Great food, nice to hang out around the bar counter area.

Napoleon at Telok Ayer is a dark and cosy place to chill out after work and grab a delicious bite if you don’t mind hanging out at the bar and the occasional raucous celebrations happening in the same space (unfortunately happened the time we were there).

The Mini Parma Ham Mini Croque Monsieur (4 pieces) is a steal at $9. The hot crusty toast coupled with the oozing cheese and savory meat, makes a wonderful treat for the palette. It makes substantial meal for one.

If you like cheese, their cheese platter $26 makes a great sharing platter with a mix of brie, comte, manchego, blue cheese, saint-nectaire.

The Chopped Angus Beef Tenderloin Tartare $28 was fresh and I liked the sashimi-like texture of the meat (similar to tuna). Mixed with light mustard sauce, egg yolk, onions & capers it makes for a rather luxurious dish. It is easy to overpower the dish with too much seasoning, but in this case I thought it the seasonings was a tad timid. Still, a great dish that I would come back for.

Terrible experience, wasted our time and money: - buratta cheese was not fresh, needed to send it back to the kitchen - fois gras was partially oxidized since not fresh enough - black pepper was spoilt due to humidity, not even changed by the staff - truffle pasta was too oily, felt sick the all night - very poor service, unprofessional, with staff not even changing the cutlery from one plate to the next - atmosphere not nice as the restaurant is too small with badly managed AC, staff was not even able to fix it - finally and fortunately the wine was good Never again, it smells bankruptcy!

Decided to provide a review to do some justice after reading through all the negative reviews.

Went for the Valentine's day menu for 2.

Ingredients used were all super fresh!

Starters, Duo of Seafood was superbly supreme. This dish is pretty raw and may turn off non-sushi lovers. But otherwise, this is definitely out of this world delicious! Must Try!

Mains, Grilled Salmon, despite it's thickness, was so perfectly done, unlike those dry ones from almost anywhere else. The Angus Beef Tenderloin was amazing, thick, but soft and juicy. However, the sauce on the beef may be a bit too heavy/strong.

For dessert, my date chose the Chocolate Ganache while I chose the Apple crumble. My date commented that too much cinnamon was added to the apple crumble. The crumble was also not really crunchy. But otherwise, both desserts tasted excellent!

Ambience is zen-like and classy but would prefer the place to be brighter for better photos haha.

Service was excellent. Free flow of warm or cold water is always appreciated with attentive staff who are quick to clear dishes and refill water with smiles on their faces.

Definitely must try the Seared Tuna, Grilled Salmon & Chocolate Ganache.
