people from all walks of life who just want a little time away, would like to catch-up with friends or just wants to taste something different.

addicted to brunch...
Jul 13, 2009white washed walls, clean and crisp looking uniforms, pleasant service.
my lady and i were making our way to amici for a late lunch on sunday when we passed by mykii. seen their ads on HGW very often, but somehow it never seems to register until i see the place physically.
though never really a "brunch" person, they were serving their "lazy brunch" at $38++ or $28++ per person (forgive me, i can't seem to remember) and it wasn't too packed, so we decided to give it a try.
mykii's current location was the previously one of the marmalade pantry outlets, which had very bad ventilation so i was rather skeptical when we went in. But voila~, they have definitely improved the air flow in the place, though the table that we were seated in was rather warm, even when there was a tower fan right next to the table.
now, the brunch...
for the price of.. erm.. $38? $28? it comes with:
- juice
- homemade bread
- eggs, salad, bacon, chipolata, tomato
- a choice of main
- pancakes with 2 options of syrup
- coffee or tea
this spread is ridiculous... IT'S TOO MUCH! not that i'm complaining. :)
when the bread came, the initial reaction i got was "eh.. such pitiful servings.." but after the dishes started arriving, i was grateful that the bread was minimal.
the eggs came with salad, bacon, chipolata and half a tomato. i tot that was my main course.. it is a lot! we actually struggled to finish the plate.. which we couldn't...
my lady had pasta, and i had the dory as our mains... pasta was good, dory was over-prepared... too hard on the crusts (yes, breaded dory)
My lady has a thing for pancakes and we were looking forward to it when we initially ordered. but by the time we finished (not finished.. couldn't finish) the main courses, there was absolutely no room for the even the coffee / tea, much less the pancakes.
opting to not stuff our faces, we told the staff that we are absolutely filled and it will not be physically possible for us to have the pancakes. (my lady, who lovessss pancakes, had to turn it down too.)
bottom line: good food, great value, pleasant service and a very lazy brunch... mykii has managed to create a habit out of me.
*where should i go for brunch next...*Must Tries

A charming blue oasis
Dec 22, 2008We were in the Holland village area and chanced upon Mykii, a new café / bistro type place that looks like it took over the Marmalade Pantry. Mykii is suppose to be inspired by the Greek island of Mykonos and I can sort of get that vibe in the café. The café has a washed out, bluish appearance with the service staff smartly clad in white overalls. The place is stylish and feels like the owner put a lot of effort into the look and feel. I almost feel like I’m teleported away on a holiday somewhere in the Mediterranean.
We were seated very quickly by a friendly young waiter, with a nice but somewhat awkward disposition. When we asked for recommendations, he didn’t seem sure about what was good to eat so we decided that it was probably better to go through the menu ourselves. We however found it hard to fault him as he looked like he had just stepped out of school and this was probably his first job.
We started with the Mezze platter, an appetizer of salmon, chickpeas and eggplant dips. The dips were excellent with the eggplant dip being my favorite. The dips came with a type of crispy flat bread and breadsticks. It went quite well with the dips but I would have preferred more variety of breads such as ciabatta or other softer breads to spread the tasty dips on.
For our mains, we had the Prawn Casserole in a Spicy Tomato Sauce and the Seafood Linguine with Laksa Pesto. The Prawn Casserole was presented very well in a nice piping hot orangey coloured casserole. The thick paste of tomato sauce that covered the rice was enticing to the eye and the prawns looked nice and succulent. Like the previous reviewer, I found the taste of the tomato a little too strong and the chef may want to take it down a notch or two. However, I could taste the spice quite evidently and this blended well with the sweetness of the prawns served. The underlying rice was a little too wet and could have been cooked out a little more to make it dryer.
The Seafood Linguine was served in a Korean like stone bowl, also piping hot. The linguine was done perfectly al dente. You could definitely taste the laksa pesto and for a brief moment, I thought I was having a bowl of laksa when I bit into the fish cake. A very interesting dish indeed and one I would recommend people who wouldn’t mind a fusionie type experience with their food.
We were too full to try their coffee and desserts which looked pretty good which we will save for another time.I also recommend this place for

i like granita
Feb 15, 2009When I first saw this place a few months back, I was very sceptical. There are hardly any decent eating places at Holland Village (the opposite side of the road doesn't count). I've always found the area more like a collection of drinking holes and coffee joints, catering to the happening crowd deep in bohemian Singapore. Which is a good thing sometimes.
I decided to give it a shot after seeing all the positive (well, no condemning) reviews here. Also, its a sponsor of HGW! The third push factor was a nasty run in with a thaipusam crowd on the way to dining near the serangoon area, which resulted in an ad-hoc change of location to Mykii.
I didn't step into the restaurant at all the entire evening. The alfresco area looked extremely pleasant, and although it has been rather muggy of late, the weather that evening demanded we savour it. The interior of the restaurant does look rather spacious, and I love the sky-blue and white colour scheme. Makes the place look very clean! A friend also commented, after dining there, that the predominantly white colour scheme is probably the most greek thing about Mykii other than the name.
The service was quite good, the waiters were attentive, and were quick to refill water glasses (which were provided for us without prompting). There was also co-ordination between the staff to produce our mains immediately after we were done with our starters.
For starters we ordered:
Pissaladiere, a signature dish, which was described to be an "open-faced provencale tart perfectly dressed with a healthy wholesome selection of roasted capsicums, anchovies, olives and onion jam." I didn't really like this. I detest anchovies and eat vegetables only out of necessity, which will probably only change if I ever get to eat at L'Arpège. For what its worth, my friends actually quite liked this, although I question their taste, as well as good sense in paying good money for a vegetable tart!
Mezze Platter, which was essentially 3 types of dip - eggplant, chickpea and salmon I believe, with 2 different types of bread - lavosh and grissini. Grissini is just the fancy term for breadsticks. Lavosh is round, thin and crisp. Both were suitable for the dip in taste and texture - slightly wheaty and very crisp. Both were extremely unsuitable for dipping in form, however. The breadsticks were simply too thin to scoop up any decent amount of dip with. Or maybe I'm just greedy. I barely managed to attain a pocky-like coating on the breadsticks. The lavosh presented a different problem. It's initial size means it has to be broken up for dipping. The dips come in little shot glasses. The lavosh doesn't break cleanly. Little chips break off the lavosh as you try to reduce it to a manageable size. Think cream crackers. My dining area had quite a bit of debris on it at the end of this course. The dips were quite good, however. Even the eggplant one. I think I am over my eggplant phobia. I really liked the salmon dip. It's a bit too troublesome a starter, however.
Mains:
Prawn Casserole In Spicy Tomato With Kaffir Leaf Pilaf came in a rather small portion, like blargh mentioned. My friend who ordered this was done about 5 minutes before I finished my food. It probably didn't help that I tried some of his food. The prawns were fresh enough, but didn't have the bounciness you get with really really fresh prawns. Everything went rather well with the tomato sauce, but considering that the rice is supposed to taste special (Kaffir leaf etc), I felt that the tomato sauce overwhelmed the entire dish. It was rather nice, I suppose, but I'd had enough of tomato because of my main.
Pot Roasted Chicken With Almond & Olive Pilaf was what I had. It was essentially a large piece of chicken, reminiscent of a chicken chop. This was served atop a pile of rice, and the entire thing was again drenched in tomato sauce. The chicken was tender and flavorful enough. The tomato sauce tasted very similar to the spicy tomato sauce served with the prawn casserole, and it was also much larger than the latter dish (more rice too!). Also, I also felt that any subtleties the almond and olive might have imparted to the rice was overwhelmed again by the tomato sauce. It got cloying after a while, but this dish is good if you're either hungry or sharing with someone else.
Seafood Linguine With Laksa Pesto was the last main we ordered. This was quite good, and the laksa pesto was highly reminiscent of - you guessed it, laksa. Taste wise, of course. Ironically, we were within sight of a Katong Laksa outlet right across the street, a few doors down. For those who like the taste of laksa but don't fancy being confronted by a bowl brimming with laksa gravy (full of fattening coconut milk), this is definitely for you. It really was quite good, and a decent rendition of this fusion dish. The combination was first popularised at Wild Rocket, I believe. Don't expect an eye-opener, though. The seafood was, again, fresh. No complaints at all.
Desserts:
Granny Smith & Aloe Vera Crumble was rather average, in my opinion. Others might disagree, but I'm a huge apple crumble fan, and I like my apple crumble piping hot with sweet caramelized apples. This appeals to some because it isn't that sweet, but if you don't like your apple crumble sweet, you have no business ordering apple crumble at all! Anyway, I suppose this was adequate, in my opinion, but didn't really hit the spot for me. The aloe vera added an amusing accent, but the crumbs which was supposed to be the crumble simply wasn't satisfying to bite on.
The chocolate pudding was made up of a rather dense mousse that went rather well with the walnut brownie and chocolate pearls which made up the rest of this dessert. The contrasting textures were interesting. It wasn't that chocolatey, though, which made the dense mousse slightly cloying. I would have preferred it to be more chocolatey, contrary to the menu's assertion that this is for chocolate lovers.
Drinks:
These are worth a mention because mykii serves granitas! A granita is is a semi-frozen dessert of sugar, water, and flavorings originally from Sicily. The granitas at mykii are really quite good. The lemonie crush granita was very refreshing on the palate, and would probably be great on a hot afternoon. I liked the strawberry and yoghurt granita more, however. I can't remember the exact name, but this is sweeter than the lemonie crush granita, and the strawberry taste, while slightly synthetic, is still lovely. The granitas are rather slushy, with little chunks of ice providing a grainy texture. I personally prefer my granitas with a more sorbet-like consistency, but these are still quite good, so be sure to give them a try!
Will probably return, but I ordered way too much this time. Might skip the appetisers, but fairly reasonable for a casual meal. I also found the quirky french music in the background quite amusing.Must Tries

Disappointing reservation even before dining at restaurant
May 12, 2009I placed a reservation for 20 people with Mykii and have told Winnie that I will confirm the exact amount as soon as possible for a weekend.
However I suddenly hear from her that she mentioned that her another colleague had taken a reservation for 50 people and does not honour my reservation. She recommended that I shift our timing despite confirming with me early that there is no problem.
It also takes me around 3 days for me to hear from her to confirm the outing as the matter could not be confirmed by the manager and it's hard to reach her at the outlet.
I decided to give this outlet a skip to prevent any disappointment in future.

Granny smith and aloe vera crumble
Mar 5, 2010Mykii , pronounced as ” Mee Kai” derived from ”Mykonos” and sky – the 2 recognised symbols for ” ultimate ”chill out. At Mykii, it is a short getaway from daily( gruelling ) routine with the new classic cuisine that has brilliantly put together using perfect marriages of flavours and fusion of taste around the world. The food in Mykii is healthy and low-fat, definately guilt-free. The decor of Mykii is clean and simple. They used the colour blue to represent themselves as purity. Music is played in the restaurant, providing a relaxing ambience. The menu features cuisines from different cultures, basically they are fusion cuisines. There are set lunches from $13.80 ++ but I decided to go ala-carte instead. I requested for the Spaghetti to be changed to Fettuccine. The cubes of beetroots are flavoured with green curry pasta thus it is not sweet but spicy! The fecttucine is smooth and al-dente. The huge portobello mushroom is infused and cooked with lots of minced garlic. I love garlic so this is good ! and the mushroom is well-flavoured. The fettuccine turned pinkish red as it had been ”dyed” by the cubes of beetroots. This pasta is very healthy and not heavy at all. There are desserts displayed at the counter as well but i decided to order from the menu which serves something different. I had the refreshing Granny Smith & Aloe Vera Crumble. The dessert is served in a cup, with lots of diced granny smith green apples and aloe vera, nice buttery crumbles and topped with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream. Indeed, it was refreshing, green apples & aloe vera are healthy stuffs! I love the buttery crumbles which are irresistible! They goes well with the vanilla ice-cream and it taste a little buttery and saltish … addictive! I would definately come back for this dessert alone! The service here is friendly. There is a 1 for 1 promotion for the desserts on Monday so perhaps I would bring along a friend here on Mondays to enjoy the Crumble!Must Tries

Unpricey set lunch - delicious lunch!
Mar 3, 2010The ambience in this bistro is lovely - bright, white, pleasant blue - it really helps one to relax.
I've been here 3 times before for the set lunch priced at $13.90++, and it's always been worth the money.
Their soups are great, and portions for mains vary from tummy-filling to tummy-bursting.
I especially like their desserts -- even though the portion seems small, it's terribly delicious and after a heavy main (i've had the Forest of Mushrooms pasta, dory fillet), one would appreciate dessert being a light affair. Coffee is always great - freshly made illy kawfee. Perfect way to end the meal.
This is a place I'll definitely head to more than once, twice, thrice. =)I also recommend this place for

a pleasant experience
Jan 30, 2010went there last night for dessert, it was a wonderful experience. nice decor, love the blue and white color scheme. excellent service, we were served promptly after we got our table. we ordered granny smith and aloe vera and the lava. i especially love the granny smith and aloe vera. you can taste pieces of granny smith and aloe vera, a good contrast between the 2 texture. my friends ordered the lava, they like it so much they ordered it twice. chocolate ooze out and flow over the strawberries/ marshmallow underneath, definitely a must for chocoholics. for the icing on the cake, order a pot of tea to go with dessert. you can choose from their selection of tea.Must Tries

The Latest Fad At Holland Village
Jan 22, 2010I have been to Mykii several times since its opening and I have noticed how this place is slowly beginning to become the latest fad in Holland Village. Most of the visitors fall in love with its white-washed surroundings which takes one out of the hustle of life momentarily. Moreover, it does help that the music that they play is really soothing. On a stressful day, I recommend starting out with the Lemonie Crush ($8.80), which is a refreshing crushed ice with strong lemon flavour.
Down to the food, I have tried the majority of the items on the menu but the two that stick out to me is the Seafood Linguine with Laksa Pesto ($15.80) and the Pan Seared Cod ($24.80). I generally shun away from fusion food, but I really like the rendition of the laksa pesto here, which is strong in laksa paste, not over spiced and is a reduction from the more soupier version. As for the Pan Seared Cod, it has a nice and bouncy feel with each bite with a nice fatty finish.
But the draw of this place is its desserts. I really like the freshly baked variety of desserts by their in-house baker, which comes in good portion too, but the draw for me would be the Granny Smith & Aloe Vera Crumble ($9.80) which is served in a long glass with most of the goodness at the bottom.
Overall, a well executed establishment and I am hence not surprised at its ability to draw and retain the crowds.

A long overdue review
Dec 17, 2009This review is long overdue because I visited Mykii sometime late April/ early May but have not given them the review that (I think) they rightly deserve. The reason is because....I have photos to upload but was just too lazy to get them on! Haha...so anyways, here goes.
We decided on Mykii to have a belated birthday celebration and after visiting their website and reading some reviews, we were quite sold. The meeting was after dinner for desserts and drinks. Essentially, we ordered everything on the dessert menu to try, plus 2 macaroons. We also had a raspberry-topped cheesecake (which now does not seem to be on their menu online).
You can check out how the desserts look from the pictures. For drinks, I think most of us ordered tea which came in nice pots.
What really impressed me about Mykii was, aside from the desserts (which I will go into shortly), the service. Most of us were late and the place closes at 1130pm but because we were late, they obviously could not close on time. But I must really commend them for being patient with us and not wincing even when people showed up past 11pm. Some places you go, you can see the staff looking visibly unhappy with latecomers because they are anxious to clean up and go off. And what really made the visit memorable was how they bothered to serve a complimentary cake as a birthday treat. I thought that was a really lovely touch :) Places like Mykii make you feel special on what is meant to be a special day!
Ok...now into the food review proper....The Granny Smith and Aloe Vera Crumble is a winner! I am not much for apple crumble but I must say Mykii does it with panache. Really lovely presentation and the taste is great. Chocolate Pudding was ok for me. Fans of dark chocolate would be more enamoured by it. I must say I felt it tasted odd because of they do use quite alot of dark chocolate whereas I am more of a milk chocolate person.
Gula Melaka Creme Brulee was reasonably well done with an Asian twist. But I still prefer traditional creme brulee where you can see the lovely burnt sugary top. Mango and Vanilla Custard Trifle was, to be honest, not terribly memorable and hence I can't comment much.
To be fair, I can't give a detailed commentary on the desserts because it's been quite long ago and the memory of the food has faded somewhat.
Overall, the beautifully decorated interior (really has that Greek holiday feel), the combination of the desserts and the tea and the wonderful service makes Mykii a great hangout location. Suffice to say however that Mykii will be a place that I will be visiting again!Must Tries

Happy 20th birthday dinner :D
Dec 16, 2009For my 20th Birthday, I decided to celebrate have my dinner with my friends at this place that was featured at this website.
My friends and I loved the white-coloured facade, Mediterranean-style, which was very classy and unique. We even took pictures outside the restuarant. Hehe.. ^^
Upon entering, there wasn't many customers and it was peaceful, the ambience was nice and comfortable. The interior was also in white, gives us a homely feeling too.
My friends and I took quite sometime to settle on our food as we thought that the menu was a bit chim for us to read as it was mostly filled with words, accompanied by few pictures for us as reference, perhaps the management can improve by adding a few more pictures of the food, so we would not have to crack out brain so much over what to choose. Haha..
For mains, we ordered:
Seafood linguine with laksa pesto- it was not bad.
Fettuccine Aglio Oilio(chicken) X2- portion was not very big, but it filled my friends' stomachs
Pot roasted chicken rice- big portion, tastes yummy!
Penne with ground pork sausage- sauce was creamy and nice, the pork sausage tasted somehow like meatball.
The 5 of us ordered as a set, which comes with a soup and a drink.
After filling our stomachs with the main courses, we proceeded to order the desserts, which we, girls went gaga over, even though the choices wasn't many as some were not avail.
Desserts ordered:
The Lava- Love the "exploded" chocolate, comes with fruits.
It was a nice place for friends to chit chat and chill. Great service and I enjoyed my meal there. The price was reasonable and they even calculated how much to pay per head, how cute! :D
Saved the trouble for us to divide the amount by oursevles! ^^Must Tries

Delighting...
Dec 16, 2009My friend decided on this restaurant after having read some positive reviews here. Well, it was a good choice.
The white-washed restaurant with amber lighting were soothing to one, with an enjoyable string of (mainly French) songs playing in the background which I personally like very much. Though the restaurant was almost full inside, it wasn't noisy (thank god!) like most similar-sized cafes.
We ordered the Artisan home-made bread, & the Braised Vongole & Mussel appetizers - the 'home-made' bread were a little disappointing, a tad hard for me to enjoy. Maybe that's how Artisans make their bread, I'm not quite sure myself. I prefer my bread warm & fluffy. Notheless, being suckers for bread & butter, it didn't take us long to finish them.
The braised vongole & mussel is an interesting dish. Perhaps it's the rain, it was perfect for the chilly weather with its sour & hot (warm) soup that came with it. It's a little too salty for me. We both can't help thinking of salted vegetable duck soup at this time.
The waitress recommended the Pan-seared cod while my friend had the BBQ Baby back rib for main. I was pleased with my cod - slightly crispy on the outside, juciy & tender white flesh which goes very well with the basil pesto dressing. It was lovely. My friend's back rib was decent, not too dry thought I thought the BBQ sauce can be a little less sweet.
My friend ordered the Gula Melaka creme brulee with pineapple. It was disappointing - the caramelised slice of pineapple was abit weird with the combination. The creme brulee was kinda hard & the glazed gula melaka was over-heated.
Service level was commendable for a small establishment with a pretty young crew, however there's much more room for improvement. Our butter/bread were served without a butter knife; there was no spoon for the braised appetizer; forgot the teaspoon for my tea & one actually forgot the wine my friend ordered. When she re-ordered, the waitress (who forgot it the 1st time) served it & said "Sorry I forgot about it. I was drunk." We were wondering if that's just to crack us up to make up for the mistake. Hmmm...
Having said that, I must compliment Sean for his great service. He obviously knows his stuffs very well, was able to make recommendations & very attentive to his customers. In fact, he's the only one who noticed our empty wine glasses each time he swings by. He also waived off my friend's back rib main when she chewed a metal string outta it. This is what I called service, people. Not for the free dish but the fact that it was offered as a form of apology made the customer felt great.
Good job. I'm definitely going back to try the other dishes.Must Tries

Greece inspired haven in decor..........
Dec 15, 2009Mykii (pronounced as 'mi-kai') is an approximately 3 weeks old (at the pt of submission of this review) fusion food outlet with a Mykonos-inspired decor. Basically, it was the word 'Mykonos' that sealed my decision to check out this place. After all, Greece (Mykonos, Santorini, etc) is one of the top few countries in my list for travels (soon I hope). *Grin*
I personally quite like the decor of the place and its as though I am in one of those buildings in some part of Greece I always see in travel photos. Mmmmm..
But when it comes to food, that is another story altogether...I have always been sceptical of fusion food and its not easy to get an ok from me for fusion food. As mentioned before in earlier reviews, its primarily 'cos I don't get good experiences with fusion. Anyhow, the following is what was ordered and sampled.
Pissaladiere
Opened-faced provencale tart dressed with roasted capiscums, anchovies, olives and onion jam.
Simple pastry with the onion jam that suited my palate
Tamarind Glazed Chicken with Glass Noodles, Green Papaya and Asian Herbs
This is a Thai-influenced dish. Found the chicken tender but barely found any tamarind taste. Glass noodles were bathed in the herbs and tamarind sauce which was kind of too sour for me.
Papaya and Avocado Salad
Chunks of papaya and slices of avocado served with lemongrass and lime dressing.
This a refreshing change from the usual types of salad always being served everywhere. Partly also, I like papaya and avocado, so perhaps I am biased. But then again, the lemongrass, lime and other herbs dressing did provide an Asian refreshing introduction to a salad.
Cesear Salad with Fritto Mistro
Greens with breaded seafood served in a thin bowl-like pastry.
Did not try this dish.
Mezze Platter
Middle-eastern and European influenced dish with 3 different dips, Garlic, Salmon and Chickpeas(I think).
I personally like both the garlic (definitely not for ppl who don't like garlic, even though its not very garlicky strong) and salmon dips. :)
Seafood Linguine with Laksa Pesto
I was very sceptical about this dish really since I have had horrid (to me at least) ones elsewhere. But when I pinched a little from the others, I was really surprised. The linguine was al dente and done up in a somewhat aglio olio style, yet able to retain that concentrate of rich laksa taste.
Deep fried Goby Fish with Sticky Plum & Ginger Sauce
Only pinched a teeny bit, and not really enough to make much comments.
BBQ Baby Back Ribs with Roasted Pumpkin and Cabbage Mash
Only pinched the cabbage mash which is actually a mix of cabbage and potatoes mash. I liked it as it had that mix of slight crunch and good mash and of cos, the buttery taste that I so love. :)
Penne with Ground Pork Sausage Meat
(my choice of main) Its essentially tomato-based penne with slices of mushroom and cut-up pieces of sausage meat. Generally alright. Not as sour as I was worried about, just rich in tomato taste.
Pot Roasted Chicken With Almond and Olive Pilaf
Did not try this dish.
Granny Smith and Aloe Vera Crumble
Served with vanilla ice-cream, this item did not sit well with me. Found the combination bit weird but on its own, the crumble was not that bad. The ice-cream was yummy too.
Gula Melaka Crème Brûlée with Pineapple
I purposely ordered this item as its seemed interesting. After all, I do like gula melaka and so I had high expectations for this dessert. Sadly, it failed me. :( The crème brûlée turned out to be more pudding like than being creamy and the gula melaka taste just wasn't enough. At least, to me, barely there at all. Gula melaka lovers love gula melaka for its wonderful fragrance and taste so if a dessert is done such that its barely even there, then what gula melaka dessert is it then? Also, the pineapple (from canned pineapple?) on top did not really bind well with the crème brûlée.
Assorted Desserts from the Dessert Counter
Everyone went nuts with the assortment of desserts displayed at the dessert counter. Servings of macaroons (various flavours) and cakes and tarts were served. Out of the many flavours of macaroons, I only pinched the Passionfruit and Salted Caramel flavours. Well, I am no expert but I do like the versions here. The fillings are thick and dense and envelope the mouth with the flavours. Although it does get bit heavy after a while. Also pinched a bit of the blueberry mousse cake. Its a dark choc base topped with blueberry mousse and its turned out to be a nice combination. :)
Mykii Signature Granitas - Bee Stung
Essentially a Strawberry Yoghurt drink. :)
Mykii Signature Granitas - Lemonie Crush
Lemon drink infused with crushed mint leaves. Kinda close to the version at P&P but I think I prefer the P&P version more. MN, u really should try the version at P&P.
Towards the end of my meal, I had a house white and subsequently a Rose (pronounced as 'ho-say', ala french) (World's first rose boutique beer, created from raspberries and wheat). The white (altho I have no idea wat wine was it) was not too bad. The beer was well, very fruity and tasted more like sparkling fruit juice than beer. :P
The drinks menu consists of diverse options for beverages. Ranging from juices, granitas, smoothies, mocktails, usual coffee options, boutique beers (mainly belgium beers) to teas (e.g., sakura - cherry blossoms and green tea).
Overall, it was not too bad a dining experience and in this case, the dining companions and decor counted for a lot. Service was a tad raw but then again, majority of the service staff are just soooo young (part time jobs). One of whom we had the opportunity to ask, was only 16. But I do give kudos to them for putting in the effort in providing service not just to my table but to all others in the cafe. Oh, I LOVE the music. Understood that its a compilation of songs heard and recorded by the owner during her travels. I LOVE the jazzy and other genres of the compilation. Mmmmm.

A disappointment
Dec 8, 2009Having heard much about Mykii, I decided to check out the new restaurant. Located at the old Marmalade Pantry at Holland V, Mykii was extremely quiet on a Sunday night. In fact my friend and I were the only customers that night having mains. We went in a little wary coz there was nobody around, and it was only till later that some groups came in for desserts.
Mykii's white-washed stone walls and blue sofa reminds me of Mama mia (the movie) in Greece. The Mediterranean style was pretty unique and I believe it would be a much prettier scene if there were more people.
For starters, we had Escargots with Portobello mushrooms. It came in 6 portions and it was pretty yummy. Served with rocket leaves with some sauce (sorry, am not fantastic at details like these) and bread crumbs, this was easily the best dish of the night.
I had the Prawn Casserole as it was one of the Specialties in hgw (but ironically, not one of the specialties in the menu) and it was nothing to shout about. 3 prawns, some mushrooms, tomatoes, eggplant (which I didn't touch) in a mash of rice and (supposedly) spicy tomato sauce. I didn't think it was good at all.
My friend had the Seafood Linguine with Laksa Pesto which wasn't too bad! Except he said that he couldn't really taste the Pesto. I tried the gravy and it was quite gao. I believe that all laksas should be very gao! Coconut taste is extremely important to me! It came with prawns, mussels, fishcake etc. Not too bad I suppose.
We didn't try out the desserts (though Mykii is supposedly famous for them) because the mains we had didn't live up to expectations. Overall it wasn't a fantastic experience. Am disappointed.

Pleasant!
Nov 30, 2009Have been drinking just next door of this place for over a year now, but never once dropped by to take a look, probably because the stairs leading up to the restaurant and the view walking past, with its white facade and soft lights making the place look "expensive". It was the wife who said it caught her attention.
For a Thursday, the start of a long weekend, i was pleasantly surprised by the small crowd. Good, then my ears can take a rest while i try out the food. Seated indoors, we weren't really hungry (or at least i wasn't - my digestive system's giving me problems again), we were provided with a rather comprehensive menu, and we noticed the prices were reasonable. We picked out the following:
1. Wild Mushrooms in Backyard Greens
2. Penne with Ground Pork Meatballs
3. Purple Rain
The food was delicious, and the Purple Rain refreshing. Pity we were not hungry enough to try the desserts, but we saw 2 ladies seated outside walking in to the counter to check out the cakes, so we'll probably do the same next time.
We only spent less than 1 hour there, but were sufficiently impressed by the layout, the food and the service to ask whether they take group reservations for Christmas dinners. Looks like we'll be back very soon....I also recommend this place for
