Absolutely Horrible Experience!

I don't usually write reviews but my experience at this restaurant was so awful that I feel compelled to say something so that nobody ever needs to go through what I did.

First of all, this is a really expensive restaurant. Its about $200 per head for dinner. Therefore I expect a certain level of service and quality of food.

Let me start on the service. The waitresses have no idea what is on the menu. They are not even able to explain what is on the kaiseki menu. Instead she gives us a sheet, just one, although there are 5 of us on the table. And of course no explanation of the course. For a $140 set menu, I expect the restaurant staff to be able to explain the courses by memory. And when I asked if I could make certain changes to my course, the waitress went to check and never got back to me.

Now lets move on to the food. I had the wagyu tepanyaki beef course. The chawanmushi that came with it in all fairness was really good. But the beef came only warm. It wasn't even hot! I know I ordered it medium rare but thats no excuse! And when we asked for it to be changed, it was better but not by a significant amount. And the flavour was not great either. Once again for that price I expect it to be better.

So obviously this was the last straw so we asked to see the manager. Since we obviously looked annoyed, I expected him to attend to us immediately but of course we had to ask the waitress to call him over twice! He came to apologise but by then my birthday dinner had been ruined.

Sure they gave us some vouchers as an apology but I would rather they not screw up my meal.

So to anyone considering this place, don't bother! Its a disgrace!

Good food with a large price tag to go along

I have some shang vouchers to use and browse through the shang website to see which restaurant to go to. Given HGW reviews/estimated pricing for each restaurant, I realise that it is impossible to have a relatively "cheap" meal at shang.

However, the average price for Nadaman is about 50 per pax for lunch. Hence, my hub and I decided to venture to this restaurant.

The first flip of the menu nearly choke me. The dinner sets are on average of 120 per set! OMG. It's a killer! The lunch menu is 1 page away and cost like 50 per set. Phew.

We ordered the Tepanyaki set. It is a good thing that they can send the tepanyaki food to your table and you need not sit in front of the hot stove.

I have the seafood set and it is good! The chawamushi is just normal and the salad is quite nice. The seafood set has a small cod fish, a medium sized prawn and a scallop. It is sauteed in butter I think. It is really good. The sauce is not overpowering the food and it complements very well. I can taste the freshness of the prawns and scallop. The fish is sweet and yums!

My Hub had the salmon fillet. Probably I don't like the taste of salmon cooked in that way. It is a little fishy for my liking. I prefer my seafood set.

Next is the meat dish. We had beef which comes with vege, bean sprout and mushroom. The beef is not marinated but it comes with a dipping sauce. Not bad but not fantastic. I prefer the seafood.

The meal comes with a very ordinary vanilla ice-cream. Try to change it if possible. It is really very boring.

Ambience - Quite nice. Relatively quiet. However, due to the tepanyaki, which is a distance away, the place smells just a little of food.

Service - They are really friendly, nice and polite when they get to you. But! That's provided that you can get their attention. For some strange reason, we are unable to get their attention whenever we needed something. We wanted our rice to be serve with the food but I was unable to get them for a really long time. Of course, when they get to me, my anger is all gone as they are really polite.

I think that the lunch is a good deal. It is actually alot of food. The dinner menu seems to be too much to pay for.

Food is ok..for the price..but professionalism....hmmm..

Just went for the teppanyaki lunch with my hubby after reading the good review here. Conclusion is: for the price we paid (about $60 per head), value for the food is there..but as for professionalism, can you imagine the cook walked away for 10 mins leaving the half-cooked fried rice on the frying pan?

Plates were not cleared when the next dish was served. Complimentary carpark ticket was expired.

Good food but is it worth the price?

Having accumulated over $60 worth of Shang Dollars, decided to pop in to Nadaman to have dinner on a Friday evening. Not that $60 will buy a lot at this place but butter use it before expiry in Sept... wonder if I saved $60 or spent $220...i digress.

Food...
Eel Course $120 - Comes with chawanmushi, small sashimi, pickled dish, a simple starter, unagi, a clear broth, and rice. Sashimi fresh but nothing to shout about. Unagi is good quality stuff and properly prepared. The clear soup is a delight.

Tokusen Chirashi $80 - rather small for the price but the star of the dish is the uni which is creamy and super fresh. My partner didn't think this is worth the $$$ portion being rather small and tuna not very fresh. Could have come with better fish as well...uni being the most expensive thing in it.

Hamo Dobinmushi $28 - Matsutake mushroom with conger eel in teapot. A delightful soup that in my opinion the only dish I can say well worth the price.

Green Tea $10 - ouch! but it is a nice tea.

Total damage $280, my Shang dollars covered $62 still I can't say it is a meal well worth the money...

Service is solid and efficiently Shang. Ambience is tended towards a traditional Japanese decor but the ventilation is terrible for a restaurant of this status. The tepanyaki smell is all over the dining room and the aircon doesn't seem to work well enough when the tepanyaki side fills the place up with heat and smell. I wasn't sweating like Brotzeit but the discomfort is certainly there. Which is a shame really because, that kind of ruin it a bit and I have been to tenpan restaurants with much better ventilation and paid much less...

Excellent Japanese Food

Can't help going having Japanese foods, here is Nadaman.
It has good ambience such as a traditional Japanese restaurant and good Japanese foods, which are slightly tasted by bonito and soy sauce. Apparently diffrent from Singapore foods. If you want to enjoy authentic Japanese foods, you should order mini-kaiseki. It has some small dishes, sesami tofu, sashimi, baked fish, bonito soup with fish ball, rich rice including seasonal ingredients and so on. It is not as expensive as and more comfortable than you expect.

You will definitely have special lunch or dinner there!

Must Tries: mini-kaiseki
